Update to Exporting Clippings

You can actually turn your already clipped articles into an RSS feed and subscribe to it via Google Reader or any other RSS/Atom aggregator.

In order to do this follow these steps:

Sign into the Online Reader and locate the "Clippings" Folder from the list of folders on the left

Select the Clipping Folder

Scroll to the very bottom of your clipped articles and find the option to expose your clippings (See attachment)

Check the box to share your clippings

Copy the URL provided and subscribe to it via Google Reader or the application you plan on using to read aggregated feeds

You will need to add '&limit=any number' in order to get all the clippings to display (e.g. [b]http://services.newsgator.com/ngws/svc/ClippingsRSS.aspx?uid=1234&limit=50000[/b])

Side Note: if you have nested folders and want to keep your clippings organized you will need to do steps 2-6 for each.

[b]IMPORTANT NOTICE: keep in mind you will have to manually move these articles AKA clippings to shared items, star the article, tag them or whatever feature is available with your chosen RSS reader because after the 31st the clipping feeds will no longer be available, thus the URL used to turn clippings into a feed will NO longer be accessible.[/b]

Problem Logging into Newsgator Online

As the title indicates, I have been having problems trying to log into Newsgator. WHen I log in, I get an error and am asked for my Datawire. I get an Invalid username and password. They are not invalid, I have gotten them emailed from Newsgator. Guidance?

I turned off sync on NetNewsWire a few weeks back. Today, for reasons I can't discern, NNW wiped my RSS subs. Crap.

Question: is it still possible to export OMPL files from a Newsgator account?

Due to a synchronization almost all my clippings moved to Newsgator Online, so i cannot make a backup from FeedDemon. Newsgator is to close 31 august. How can I export or backup up my clippings at Newsgator?

two questions - iphone web UI and an app question

question #1: i used to use m.newsgator.com/iPhone.aspx and view it in my iphone and loved the simplicity of it. however, now that i've switched to feeddemon 3.0 on my desktop and converted all my feeds over to google reader, it seems to no longer sync. all my feeds are continuously growing and never being marked as read/etc. then i decided to try reader.google.com and i -hate- that iphone interface. talk about overkill and annoying. and i can't move things to clippings, i can only star them? (maybe that translates to default clippings folder? i don't know...) - is there a newsgator UI that works with this now or do we have to point to the google one for web access?

question #2: inside of feeddemon the minute i left or right click on an item it marks it as read. i swore this behavior could be turned off but i can't seem to find that option? it's like in outlook how it has an option to mark item as read on clicking on it or within N seconds of clicking on it... its instant in feeddemon right now and it's driving me crazy.

iphone 3GS is mobile (all updated w/ 3.1)

online account cutoff / how do i manage my feeds???

so, you cut off online access; i signed-up via mobile app with unique account.
i loaded feedburner but that requires my google credentials for google reader which is not the account profile i have with. I HAVE NO WAY TO MANAGE MY ACCOUNT, CHANGE THE CREDENTIALS, NOR MANAGE MY FEEDS.

what do you suggest? i'm not an open source guy so please don't tell me to try a bunch of tech ***, don't have time (isn't time constraint the entire justification of feed readers?), i've already uninstalled/reinstalled because you cant; manage credentials in feedburner either?? just fix my account or call me pretty please!

i realize you have migrated your business model and that single free users may not matter at all ...and if so can you suggest an easy RSS reader (FYI, i can't even pull my feeds into Filtrbox if i can't manage my account).

Lost Feeds in Google Synce

Hi - I just upgraded to the latest NNW. I first merged my feeds with Google Reader, which I thought worked. Later, I was prompted to sync with GR and it nuked all of my feeds. Is there any easy way to recover them?

In the end, I have a backup of my computer and I could grab the data from that.

Help with Google transition, aka Update OPML/feeds

So I had not updated NNW on my mac to the new version until today. When I downloaded and started up the new version all the feeds are OLD and not updated/current. When I log into the Newsgator site they are correct.

I tried to export the OPML as instructed in the NG help, but it says the file is not there, no matter what I try.

When logging into NG, the 'IMPORTANT NOTICE' states "Directions for copying your NewsGator feed subscriptions to Google Reader are contained in our product transition page.", but the linked page (http://www.newsgator.com/productinfo/producttransition.aspx) only provides links to download current versions.

Please help me get my OPML out of NewsGator so my feeds will be current with Google Reader. Thank you!

Google Reader Sync Vs Newsgator Sync

I've been facing some sync-ing problems since the google reader migration and finally I've got the time to do some investigation and pin point the problem.

The iPhone version of Net News Wire is clearly sync-ing with newsgator.com and the mac version is clearly sync-ing with google reader. The problem is that newsgator.com is not itself sync-ing with google reader and for the life of me I can't find an option to configure the iPhone App to use google reader nor an option on the Mac to sync with newsgator.com nor an option in newsgator.com to synch with google.

I undestand that newsgator free is being deprecated, so I wouldn't expect an option to sync with it google reader, but then, I'd expect the iPhone app to sync with it too. (I am running the latest version, further, I deleted it and reinstalled the make sure I'd get rid of all the data.

Any insight on the subject would be much appreciated, thanks.

Version 3.0.0.40 - Open a page in a new tab, the focus goes to the new tab

When I right click on a page and choose 'Open in new tab', it does so but in this version the focus goes to the new tab instead of staying on the page I was using. This is different from all previous experience and happens every time. I uninstalled and reinstalled FeedDemon and the problem has not gone away. Version 3.0.0.40 running IE8.

Also, I have had troubles on several recent beta versions with a file called eWebControl365.dll not being removable during the installation of a new FeedDemon version, forcing me to boot my machine in order to get rid of it and complete the install.

Alternative for Newsgator Inbox

Since I can't post in the Inbox-forum anymore, I'll do it here. Does anyone know an alternative to Newsgator Inbox for Outlook (2007) that also lists the RSS feeds in a tree, that works within Outlook and that syncs unreads with Google Reader or with the iPhone?
Newsgator Inbox was such a unique product, I'd gladly pay for it, but they killed it. Why, oh, why.
And I can't find ANY alternative within Outlook 2007. When you Google, you only get a silly trick that allows you to set Google Reader as Outlook home page. Not what we want.

Runtime Error messages - Beta 3.0.0.36

Since I have used the last four version of the beta Feeddemon, I have been receiving runtime errors. One occurs when I start the program (see the image, attached), and other times they seem to appear from nowhere. I click No and it goes away.

Any suggestions?

I have a friend that is sharing certain news items in Feeddemon 3.0, which then shows in the Google Reader. How do I follow what he is sharing in Feeddemon? I can see them in Google reader, but not Feeddemon.

Bigger text on web pages?

Hey Folks,

I like big fonts, because it is easy to read. Luckily Netnewswire has the option to set a minimum font size. BUT unfortunately this brakes the layout, because this matters to ALL fonts. So the lines get mixed up and blend into each other and so on. BUT once a site is open and then using the option "make text bigger" works perfectly. Is there a way to set this function to a standard to all webpages, similar to the predefined function of the minimum font size?
Maybe with CSS?

Help! I've followed the instructions for migrating to Google Reader, have some of my clippings showing up there, but not all. Have tried the procedure, but any time I append &limit=(any number, from 7 to 50000) I get a "feed not found" error in Google Reader, whether working in Safari or Firefox (I'm on a Mac).

Edit: this happens in Google Reader, in NetNewsWire, and I even downloaded another reader app (Newsfire) and got the same results...

Any help would be appreciated! My ID on newsgator is waldemark.

Unread count mismatch

Catching up on all my subscriptions so I can migrate with 0 unread, using newsgator online, the folders in the left pane show "My Clippings (9)" and "My Feeds (5)", but when I try to view those items I get "There are no new posts to display for this selection." and "To display posts for a particular feed or folder, select the feed or folder from the list on the left. Click Manage Feeds to add RSS feeds to your Web Reader." (respectively). NetNewsWire on my iPhone says "No unread news items", and on my mac says "0 unread". For the last few days this has been the state after reading all displayed new posts (in NGOL; I only installed NNW to compare unead). My username is Polyergic.

Clippings folder rss feed not found in Google Reader

I have followed the instructions posted here to get my saved clippings to be an rss feed and then subscribe to them in Google Reader.

I always get this message back from Google Reader when trying to add the subscription:
"Your search did not match any feeds."

I have made my clippings subfolders public and tried subscribing to it with this link:

http://services.newsgator.com/ngws/svc/ClippingsRSS.aspx?uid=70198&fid=17445971&limit=200

Google Reader doesn't find the feed and iGoogle says that it's not a valid feed.

Does anyone know what the problem might be?

NEW DATE - NewsGator Consumer RSS Reader Product Changes

We recently informed you that NewsGator Online and Synchronization services would not be available for consumers as of August 31, 2009. Since the GA releases of NetNewsWire and FeedDemon, which synchronize with Google Reader, will not be available until next week, we are extending the availability of NewsGator Online and synchronization services. Synchronization will not be disabled before the GA versions of FeedDemon, NetNewsWire for Mac and NetNewsWire for iPhone are available. We anticipate that NewsGator Online availability and synchronization services will end on September 10, 2009. We will update you when the GA versions of FeedDemon and NetNewsWire are available.

I am trying to transfer my posts from Omea reader to FeedDemon.

At first I have tried to download the posts from subscribed blogs (.blogspot) into FeedDemon. However, I can only download the last 25 posts. Can this limit be bypassed?

If not is there anyway I can transfer the posts from Omea to FeedDemon?

I don't use Newsgator online much, except when I'm away from home sans SO's laptop, but one thing I do use all the time from Newsgator online is the screensaver. I'm wondering if there is a way to set it to read from FeedDemon or Google reader or something. Because I love having my news show up like that. It helps me stay on track of things.
So, any word or idea about transferring it or making a new one?

Problem with OPML into Google Reader

Hi.

My RSS feeds are currently 1150. Before upgrading NNW I exported them all with groups and all. To have more options I did it export in few different ways.

Now, Google Reader does not read the OPML file correctly and thus it's not right in NNW. Besides, all groups and subfolders are a total mess... almost total. And there are several feeds missing when I compare NNW to the OPML file.

I am tempted to sort my feeds again now into subfolders and groups but since it's close to madness I would like to know if I will be able to use my OPML file directly into NNW some day? If so I would just collect new feeds separately and sort it when the day comes. Will there be a long wait?

In the previous version of the software there was a delete icon above each article. This seems to have disappeared and I can't find it in any of the menus.

Is there away that I can delete articles that aren't relevant to me...or have I just not found the magic button yet.

Troubled after uninstalling NewGator Inbox

First of all I apologize for opening a thread in this forum instead of the Inbox one, I couldn't find the "Add Topic" button there.

I'm unable to open any new RSS feed after i uninstalled Newsgator Inbox.
Everytime after i click to open a new RSS feed, outlook will pop up and prompt "Application not found".
I've also tried installing other RSS reader plug-in for outlook, but it turns out to be the same. Seems like the default program for RSS feed had been registered by Newsgator Inbox, however, it didn't restore it to the previous Reader after uninstallation.
I would appreciate if you guys could provide me some clues on how to restore the default program for RSS feed reader.
I've tried to change the default program for .xml files, it's still the same.

NewsGator throwing away paying customers

I used to pay for your service and then you made it available for free. I was more than willing to pay since nobody had the trifecta: mobile, desktop, and web. For some reason you thought it was in your best interest to make the service free and now you are canceling the free service with the excuse that you can now only support paying customers.

Uh... I was a paying customer. You decided you didn't want my money which I was more than happy to provide. Heck I probably would have paid $100 per year or more for the service.

I primarily use the mobile app on my Blackberry. My secondary client is FeedDemon. The web is really only relevant as feed storage and syncing to multiple clients.

While FeedDemon Google Reader integration might work out it is secondary to the mobile client and therefore not a solution for me. As suggested I tried FreeRange Reader, which has Google integration and is now free, for some reason, and seems to only have a one way sync with Google Reader and the FreeRange support takes very long to respond to email or forum posts. Either they have big clients to support and don't really care about free customers or they are too small to provide support at all.

Since the announcement I have searched for another solution and cannot find one which means only one thing. There is a market for the trifecta. So I guess thank you? Now I can throw together some Restlets on Google App Engine, create a Blackberry client and an Eclipse RCP client and start selling the service, not providing it for free.

In the end, I am temporarily switching to Google Reader but I will not be using FeedDemon and I will not be using anything from FreeRange.

You know there are people who are willing to pay for a useful service and not willing to use a free ad-laden service. Frankly I am really sick of this trend of free ad-laden services. I want to pay for my service without ads.

Do not Sync preferences?

Is there a place to actually change the Do Not Sync preferences anymore? On the current beta- 3.2b19 , I don't see anyplace to turn syncing off for a specific feed.

This feed was actually set to Do Not Sync before upgrading, and is now syncing.

(I've just downloaded 3.2b23, and it's not there either)

I'm trying Show Info on the feed, and the folder enclosing the feed. No dice.

I don't see any menu items either for that. Also, is there a way to force a sync, like before you leave the office for the night?

All of this pertains to the new Google Reader based sync, obviously.

How to read RSS in the best way as Google Reader is not good decision?

I had transfered my RSS sources to GOOGLE READER as it was notice that we have to do transfer.

As Google Reader is very bad and not like Feed Demon, how to use in the future my sources to be read in good way?

google has bad support (only groups with full of junk messages and without any reply) and Google Reader opens folders on the left even I do not like this (many folders).

Is there any solution?

I use newsgator online, and the iphone app.
I'm aware that the online is disappearing for me, and I've migrated the feeds across to Google. However, the newsgator note says that you'll still be able to sync between the two (google and iphone in my case) - but how? when I loaded the iphone app it logs into newsgator, not google. Theres no new app I can see in appstore for any google support.

So what have I missed?

I have several NewsGator accounts in which I use the Headlines function to do some basic tweaking/customization of the feeds in my list, [b]and republish them as an RSS.[/b]

An example? I read in my blog comments RSS feed, put a small balloon icon before each comment, delete the date and move the linkback to the comment at the end...
Or: I feed in my Twitter public timeline, throw out some junk and prefix each tweet with a small Twitter icon...

The most handy feature of NewsGator Online's Headlines function was the headlines customization.. And it was easy to use.
I have been pretty dependent on this feature for several newsfeeds, aggregators of blogs, news sites etc...

Is there any other alternative out there? I looked at Google Reader's clip function, but that customizes a script. I would like a new RSS to be generated.
Plus I have several aggregators. There is only one Google Reader's account one can use without getting missed up with cookies etc etc etc..

I worked with Yahoo Pipes, but there the tweaking of the feeds is quite a bit more complex and their re-publishing feature is very slow..

What would you, webgurus suggest as an alternative to RSS manipulation/formatting/customization...?

PS: I regret very much the NewsGator free services go offline... I relied on it very much.. I will need to work through the weekend migrating hundreds of feeds to something else... but still, I appreciate the 3 years of faithful and reliable, free online services. Thank you..!

Can't stay logged in on m.newsgator.com

Hi guys!

The site keeps asking me for username and password, when I already logged in.

After login all feeds are shown as usual but next click on a feed leads to login page again.

Tried on Nokia N95 S60 Browser and Opera Mini. Same result on PC with Firefox on [url]http://m.newsgator.com[/url]
Anyone else getting this?

Only see "Read more" when viewing older items (no new posts)

I've just added some new feeds which I accidentally allowed to be marked all read. Now I'm trying to view some of those older posts online. If I click on one of the feeds, I get a message saying:
There are no new posts to display for this selection. To display older items click here.

If I "click here", the feed opens up but the individual posts are just stubs with a heading of "Read more". This seems to be happening with quite a few of my feeds, including this one (for example):
feed://blogs.msdn.com/sqlstuff/rss.xml

If I access the feed using the Mac NetNewsWire client, things seem to work fine.

Am I doing something wrong? While I've been using RSS for quite some time, I'm fairly new to NewsGator.

Syncing NewsGator, Google Reader & FeedDemon

Hello,

Due to the e-mail that was posted in NewsGator on August 1, I went ahead and opened up an account on Google Reader and synced the two together successfully. I had already had a FeedDemon account but rarely used it because I had access to NewsGator. I do not have the enterprise so it looks like I will not be able to use NewsGator after the end of this month. Would I be correct in saying that?

Before August 1, my feeds were already going into FeedDemon from NewsGator. Another question I now have is do I need to sync Google Reader & FeedDemon together so that all three will be synced together. (NewsGator, Google Reader & FeedDemon)?

Since I will not be using NewsGator in the future which is the better of the two to operate from Google Reader or FeedDemon?

Any assistance would be appreciated. Thank you,

Export tags from Newsgtator?

Similar question to what has already been asked about Clippings? Is there a way for me to export my tagged items or expose them as a feed etc?

I've tended to tag items I want to keep rather then moving them into clippings folders like people on the other thread. Maybe that was the wrong approach but it's what I did. As a result, I've got 1000+ tagged items spread across multiple tags (in contrast, I've only got 30 clippings in 1 folder....)

To make it worse there doesn't seem to be any way of moving these tagged items back to any sort of clippings folder or creating a custom feed, so even if a suitable workaround is developed for clippings, my tagged items might still be stuck where they are.

Any ideas?
