| Now that more and more URLs are using slugs and suchlike, it would be great if NNW could TinyURL-ify (or one of the alternatives) news item URLs, before posting them to Twitterific. There are free "system service" scripts (http://www.riverdark.net/board/index.php?showtopic=344) and applescripts available to do this, so it would be relatively trivial to integrate as an option.

It's a good idea -- but I think that Twitterrific should do it, actually.
NetNewsWire sends the URL and title, and Twitterrific adds the "Reading..." part. It's up to Twitterrific to do any transformations -- NetNewsWire just sends info about the current news item.
(I'm sure you'll find that the Twitterrific folks are good about feature requests.)
