I was also able to download the NewsGator sample code for using their API, and using that application:
http://www.newsgator.com/ngs/api/default.aspx
I was able to load the the list of Locations from my NewsGator account, so clearly the firewall is not getting in the way of NewsGator SOAP API calls...
I also didn't have to do anything to configure the proxy/firewall setting in that sample application...

Bump.
Several days later and no response to my support email or latest posts to this thread... I still can not use FD2.0 at all.

I've also been having significant difficulty getting FeedDemon to work through a proxy. In an effort to debug what's going on, I've started using a program called Paros to sit between FeedDemon and my company's proxy server, to record the requests and responses going back and forth. To my significant surprise, with Paros in the middle of the communication, FeedDemon connects just fine. When FeedDemon is configured to connect to the proxy directly, it's unable to connect at all. I'm using Paros 3.2.0 Alpha (from http://www.parosproxy.org/ ). To make it work, just set the proxy in FeedDemon to "localhost", port 8080, and put your real proxy settings in Paros (under Options - Connection). As an aside, FeedStation always connected fine, with or without Paros. FeedDemon was always unable to connect at all, except during the part of the activation where IE is embedded. grahams: I'd be interested to know if this workaround also works for your situation.

JohnT -
I installed Paros here at work today and had the exact same experience you had, when Paros is sitting between FeedDemon and my work's proxy server, FD2.0 works like a champ..
Leads me to believe that FD could be fixed to play nicely with work's proxy server.

We're still not sure why Paros in the middle would fix this, so we were wondering if you could send output from a sample run through Paros to us? Email it to support@newsgator.com.

Jack,
I'm out of the office this week, but will send a Paros log to you as soon as I get back to the office.
Regards, John
