I like the new Combined View in 3.0. Great idea, but what a really half-assed implementation folks...
Current problems:
* You can't use the keyboard to interact with the combined view, except for Pg Up and Pg Dn. Items can't be selected, you can't interact with the caret to view the full description and you can't scroll down the list of items using your down or up keys.
* You can not open the full description of an item without clicking on that teeny tiny caret. No right arrow like the Finder, no keyboard shortcut, nothing.
* There is no contextual menu for the combined view.
* The only way to see all items expanded is if you have layout set to "Show Summaries Below Title" and then only for unread items. You can not expand or collapse the list.
* Many if not nearly all feeds have only description elements, few feeds have summaries. It sucks to be penalized in Combined View if the feed source didn't have enough sense to include a summary. Descriptions should be used in place of summaries if no summary was supplied. At the very least a tag stripped, length limited version of the description could be used.
* Combined view is agonizingly slow for large feeds. It's perfectly responsive for a 150 item feed, but let a large feed or feed aggregation build up over a few weeks to over a thousand feeds or more and it can take over 30 seconds to display a feed. 30 Seconds! My layman's guess is that the Combined View stupidly tries to render all of the items instead of only rendering what is displayed in the viewport. Not sure, but I find it ridiculous. Enough that I just can't use the Combined View. Even after trying to set feeds to only a week or two, it's still slow, very slow!

| I use Combined View with the Tyger theme. My usual practice, with the previous versions, has been to skim feeds and move by pressing the space bar or clicking the Next Unread button. Since moving to the 3.0 Beta, I have noticed that posts with embedded videos make this impossible. When I get to a post with an embedded video and press the space bar, the application will not move to the next feed for an unacceptably long time, regardless of my action. The only thing that occasionally seems to defeat this is to double-click on the title of the post I want to read, which has the unfortunate side effect of opening the HTML representation of the post in a new tab. That's not what I want. If I read enough of the text of a post to decide I'm done, I just want a single action to show me the next post in the same reading pane, right away. That's how it used to work and I hope you make it do so again before final release.

Do you have a PPC or intel machine? it sounds like you could be experiencing the same thing that is happening in this thread.
