| Just out of curiosity, why don't folders with no unread items disappear as they are emptied. To make them disappear I have to de-select the option and re-select it again.

They used to disappear when marking a page would automatically move to the next feed - however we had too many people complain that they didn't like it moving to the next feed, so we took that feature out.
Now, the feed is still selected after everything is marked as read, so we can't have it disappear from the folder tree while it is selected in the reader pane. The JavaScript to remove the feed from the tree after you move to a new feed didn't work correctly in some browsers, so we removed that as well.
We are hoping to bring the feature back in the future.

What about going back to the first page after login when it disappears? Don't understand why people didn't like it going to the next set of feeds though. Maybe I'm missing something - you can always click somewhere else

The biggest problem was for people who have it set to automatically mark posts as read as soon as they appear on the screen. Automatically going to another folder caused them a lot of problems by marking posts read that they didn't want to read right then.
