At around 10:40 this morning, feeds being retrieved from WordPress returned a permanent redirect command, sending them to the default WordPress feed.

I've experienced this myself so I'll post back once I see my subscriptions cleaned up.

Outlook Shutdown and Startup

Using Build 530 to confirm problem also seen on previous versions

Now running Windows XP SP3, but symptoms also occured with XP SP2

Running Outlook 2003, with NewsGator and the Microsoft Outlook Connector installed. All patches are current.

This does not reproduce at will, but it happens quite regulary, with it being more likely when I have updated subscriptions several times and/or added new subscriptions.

A. Start-Up Symptoms

1. Outlook reports that the NewsGator Inbox PST was not closed properly and needs to be checked. The check happens quickly and there have never been any problems found. This happens regularly but the notification can be quite fleeting.

B. Shut-Down Symptoms

1. Outlook may have shut down successfully and when the system shuts down there is no problem.

2. Sometimes, Outlook exits, but the Reminder pane remains stuck open. At shutdown, it may be necessary to force shutdown of Outlook.

3. Sometimes Outlook exits and the Reminder pane also exits. But at shutdown, Windows reports that Outlook is not closing and I end up forcing the shutdown in order to shutdown the system.

I should add that I shut down the system every night when I am done working on the computer.

Is it possible to use NewsGator Inbox within a business? The idea of a simple, easy to use, integrated RSS reader is compelling.

I've looked all over the Newsgator site and can't find anything to help me. I'd love to recommend the tool to business users here - but before I d I need to be sure there are no licensing issues.

No New Posts in my Feeds Since 9:30 EDT 5/13/08

Subject says it all. I expect to see anywhere from 20 to 50 new posts in the feeds I subscribe to when I start my day. Today there are no new posts as of 9:30 last night in Inbox and also via Newsgator Online.

Add Subscriptions Randomly Marks Items Unread

Context: I live in my NewsGator Inbox | Search Folders | Unread Mail folder. My goal every time I perform Update All Subscriptions is to scan through the resulting Unreads and (1) delete, (2) allow to be marked as read, or (3) mark for follow-up (and read). Right now I have 958 items marked for follow-up and some uncounted quantity of ones marked as followed-up.

When I add a new subscription (e.g., http://feeds.feedburner.com/typepad/newsgator/inbox done just now), there are three peculiar behaviors:

1. There is a slow painful delay while the subscription sets up.

2. There is another slow painful delay while the new subscription is synchronized.

3. When I look in my Unread Mail, there will be lots of unread mail (368 items adding the subscription from above). Some of these are items from the newly-subscribed feeds. The remainder are previously-read items that are either marked for follow-up or checked-off as followed-up that, for some reason, have been marked as unread again. This is some seemingly-random selection. For example, in the just-completed addition, there were 8 posts from Nick Harris's blog and the rest were older posts from other feeds that had all been read before.

This makes me wary of adding new subscriptions while I am reading through some unread items and the slowness of the add subscriptions process for single feeds is the other discourager.

Problems With 3.0 Beta & Outlook 2007

I have installed 3.0 beta on top of Outlook 2007, which worked OK. The problem is when I try to sync with my account. I get the following error message:

The server committed a protocol violation. Section=ResponseStatusLine

Problem adding private twitter subscription

The same symptoms were observed in the 3.0 public release.

Symptoms:

When adding a subscription to a private twitter RSS, such as
http://twitter.com/statuses/replies.rss
it is necessary to logon and provide a password (Basic authentication without a secure connection). The logon is apparently also the way the particular RSS feed is conditioned to deliver only those replies made to the account that is used for the logon. (The link to this feed is found on individual home pages under the "replies" tab, at the bottom left corner.)

Following provision of the user ID and password, NewsGator fails to reach the end of the Add Subscription process, popping up an unhandled exception message, with these details:

When trying access "friends-only" feeds from LiveJournal that require digest authentication, I get two errors. First:

Retrieval for subscription "Tracey" failed with the following error:
The remote server returned an error: (400) Bad Request.

And then:

Your subscription to "Tracey" no longer exists for this location in NewsGator Online and has been removed.

The entire reason I'm trying Newsgator is because Outlook 2007's feed service doesn't support digest authentication and Inbox supposedly does. But if it doesn't work then it's not much use to me.

Can you help??

Http access error in Outlook 2007

I get an error using 2007 when I try to setup my account (i.e. log in) that says:

"Error: The request failed with HTTP status 503: Service Unavaiable"

Other programs aren't having any issues accessing the web so I'm not sure what the issue is. Any ideas?

I installed Newsgator Inbox 2.6 for Outlook on a Windows 2000 networked profile @ work, then changed machines in the office to a Win XP machine. Unfort my profile was still open on the other machine when I logged onto the new XP Machine (the machine was having trouble logging off/shutting down that i didnt realise) so when I logged onto the XP machine i had to create new localised settings.

Now when I open Outlook, there is a folder for Newsgator Inox, but no subfolders or anything in it.

So I downloaded the NG 2.6 msi install file, but am getting an error about unavailable network feature. When i drop down the folder location box, i cannot change the file path to the .msi file.

i've posted screenshots as its easier than explaining.

3.0 final unread messages and temp files

Hi, Nick, here are a couple of interesting (but non-fatal) things going on with my home installation of Inbox 3.0 build 526 (my office install is fine.)

First, I am being prompted every day to mark unread messages as read because NG thinks I have about 10000 more unread messages than I actually do. Obviously, I can turn off the prompt but that would only mask the symptom.

Possibly related, NG's temporary file area in "c:\Documents and Settings\Jeff\Local Settings\temp\NG" has, at last count, 1885 sub-folders. (Compared to 3 on my office computer, though I have less subscriptions there.)

Not critical issues by any means, but something to think about in your copious free time. :-)

Authenticated Feed into Newsgator Outlook plugin installed in Outlook 2007

Hi,

I have installed the Newsgator Outlook plugin to retrieve an Authenticated RSS feed from an online Central Desktop workspace.

I am using the following URL:

As this requires my login details I set up the authentication to use my login details for Central Desktop. I reported this as a bug to Central Desktop thinking that it was a problem with a feed itself rather than the reader but they have been able to replicate issue across multiple feeds/accounts but have made it work fine with the Newsgator installed application and a handful of other readers.

The problem is that when Newsgator attempts to synchronise with the feed I get an error message saying:

"Retrieval for subscription "Runway Issues" failed with the following error:

The remote server returned an error: (400) Bad Request."

After this message there is another message saying that this subscription has been removed with a message saying:

"Your subscription to "Runway Issues" no longer exists for this location in NewsGator Online and has been removed."

Why is this happening and how can I fix it.

Manage Subscriptions Problem

1st day issues with Inbox 3.0

After successfully inmstalling Newsgator Inbox 3.0 with Outlook 2003 the following issues were unresolved.

* Only a few of the feeds downloaded and several tries at synchronization failed to produce more than about two-thirds of total feeds. The FeedDemon client works fine with the same feeds. It appears that synchronization bypassed the first third of my feeds and only identified the next bunch for synchronization.

* Not able to set up the blogger.com interface. Got "file not found(404)" error message. However, using Windows Live Writer, I have no problems posting to blogger http://djysrv.blogspot.com

Can't read from Jive forums

My company uses Jive Forums for some internal communication. I've tried several news feed aggregators so far and I like what I see with Inbox, but it is the one product that isn't working for me.

I use 'Add Subscriptions' > 'Advanced Options' > 'I'll enter the address of the website or feed.' I put in the address http://<<hostname>>/jive3/rss/rssmessages.jspa?forumID=2838 . Then I click the 'Preview' button. It takes a bit, but I get what looks like a good result. I close the preview, leave the 'Verify this feed before subscribing.' checkbox checked, then hit 'Next'. I add the feed to my '-- My News' folder and hit next. I then hit 'Finish' to leave the wizard. The 'Updating Subscriptions' dialog appears, but then I get an Inbox Alert.

The error is:

Retrieval for subscription "Forums: Message List - ADE Issues" failed with the following error:

The remote server returned an error: (400) Bad Request.

The informational Alert is:

Your subscription to "Forums: Message List - ADE Issues" no longer exists for this location in NewsGator Online and has been removed.

I've used various RSS plug-ins for Firefox, and Snarfer without a problem for this same RSS feed.

I've put the RSS URL into a browser and I get similar input to what I get when I did the preview above.

Any ideas on what might be going wrong?

<Edit>I forgot to mention that Inbox is working fine pulling in a "Yahoo! News - Oddly Enough" feed.</Edit>

My newsgator online seems to be up to date and fine, however I am getting tons of old feeds still listed as unread in Newsgator inbox. Please help!

Apologies in advance if this has been covered I searched on the error string but it didn't return anything, so I'm hoping this is a unique (but fixable!) problem.

Recently decided to d/l Newsgator Inbox, had to install NET 2.0 but other than that it installed like a charm, until I've come to run my first synchronise on the feeds I'd selected and it returned this message:

Exception in RetriveNews:
Unable to cast COM object of type 'System.__ComObject' to interface type 'Microsoft.Office.Intercrop.Outlook._Application'. This operation failed because the QueryInterface call on the COM component for the interface with IID '{00063001-0000-0000-C000-00000000046}' failed due to the following error: Error loading type library/DLL. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80029C4A (TYPE_E_CANTLOADLIBRARY)).

I might have overtype on some of those 0s mind you.

I'm running this on Microsoft Outlook 2002 SP3 (where does the time go) on a VAIO laptop with XP Home SP2.

I would really appreciate any help anyone could give so that I can join in with the wonderful world of RSS, finally.

Outlook crashes with Avast AntiVirus running

New install Outlook 2007/XP SP2 not working

So I've just installed Newsgator Inbox version3.0 build 526 on Outlook 2007 running on XP SP2.

Everything went without a hitch. I also have FeedDemon installed. On FeedDemon I can see all my feeds and there are thousands of unread messages b/c I just came back to my account.

My problem is Outlook. I can see all the folders, it says it's synchronizing and adding the new stories, but all my folders in the inbox are empty and nothing I have done seems to remedy this. I saw a similar problem on a Vista install, which seemed to be a bug. Do I have a bug here too or do I need to change some magical setting somewhere?

NewsGator Inbox 3.0 / Windows XP SP2 / Office 2003 - Won't start

I am running Windows XP SP2 with Office 2003. It connects to my Microsoft Exchange 2003 Server. I am trying to get NewsGator inbox running. When I install the 3.0 version, it simply won't start. You open Outlook, but it never appears. When I un-install, and reinstall 2.6.9, it will then lauch when outlook opens. of course, I can't run 2.6.9 cause it says I need a license.

So is there anyone else having this problem where the reader won't work? I read another thread where it said something about Gator is having a problem getting to hook the toolbar, but I can't make heads/tails of this. Please help!

Change location of Newsgator PST file

By default, in Vista Newsgator slaps its PST file somewhere like:

C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\

I prefer to have all my PST files somewhere else, on a different drive that I can easily backup.

Looking at the messages here, the help files and stuff, I can see no place within Newsgator Inbox where I can tell it to look somewhere else.

I know how to manage PST files in "Mail" in the Control Panel.

Searching here for "PST" finds mostly old messages that do not seem to relate to the current way of working.

Can anyone help?

Feature Request: Automatic Forum Login

Even though I was logged in to NewsGator Online, when I clicked on the help link followed by the link to the forums, I was not logged in to the forums. Featured prominently in orange on the forums page is a link saying "Newsgator Online: Sign In", but click on that took me back to the Newsgator online page, to which I was already signed in. Much less obvious was the link to login to the forums, and it was also non-obvious that signing in to NewsGator Online was not the same as signing in to the forums. Also, if I am already signed in to NewsGator Online, it is confusing to have another link at the top of the page telling me to sign in again, when clicking on it does nothing but take me back to the NewsGator Online page I was already signed in to.

It seems to me that if somebody is logged in and needs help, and the NewsGator support page suggests they visit the forums, then that login should be automatically synced with the forums. Really there should not be separate logins at all. They should be the same.

Unable to Post after upgrade

I recently upgraded after being prompted that a newer version was available.
I knew there was trouble when the service began deleting my subscriptions and refused to let me add them back
I got around that by not synchronizing those specific feeds.

But now I cannot post. This issue is not limited to the feeds I had trouble restoring. It applies to feeds that appeared normal after the upgrade.

I select a post and chose to post to selected topic. I can create my post but then get an error message when i POST.

Error Message: An unhandled exception has occured in a component in your application. Click continue and application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. Object reference not set to an instance of object.

I press continue. The error seems to relate to an inability to select the forum to post to. No forums appear in the list as they did before. Since I cannot select the forum, the post is not made.

Version: NewsGator Inbos v. 2.6.6.322 licensed and activated

Redundant To field in new feed/folder

Hi,

When I add a new subscription without NewsPage being enabled the resulting folder of the feed items contains a superfluous [b]To[/b] column. This means that when I enable the preview pane Outlook chooses to display this blank field and consequently the Subject/Headline doesn't get a look-in :(

I can get around this by removing the column and then Outlook chooses to display the [b]From[/b] field in preview pane mode as I would expect.

Not sure if I am doing anything wrong here but I am trying to move all my RSS stuff from Omea Reader to Newsgator Inbox (because I have moved to Vista). First all my feeds were working well in Omea Reader (with win xp). I exported all my feeds to an OPML-file. When importing these feeds to Newsgator about half of them was lost due to some error (usually Error from the source of the feed"). The one's I did manage to get in to the inbox refuse to update. Now I am leaning towards uninstalling the whole thing unless someone can help with some pointers here. Thanks.

BTW, I am running outlook 2007.

Option to pass cookie?

I understand why passing cookies as part of a request to an rss feed is bad (see Greg's post), but a forum that I read just blocked unauthenticated requests. So it works fine from IE (with the cookie), but not with NGI since it doesn't pass the cookie. Perhaps that's an option that could be added by feed?

Although... if anyone knows how to get vBulletin to accept some sort of credential in the URL, I could probably talk the admin into add that hack for me.

RSS Feeds Not Working from Internal Sharepoint Sites

We are currently looking at Newsgator Inbox as a potential product for our users. However, we are having a very serious problem involving internal feeds from Sharepoint servers. Everytime we try to access such a feed, we get an error saying that it is invalid. I can subscribe to the feed without having Newsgator verify it, enter my credentials (in case this is some authentication problem), and then try to update the feed. I continue to get errors.

Any advice on how to get this working? Are there any logging or tracing functions in the Newsgator software to help me determine what's happening?

V3 Build 526 very slow synchronization

Hi!
I installed the new Version of Newsgator Inbox on my Vista machine with Outlook 2007. Unfortunately, sync with Newsgator became annoyingly slow and Outlook doesn't respond during this time. Any ideas? Can I provide some logs or similar?

Articles will not go into 'sub folders'

I am using Outlook 2003 / Newsgator Inbox 3.0b522

The problem is that new posts are downloaded into the base 'News' folder instead of into the folders that I have categorized the feeds into using Newsgator Online... The folders are not even created. I have all feeds Folder settings to 'Add posts to parent folder'. But it is not putting them in the RIGHT parent folder... they should be in sub-folders of the 'base' folder...... instead all posts are put together.

Any ideas?

Hi,

First of all, I have to admit that I have a quite strange setup:

- Outlook 2003 SP3
- Newsgator Inbox v3.0 build 526 (though I have tried the official beta and it behaves the same)
- IBM Lotus Domino Access for Microsoft Outlook Release 7.0.2
- The Outlook profile was created by IBM's connector for Outlook, and I have changed the default message store for new items to a local pst folder, in order to not synchronize my Windows Mobile PDA to the Domino account, but to this local pst file (I do not want my contacts, dates, etc. on the Domino server).

The problem is that many of the posts (not all) show in the From field my Lotus Domino name. Some do show the correct From field (the subscription name).

Any idea?
