Had the same problem (see separate post) on iptouch. downloaded new app a couple of times did not help. deleted it again today (and rebooted the device) afterwards re-dld from the UK store. currently clipping seems to be working on- and off-line

(Because I know how much Brent loves "me too" posts....)

Me too!! :-)

Clippings definitely worked when I first installed the app. This past weekend, I was happily surfing, marking all the most interesting feeds for further reading on my mac, and much to my dismay, when I got home, they weren't in my clippings folder. Serious workflow fail.

I guess I'll fall back to either "don't mark as read, and hope I notice it again on the desktop", or the "email myself interesting posts" workflow until this is fixed.

I haven't reinstalled the app, but I'm guessing I'll have similar experiences to others, seeing as it used to work for me, and has stopped at some point.

Would love to see an update on where this stands, or what more we can do to help!

I don't know what the bug is -- since I still can't reproduce it. However, I do have something I could try: send clippings to the server one at a time rather than as a list. Will it do the trick? I hope so. (Otherwise, I'll think of something else to try.)

Could you also consider something along the lines of one of the following to in effect provide some visual feedback and allow us to better detect when things have started to go wrong (so we know when to do the re-install which seems to fix it).  It may also help us to track down the actions leading up to it breaking to better help you diagnose the reasons.

(1) Feedback from a sync of the number of successful clippings added to the server (could be total sent successfully, before and after count or event just the after count)

(2) Clippings visible on the iPhone and updated from the server following the sync or even after the subsequent sync.  To allow us to check that this number increases as expected.

(3) Make it so that the "expose clippings as RSS feed" option updates in real time so that we could do another sync and check that the number of items in that feed increases.  I tried to use this function for this purpose but there seems to be a delay in it updating so cannot be used for this.

(4) Cache the last x (say 25 or 50) clippings made on the iPhone and allow us to view these in some way so that even if we find that the syncing with the server has broken, we are still able to access the clippings we made on the iPhone and pull them up manually on the online client if necessary.  This isn't really a solution but reduces the impact of the bug.

Thanks for a great product.  I'm still determined to persist with NNW even despite this bug which is quite a pain at times.  I realise that you need to re-create the bug before being able to fix it but in the interim if you could look at something along the lines of the above to workaround or minimise the problem then I'm sure many of us would be quite happy to live with that, leaving you to find a fix without any time pressure.

One final thing, are any logs of any sort kept on the server side for user activity?  Just wondering whether one of us could let you know the next time things stop working and you could then investigate what is actually being sent by the Phone.  Similarly, if there is anything on the phone itself that we could check to establish whether the clippings are still present on the phone or if they are just being lost.

Thanks

hi, folks --

this sounds somewhat related to this thread, so i'm posting it here. been using netnewswire on my iphone for nearly a month now. for the first time today and part of yesterday, my clippings aren't synching to my account when i login to newsgator on my desktop.

i've tried turning my iphone on and off a few times, tried hitting the refresh button on my iphone.

odd thing is that my iphone is updating new feeds that i add to my account on my desktop.

is something up?

thanks!

My clippings stopped working a few days ago too, however this might coincide with installing Feed Demon on another PC?

Here's how my setup is/was, hopefully you can get some info and a fix out of this......

Before (with clippings working) I was running NetNewsWire on my iPhone 3G and Feed Demon on my Windows PC at work. Clipping I made on the iPhone were syncing to FD fine

Then, about a week ago I decided that I wanted Feed Demon on my PC at home too, so I installed it there. Since then my clippings don't sync at all.

This may just be a coincidence? Has anyone else done something similar and had the clippings problem since then? Just thought it might be something to do with default clippings folder locations or something like that?

I did also notice that stuff I "mark as read" on my iPhone hasn't been working that great recently too btw.

I've had the problem numerous times now and haven't changed things on my pc each time.  Some times probably not even using my pc in between it working and it stopping working.

In any case, your PC software won't have any effect as the syncing is between your phone and the server and doesn't do anything with your home/work PC.  That's essentially just a client in the same way that your phone is and I suspect that the problem is that the clippings dont make it onto the server rather than then being on the server and not making it to your PC.

In that case it's just a coincidence, and mine stopped working too.

Shame, I really used the clippings a lot when they worked.

A fix is in testing right now with the beta-testing group.
