I am having the same problem on my HTC Advantage 7501. If I put the device into flight mode the article screen is blank.

I've got the same problem. Using Newsgator Go 2.0.0.25419 with WM6 on a T-Mobile Dash.

Here's what I'm doing:

1. Enable Wifi
2. Launch Newsgator Go
3. Sync feeds
4. Disable Wifi
5. Click on feed
6. Click on post

The problem seems intermittent, though I've been experiencing it more often recently. It still works if I don't disable the wifi (ie. am still online), though that makes the application's purpose as an offline newsreader somewhat redundant.

Previously, closing (or killing the Newsgator Go task) and relaunching it did the trick, but this doesn't always seem to work now.

A similar but possibly related annoyance is how a feed always tries to connect to the internet when it's opened (when it works in offline mode and the content actually shows up). This is particularly frustrating when you start reading a long post while the application is trying to connect, and then when it can't connect, it sends you back to the top of the post and you have to scroll down again and find where you were. This issue didn't exist in the old version (1.5).

Hi all,

Just another person confirming there is definitely a bug with Newsgator Go 2.0.0.25412 at least on WM6.

When there is no active network connection you can view you feed list, and go into the headlines list for any feed, but when you click to view the downloaded feed content the screen will just come up entirely blank!

This problem occurred at the time Newsgator Go moved across to using Pocket IE to display that actual feed content instead of it's own internal reader that was used in v1.5

So I think it's a problem with the way that Newsgator is trying to use IE as an off-line reader, hopefully it's something they can fix as otherwise they'll need to roll-back to their own reader, which I guess adds a lot more code back into the program (and why re-invent the wheel)

At the moment however it is extremely unfortunate that Newsgator Go v2 is useless as an off-line reader as you can't read anything! Unfortunately v1.5 was extremely unstable on WM6 so there's no roll-back path either I'm afraid.

Additional behaviour comments to help debug (if any Newsgator people read this):

- If no type of internet connection - Either out of signal, or Airline mode - the feed detail page will always display blank

- If a previously established connection is still present (i.e. phone still thinks it has 3G data connection) then feed will often display until that connection times out

- As described by others on slower data connections there often is a 'refresh' that happens a few seconds after you initially view a news article that blanks, and then redisplays the article having scrolled to the top...very annoying!

- With working 2G, 3G or WiFi connection apart from 'refresh' issue news items display fine.

The other (very likely related) issue I have is that when there is a mobile signal but no current data connection and I ask to sync feeds Newsgator will not try to start up a data connection like other programs such as IE, Google Maps, Snap2Face will, and so it just says 'Please check your network connection' or if I've been trying to read an item, displays a blank page.

To work around this I have to startup IE and ask it to browse to a new page (annoying if I was currently reading something in there) so it will create the connection for Newsgator to then use.

Wouldn't be surprised if this was fixed it might help with IE knowing that that it should render in offline mode if no current connectivity, or if the phone is set to Airline mode.

Same problem here.  I love the Windows Desktop reader and am happy with the look and feel of the Windows Mobile reader aside from not having the actual content there.  I would love to see this fixed.   Thanks.

Yes, I have been suffering this problem too. I have been fiddling with device settings for weeks, unwilling to believe that it could be a flaw in the product itself, since this would be a deal-breaker for many people.

This is sad: I've been evangelical about Newsgator's RSS sync model since the early days.

Perhaps it's just certain device models? Several people have mentioned they are using an HTC device. I'm using an HTC TyTN II (aka Kaiser, MDA Vario III, AT&T Tilt, etc.), running Windows Mobile 6.1

BTW isn't it a bit of a poor show that no-one from the company has posted in this thread, given that this problem emerged in May?

Hi asriel,

You're right it's pretty sad that a hot thread with this many views (and so you'd guess interest and likely common problems) has gone without even a query to help them debug it, or an acknowledgement of problem, and hence some hope that next version won't have the same issue.

I'm personally on a T-Mobile Vario II which started out life as WM5 but is now upgraded to WM6.

Love the connected sync idea, and the v2 version of the client is fully stable on WM6, unlike v1.5+ (otherwise I would have rolled back to that version as it didn't have the blank offline content problem!) but when I'm on a train journey dropping in and out of signal, or stuck in some big store I'm without my RSS feeds!!!

Noticed that generally the WM forum seems to be getting a lot less love at the moment from Newsgator, looks like most of the current development is happening on their iPhone client?

Same problem! ASUS MyPal A626 with Windows Mobile 6.0. Online (via cable or Wifi) - everything works. Offline I get article titles but no content.

However: I was browsing my SD card and discovered that the Newsgator Go folder contains a bunch of files that open in IE as html coded versions of... the missing content! So it appears that the content is downloaded and stored, but the application is not retrieving it!

Earlier in this thread, someone asked about storing content locally versus on the SD card. I haven't tried storing it locally, but if I try that and it works, I'll come back and let you know.

PS is there any way to change the name of this topic from "Content is blank" to something better like "Content not available offline" or "offline reading not working"? Maybe that would get someone's attention!

Hi all,

Some good news is that the new NewsGator mobile (and a few other clients) developer Nick has responded to say that he is looking into this as a priority issue following the departure of their previous WM developer.

Obviously sounds like he's got quite a lot on his plate, but we've made it onto a NewsGator to do list so thanks to all here that have provided info on it being a more general WM6 issue, and the read count on this thread confirms this is a much wider issue than just those that post.

lambj42: Only original poster womble might be able to change thread title, but suggest not to do that now, as I've referenced this thread title now in the main Support forum

I'll let you all know here when there's any updates to that other Support forum thread.

Thanks to all,

Alan.
