Last week I began to explore how our feed could present multiple digital media files (mp3, really) in an RSS feed item. If you'll permit me to meander a bit...
RSS 2.0 allows one "enclosure" element, which led me to the Media RSS extension to RSS. That spec provides for multiple *content* elements (grouped or not) but so far as I can tell, only Firefox knows how to display them: FD acts as though they're not there, Google's Reader rebels by dissing the whole *item*, and Safari shows only the first content item. I figure there's little point in even testing IE.
So then I thought, let's check Atom--maybe that's a better spec. Sure enough, Atom uses a *link*-like approach to media enclosures. Firefox and Safari get it right, IE7 and FD show just one enclosure in an *entry* element, and I didn't test Google. A sample Atom feed with entries including multiple media files is:

(NB: I had a little trouble getting FD to show me all *entry* items. The Update Feed function seemed to be required after the initial subscription.)
Thanks, Nick.

| I've kept my RSS2.0 and Atom test creations and will be happy to report on those scenarios for you. Fwiw, they all pass muster with Mr. Validator. ;-) As always, your willingness to attend to details like this is super cool and much appreciated!

I've installed RC1 and tested the concocted RSS 2.0 feed I made, plus the Atom feed I cited in my original post. On my XP machine, no love, I'm afraid: FD shows the first enclosure for the Atom feed, and no enclosures in the RSS 2.0 feed.
I cleared the IE cache then opened again. I also did things like unsubscribe, resubscribe.
Could it matter that this machine still has IE6 (yes, I keep one machine with it for testing purposes ;-).
Thanks, Nick.

| I just tested this again, and it looks like the problem is that only a single enclosure is retained when the feed is added to a folder that's synchronized with NewsGator. If it's added to an unsynched folder, multiple enclosures do appear correctly in the newspaper (see attached screenshot). I'll report this to our platform team and see if we can get this resolved. Thanks,
Nick Bradbury

| How do I make a particular feed *not* synchronized (meaning, how do I see a feed without the newsgator effect)? We're working on an Atom feed and must test...

Create a new folder, and deselect the "synchronise this folder with newsgator" box. Then any feed in that folder will be unsynched - you can even drag a feed from a sync folder to the unsync folder to remove it from NGO and just keep it local.
Please note that I am not actually employed by NewsGator, and my opinions should not be taken as their official stance on any matter. I'm just a happy FD user (since pre-1.0 alpha in 2003) helping out where I can.
