I've been unable to determine what the option Automatic under Organize your feed in the Edit Subscription page on NewsGator online is meant to do. Can anyone give me some guidance.

That references what locations your feeds update and sync to. If you select the edit button you can configure specific feeds to go to specific locations. This can also be managed per location by going here.
