I used to be able to search on partial words in the search box. But it seems that NetNewsWire now only looks for complete words. For example searching for "sci" does not match "science". I used to just type a few letters on what I was searching for until it appeared in the list and then click it. Having to type complete words takes more time and misses some abbreviations and CamelCase words stuck together. I've also noticed that searching is about 10 ~ 100x slower, but assume this is to debug code in the betas.
I've not tested this yet in the 3.0 release because of the smart list issue and having a few dozen (probably 50~60) smart lists, but see the problem in 3.0b1.
A work-a-round is to type an asterisk "*" before and after any search.

Search in NNW 3.0 now uses Spotlight - it does not use internal code, so it should work the same as Spotlight. Hoever, it doesn't look like it is. Bug Submitted (94386)

Hi,
Is there any update on this - due to be fixed, or live with the asterisks? If it's the latter, I suppose I'll cope.
Thanks,
David
p.s. I'm relatively new to this RSS game - I don't know if I (or NetNewsWire) have overlooked something: I'm trying to get a Smart List to search only within a specific folder (in which I have feeds from academic journals) is this possible/is there a sensible work-around if it isn't. Thanks again.

davidmccormick (7/3/2007) I'm trying to get a Smart List to search only within a specific folder (in which I have feeds from academic journals) is this possible/is there a sensible work-around if it isn't.
Try using the Group Name condition. For example, if your group name is Academic Journals use Group Name is Academic Journals in the Smart List.

Searching has changed in the 3.0.1 betas - It no longer uses Spotlight, we've gone back to the way it worked in 2.1.1 - try downloading the latest beta.
