I seem to have this type of problem too:

I have Outlook 2003, connected to an Exchange2000 server, with no particular policy set concerning add-ins.
I don't experience the problem when retrieving items, but when moving them programatically (i have a "To Visit" folder, which I clean up periodically).
My News Folder goes to it's own .PST
I have a small macro that basically does:

For Each objNote In targetFolder.Items
(...)
objNote.Move savFolder
Next

Whenever it launches, I get a message saying "an application is trying to access your adress-book, allow access for" and a drop-down box, from which I can pick times (I usually select 2 minutes), It seems that there's no way to set this programatically.

okay - i forgot to mention that closing the newsgator node can trigger it every time

Hmm...that was indeed the info I asked for; you do have an Exchange server account.

That said, it doesn't help diagnose the problem. We're looking into this - it's actually been difficult to reproduce (I know, not for all of you...but it's difficult to make it happen here!). I'll post back here with more details as I have them...

It's there, but there is no versioning info.

Under "Email Accounts" there is a box, which says "Outlook processes e-mail for these accounts in the following order:" The box has two columns, "Name" and "Type." There is one item (=row) in the box, which has Name = "Microsoft Exchange Server" and Type="Exchange(Default)". It does not say what version of Exchange I am using, nor does it have any properties box I can access to find this info.

I hope this is the info you need?

Yep, Exchange is a mail server. Go to Tools/Email Accounts, select "View or change existing e-mail accounts" and click Next, and see if there is anything in the list with a Type of "Exchange".

I thought Exchange was a server side thing. How do I find out about it? Is it somewhere on my system?

Elizabeth, are you running with Exchange? If so, what version? And are you aware of any administrative policies that have been set by your network admin folks with respect to Outlook COM add-ins?

Hi, this is happening to me too. I am running:

Outlook 2003

Win XP Pro SP1

Rebooting fixes it for the first retrieve only. The next retrieve will generate the error, but not always right then. Sometimes it retrieves OK, but the error will get generated on collapse of the newsgator folder or on close of outlook.

As for the errors, it seems to generate one error per post retrieved. So once you get tired of clicking you have to answer "no" which puts newsgator in an unhappy state. At least then you can reboot and everything will be fine - once.

Rebooting seems (so far) to have cleared up that issue. I'll keep you posted if it should start again.

NewsGator does not in any way access the address book in Outlook.

This is a strange problem we've seen with a few Outlook 2003 installations, and so far it appears to only happen when using Exchange server, and then only rarely. In many cases, a reboot clears it up...but we've found a few cases where the problem persists even after that.

We're investigating why this might happen, but so far no luck...for anyone who is having this problem, it would be helpful if you posted the details of your configuration. Outlook version, OS version, and Exchange server version - thanks!

newsgator and outlooks address book?

Does Newgator attempt to access Outlook's address book for any reason?

Since installing this morning I have been getting the alert from OL that something is wanting to access the address book. OL them allows me the opportunity to give the "offending program" access to it for up to ten minutes at a time. Then 10 minutes or so later I get the alert again.

Like I said at the start, this just started today when I installed Newsgator.

Anyone else see this?

I am running Outlook 2003.
