Clicking My Feeds too sensitive

Just a minor niggle but hey it's quiet on here nowadays :P

Found that unless I click My Feeds with an ultra-steady hand it complains about moving root folders. Can this not be made a little more tolerant, i.e. only complain why you try moving it a few more pixels?

Apart from that appears to be running great - especially like the fact that you can select the number of feeds per page :D

Beta too slow, had to go back to classic to get anything done.

I'm sorry, I really tried, but my unread feeds hit 1500+ in the past ten days because I just do not have the time to sit through the "Loading" screen and all that loads behind it every time I change feeds or mark a page read.

For instance, with the Beta reader, just tonight, I clicked on a feed at 8:20:48, and it loaded at 8:23:34. Three minutes? In the Classic reader, it took ten seconds for the same feed to load. I wanted to get with the times, but after three week I found I prefer the classic reader.

For the record, I'm running Firefox on a 500Mhz PC with WinXPSP2 and 192 MB of RAM.

mark all above as read

I've been using the beta version of NG online and LOVED the 'mark all above as read.' Am I to understand with the new beta released today that the mark all option is no longer available?

If so, I'll weep quietly for the future.

Everything Old is New Again

Recently (not sure exactly when, with the last week or so) old feeds are returning. Articles from around the middle of last month forward keep coming back as new. It's strange in that not >all< of them come back, just >some< of them. It's happening a lot.

I'm not sure if it's related to the new beta version of the online reader, but it did start happening about the time I decided to take another look at it and turned it back on.

Folder & feed context menus are inconsitent

The folder right-click context menu is

I've lost count of the number of time I almost deleted a folder when I meant to mark it as read (saved only by intervening dialog). It would be helpful if the folder menu could be changed to:

[b]Mark as read
Rename
New
Delete[/b]

To be consistent with t he feed menu and put the most frequently used option at the top and the most destructive at the bottom.

Problems with Custom credentials

I have a feed that works in other RSS readers but like the newsGator products better, i also use the mobile version for my Ipod Touch/iphone.

When i go to the online page and setup the new Subscription i put in the URL and then select the Custom credentials radio button, then i put in my user name and password.

The new Feed is then loaded and the first group of items are displayed in the reader. I mark all as read, then move on to check for updates. After the 1st sync i no longer get updates.

I go into the settings page and click to edit the feed. I find that although the Custom credentials is selected my User Name and Password are gone.

Does anybody know if the email edition is still working? Is it free along with all of the other rss readers? I'm trying to set up the email edition to download as pop in gmail, but the server is denying my access. Can anyone help??

I've got following questions regarding the excellent widgets:

Does the system support atom feeds? I have registered a blogspot.com atom feed at feedburner. Now i can neither find posts out of the blogspot feed nor from the feedburner.

Can i add such a widget created at your platform simply add to the Google Gadget directory?

Removed features

Here's a list of features that have been removed from the second beta (although alpha would be a better characterization) and need to be added back pronto:
- Mark All Above Read
- Goto Site (when right clicking on feed)
- Refresh folder (when right clicking on folder)
- The 'X' to close popup on AJAX context menus (right-click)
- Download attachment link (I can't seem to download podcasts anymore)

Turn off group by feeds?

Since the hybrid came in I can't find the function 'group by feeds'. Want to turn it off so my feeds are fully chronological.

Also noticed that when I log into these forums I still have to use my old email address I changed from months ago???

"Mark all posts as read" at bottom of page not working

When I click the "mark all posts as read" at the bottom of a page, a new IE window opens with "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". However if I click the same link at the top of a page, it works fine.

BTW I have been switched from the classic Newsgator Online to the beta without notification this evening, and I can't find a way to switch back. I'm a much bigger fan of the classic UI - simpler, slicker and easier to read IMHO.

OK, I'm confused.

I understand that Beta is now the New and the Old is now the Beta - however, which am I on? I was using the beta exclusively for almost the entire time it's been available - does this mean what I'm using now that has the "Newsgator Online beta" banner is now the "new beta" and not the "new reader"?

Now for the bugs... Well, the subject says it all.

Also, I understand NewsGator transition from old-beta & old-stable to new-beta as explained somewhere else, but there is one feature I really miss, and it's "Mark all above read" link. So, it would be nice to have it back for the new-stable version.

Do not mark feed as read when opened / Cannot change settings

Before the new version went live today, I could click on a feed and then either choose to mark the whole feed as read or pick individual articles to be marked as read. Now, there's a statement that the whole feed is marked as read with instructions to change this in Settings. When I go to Settings, I can't find any such setting to change this. Am I missing it, or has this been overlooked?

Subscribe in NewsGator Online shortcut no longer works--any plans to update?

With the Classic reader I used to use a javascript shortcut I had dragged to my Firefox toolbar, but since the web reader's been in Beta the shortcut doesn't work anymore.

Any plans to update the shortcut? I used to like it.

This is what I'm talking about, btw, for those who didn't use it:

Just putting my two cents in. Also, I would like very much to not see the classic reader completely phased out because I also have an older computer I use often and prefer as little flash and loading times as possible when I'm trying to read the feeds.

IE6 crashing if mousing while items are still downloading;

OK, i can pretty much crash my browser (IE6, SP2) every time if I start using the mouse while there are still items on the page left to download;

1. Open Newsgator;

2. After the "Loading" dialog goes away, but while there are still items left to download (where is says "Downloading (n)" in the lower left-hand corner of the browser) use the mouse - scroll a few times, right-click a feed or folder in the tree pane. On my system IE will crash every time.

I've got the most current drivers for my mouse, which is just a plain-jane Microsoft Optical mouse;

RSS Feeds not updating?

I just set up a couple Feeds in Newgator Online and they aren't anywhere near as current as the actual RSS Feeds. Last night it took several hours for one update.

What can I do about this?

Just out of curiosity, why don't folders with no unread items disappear as they are emptied. To make them disappear I have to de-select the option and re-select it again.

In the classic reader, text wraps correctly, in beta, it just runs way off to the right with no horizontal scroll available.

Oddly, the (http://www.on-a-mac.com/) feed was showing the same behavior, then while writing this, while swapping between classic and beta, the feed was displayed correctly. CSS issues?

Drag-and-drop not working in FF2

I have tried several times, but I cannot move feeds by dropping and dragging them to their new folder in FF2. If I go to IE6 (both on the same WinXP SP2 macine), they drag and drop fine

Unless I REALLY tweak my right-click menu with Menu Editor, in Firefox (latest, Mac) I always get AT LEAST 'Copy Link Location' as an item on top of the usual right-click menu.

Any way to make this go away without losing useful functionality?

Cannot delete keyword search

I tried several times to delete a keyword search - since when I tried to add another keyword search I got an error message which said I am limited to only one keyword search at a time. Clicking "Delete" on my current keyword search, as well as Refreshing my browser and even closing/restarting IE had no effect - the current keyword search cannot be deleted.

A Feature & A Bug: [CONTROL]-[F]

I regularly use the IE command of [CONTROL]-[F] to bring up the text search box for look for something within a page, often times in the Newsgator article listing.

With NG Online Beta, I've noticed that the same command also changes my setting from 'display headlines' (or summaries) to 'display full article'. I must then manually change this setting back to my preference to get it back the way I want it.

Seems like any [CONTROL] key combinations used should not be the same as what's used in IE, especially a common one like [F]ind. As often as I use it, it's a nuisance to continually be changing the display setting in NG. I guess if I used 'display full article' it wouldn't matter, but I don't...

Sun blogs not updated

Hi, I read http://blogs.sun.com/ via NetNewsWire 3.1b18 (I have it sync to my NewsGator Online) account. For the past few days, it hasn't picked up newer posts. When I unsubscribe and resubscribe, I get the current subscription and the feed stays that way even though newer posts come online at http://blogs.sun.com [I wait for a few hours for NG Online to do a sync run but still nothing shows up in either NNW or NG online]

Beta doesn't like MAKE

You may have to watch this one for a while, as sometimes MAKE works fine in beta. Sometimes, however, beta just spins and spins and cannot display the feed at all.

Page not loading with Firefox

The main page will not fully load with FF. It keeps saying loading but it never finishes. It's a new problem that started a few hours ago.

Unread counts not updating starting today

Unread counts for the folders are not updating today, for me, in FireFox 1.5.07. This is when using "Mark all above as read" or clicking the checkbox for a post. If I refresh the folder or the page, then the unread counts will change, but that is the only time they do. This was working fine yesterday, has anything changed?

If I select a specific sub-folder or a specific feed, and read articles, then click on the "Mark all posts on this page as read" button at the top of the feed pane, unread counts on the folder/feed list on the left update correctly.

However, if I select the master folder list, "My Feeds", read a page of articles, and click on the "Mark all posts on this page as read" button at the top of the page, the unread counts on the folder/feed list on the left do not change.

I've been using the NewsGator Online Beta for some time. The problems I am mentioning here have been there for a while. Since they haven't been cleaned up yet, I thought I would report them. These are primarily cosmetic issues, but I will do my best to describe them:

For context, I have about 75 feeds, organized into three folders. I am running XP SP2 (with all latest updates) and IE 7. I tend to leave the NewsGator Online window open all day and go back to check on it periodically to read my feeds.

Ideally, I would love the window to update automatically, at least with the unread count for my folders. Every once in a while, I notice that this happens by itself -- I come back to the still-open browser window, and one folder now says that there are two unread posts. Generally, however, I click on the top-level My Feeds folder to get it to update the unread count and disply the first page of feeds. Occassionally, I have to refresh the browser window (F5) in order to get new posts to show up.

After I have gone back and forth reading my feeds a couple of times, the next update of the window will show that the number of pages of posts I have is negative. The top of the Window will say "Page 1 of -2" or something like that. In fact, when I next click "Mark All Posts On This Page Read" right next to this Page number, the total page count will decrement further so that it then says "Page 1 of -3".

Through all this, I notice that the unread counts on the folders update sporadically. My usual mode of reading is to read all the posts on a page, scroll back up to the top, and then click on "Mark All Posts On This Page Read". Occasionally I mark posts read via some of the other mechanisms (per post, per feed, Mark All Above Read). I don't notice these issues when I mark posts as read that way.

I acknowledge that these are cosmetic, primarily. However, I think that they also should be addressed at some point.

Unread count decreases incorrectly

Hi,

I'm seeing a problem with the unread posts count. Not sure if this is related to the one mentioned in another topic on [url=http://forum.newsgator.com/Topic31239-52-1.aspx]"ticket 109373"[/url] or not, since it's a different behaviour.

The problem happens when viewing a feed that has more unread items than are displayed by a single page.
My usual inclination is to press the "Mark all above read" link on the last post, in order to mark everything on the page as read, and then go to the next page (clicking the little green icon at the top of the page).
When I go to the next page, the unread count decreases again. The amount seems to be whatever is displayed on the second page (that is, either a single page-view amount of posts, or how many unread posts are left, whatever is smaller).

The posts on the viewed page are styled like unread posts (i.e. the titles are bold). And if I mark an individual post as unread it changes to the read style (non-bold title), but the unread count does not decrease further.

If I switch to a different feed, and then go back, I don't see those posts (the view is set to only show unread posts, of course). It's like they really were marked as read.

But if I log off, and then log on again, they're back to being unread and I can read them. So whatever the problem is, it seems to probably be on the client/js side, and not on the server.

If I have more than two pages, and when I go to the second page I again press the "Mark all above read" button, the count does not immediately decrease. But when I go further to the third (etc, etc, I assume) page, the count drops again for the next page and the behaviour repeats for it.

You can see the read/unread style in the attached images, one of which shows unread messages while the feed/folder pane shows no unread messages in the feed.

Happens on both Firefox and Opera.

Paging down in Safari

Using the spacebar to page down is NOT working in Safari v. 2.0.4 (419.3). The only way to scroll down is to drag the scroll bars or use the scroll wheel on the mouse. The spacebar and the Page Down key do not work in the Newsgator Online beta.

Litjit?

OK, I was reading Nick Bradbury's blog today and noticed a "search this blog's network" box powered by Litjit in the feed title bar in NGO.

I couldn't get it to come up on other blog titles there and wanted to know if a) this was something embedded in Nick's feed (didn't see anything in the source that was obvious), b) how long has it been there and have I just been blind, and c) if it is not and it's something from NGO, is there a way to turn it off?

I like it, but it appears to occasionally crash IE6 - it SEEMS to happen at random times if I run my mouse over the section where it normally appears, but before the form element/image has loaded. Although it seems to me it has crashed at least once with out me touching the mouse.

expand folder (context menu) fails when no unread articles in folder

Right-click on a folder in the folder list to bring up the context menu. Select expand folder.

No action if there are no unread articles in the feeds of the folder.

Keyboard Shortcuts - where?

I used to get a pop-up of the keyboard shortcuts in the new reader but now it's gone and I'll be darned if I can find them anywhere in any kind of documentation.

I saw a reference to case 87350 but in doing a search on the forums and the KB, it isn't anywhere.

Where is the list of current keyboard shortcuts for the beta reader?

Feed Items Disappear before I can read them...

This one is a bit difficult to describe. Occasionally when I click to read a folder in the Newgator Online using the beta reader, the feeds items will appear to be loading in the reading pane, but then just as the items are finishing loading, the feed items all disappear, leaving the "There are no new posts to display for this selection. To display posts for a another feed or folder, select the feed or folder from the list on the left. " message in their place. Can't seem to figure out exactly what set of situations causes this, but it's caused me to switch back to the classic reader many times. I keep coming back for more though...

New MSNBC Video Site: Pages Don't Load

MSNBC has recently completely updated their video site. The feeds still appear correctly in Newsgator (beta), but the first click of a feed link brings up a 'page not found' in IE. Refreshing that page just brings up the same error, however, if I re-click the link in the Newsgator listing, it works on the 2nd attempt. Happens pretty consistently, and I'm not sure if it's related to MSNBC or something with Newsgator. CBC Feeds Not Updating

Hello,

I have noticed in the past week that feeds from the CBC have stopped updating in NewsGator. I verified with another news reader that the feeds themselves are being updated but this is not being reflected in Newsgator.
