When I click on my Newsgator base folder, my browser launches to display the NewsPage. What I would prefer is what's illustrated in this screenshot...

http://www.newsgator.com/ShowImage.aspx?url=ss_newspage.gif

...where the NewsPage is displayed in the Outlook folder window.

I expect that Newsgator uses IE to display the NewsPage in Outlook. IE is on my system, however my defaut browser is NewsCaptor, a browser that uses the IE display engine.

When I view the NewsPage in NewsCaptor, the Customize button does nothing.

I really and truly don't want to make IE my default browser. Is there any other way of getting the NewsPage-in-Outlook result and still have NetCaptor as the default?

Thanks.

M.

Hi Michael,

See if the following KB article helps:

INF: NewsPage may not display article information if IE not default browser

Thanks for the reply, Greg.

OK, I've defined a new extension called ".ngt" and renamed NewsPage.htm to NewsPage.ngt. This seems to be doing the right thing!

A few thoughts...

1. You need to have "Show Folder Home Page" selected in the View menu, so that might be something to add to the KB article.

2. If, once you done this thing with the new extension, you click on Customize on the NewsPage and then selection Options/NewsPage/"Show NewsPage when base folder is selected", you get a message saying "Your news folder already has an HTML view other than the NewsGator NewsPage. Would you like to change the HTML page for this folder to be the NewsPage?"

If you say "No", you're fine. If you say "Yes", you mess up the link to "NewsPage.ngt" (or whatever extension you're using). I guess all I'm saying here is that the message is not very intuitive -- for me, anyway.

3. In the installation directory there are a couple of other files: "newspg2K.htm" and "NewsPgSF.htm". Just out curiosity, who are those guys?

Thanks.

1,2 - thanks for the feedback - you're right, it's not completely clear...

3 - newspg2k.htm is the Outlook 2000 version of the NewsPage. There are some incompatibilities, so we ship a separate version for Outlook 2000 and 2002/2003. I should probably mention this in the KB article as well, so people edit the right one!

NewspgSF.htm is a version of the NewsPage that can be used on sub-folders...see this thread for details.
