So, I just started asking FeedDemon to grab podcasts with FeedStation.  It's very intrusive!

First problem: It keeps telling me it can't talk to "My Podcasts."  I don't see such a folder in NewsGator.  And FeedDemon doesn't seem to be having any trouble with the synchronization activity.  Also, note the error below in the Error log of FeedStation.

Second problem: Related to #1 - All downloads fail.  "Failed - click to restart" and I have no idea which ones are failing, as there is no useful information provided in the list.

Third problem: It is incredibly intrusive.  Just do your thing.  Stop popping up to tell me your are working.

Fourth problem: Can I tell FeedDemon / FeedStation to just download anything new - rather than everything available in the podcast?  (when I set automatically "download enclosures")

First problem: It keeps telling me it can't talk to "My Podcasts." I don't see such a folder in NewsGator.

There are two options:
1) You actually have to create the folder yourself - In NewsGator Online, right click the "My Clippings" folder, click on New Folder and name it My Podcasts.
or
2) in FeedStation, click on Tools->Options->My Podcasts and uncheck "Automatically download My Podcasts" - this will only stop FS from downloading anything you send to the My Podcasts folder while you're using NewsGator Online, it will not stop podcasts from being downloaded by FD->FS.

I'm not sure what you mean by "I have no idea which ones are failing" - like you noted above, it says "failed" next to each one that failed. If you click on the failed item, the direct url of the enclosure is listed in the bottom status bar of FeedStation. Can you elaborate on this point?

Third problem: It is incredibly intrusive. Just do your thing. Stop popping up to tell me your are working.

Are you saying it is restoring after you minimize it, or are you talking about the balloons that appear over the tray icon?

Fourth problem: Can I tell FeedDemon / FeedStation to just download anything new - rather than everything available in the podcast? (when I set automatically "download enclosures")

Again to clarify - do you mean not have FS download everything when you initially subscribe to a feed? Or is it trying to download every podcast in a feed every time?

That is FeedStation trying to access your "My Podcasts" folder. In my first answer above, if you have "Automatically download from My Podcasts" checked, make sure that the credentials you have listed in the username/password field are correct and, as noted, that the "My Podcasts" folder exists in NGO under "My Clippings".

While you're in the FeedStation options dialog, down the bottom of the general tab is an option to turn off the system tray balloon notifications

FeedStation will download all enclosures on new posts that haven't been read - so if you're syncing multiple locations and download an enclosure at another location, as long as the post is marked as read FeedStation won't attempt to download it when you get home.

Please note that I am not actually employed by NewsGator, and my opinions should not be taken as their official stance on any matter. I'm just a happy FD user (since pre-1.0 alpha in 2003) helping out where I can.

Seriously?  I have to create a My Podcasts folder.  Why doesn't FS do that automagically?  I've created it and FS has stopped complaining.

I think #3 and #4 are related.  The issue has to do with my first subscription to all my podcasts.  I thought I had told FD to mark-all-as-read before I turned on the automatically-download option.  But I think the synchronization with NGOL is crummy, and FD decided that all those articles were new again.

As a result, FS wanted to pop up the application window to show me the full queue for hundreds of old podcasts.  Argh!

You have to remember that FeedStation was initially written to be an exclusive podcatcher for FeedDemon before Bradsoft was purchased by NewsGator, and the sync capability was essentially tacked on to FeedStation at that point. I don't remember the exact details any more, but IIRC, it also had something to do with being able to sync NG's Clippings and FD's News Bins (which became clippings to make naming consistent across products). In any event the upshot was that in order to let FS download podcasts from NGO, the folder had to be created manually in NGO.

But I think the synchronization with NGOL is crummy, and FD decided that all those articles were new again.

As a result, FS wanted to pop up the application window to show me the full queue for hundreds of old podcasts. Argh!

This can also happen if the feed producers monkey with the feed and do things that change the feed's unique identifiers like GUID, serial or date - since those identifiers have changed, they're seen as new items.

Thanks.  I think it is working now.  Now for some questions about NewsGator Mobile...

Not much help there - only thing "mobile" I have right now is not-quite 2 year old Verizon Wireless RAZR with a cracked screen and an occassional squeal from the speaker (although once not-quite-two-years becomes two-years, guess what's happening? )
