This may be a stupid question, but....

Why can't I see any read feeds? I just downloaded the latest version today and I can only see unread articles/feeds. If there is no unread feeds, the screen is blank. I cannot find any option to show the read feeds on the main screen. How do I get to the read articles? There are many time I need to review an old one. I have an AT&T Tilt (a.k.a. HTC TYTN II) running WM6.

Login Credentials

I can login on the website, but I can't login on my mobile phone (first time user / install).

I try to just create my login and it says it's already in use, but if I try to login using what works on the Newsgator Online site, it won't let me in.

Crazy Talk - NewsGator Go! and an N810?

A quick Google later, I found the page for Mono on Maemo, the platform of the Nokia internet tablets, including my N810.

If I recall, NewsGator Go! is a .NET app. Would it be possible to port it to Mono and run it on the N810? I've tried the online reader, but the width of the navigation bar on the left is fixed, and takes up WAY too much of my very limited screen real-estate. (This is a problem that should be addressed regardless, the N810 has an 800x480 screen resolution, the same resolution of the popular subnotebooks such as the Asus Eee, therefore the online reader really should accommodate such a common resolution. Making it collapsible would fix the problem.) I'm currently using the Mobile reader but development really seems to have stopped on this version, it doesn't even paginate unread items, instead it displays all of them (possibly hundreds) with a single "mark as read" link.

The BEST case scenario would be to take advantage of the richness and optimization for small screens of the Go! client. Any chance of this happening?

Cant view feeds

Hi,

I installed the newsgator go on my AT&T and when i start it i get the feed url, but how do i view the articles inside each feeds. When i click it it just syncs, no way to know how to open the feed and read though the feeds

I've just installed NewsGator Go! on a new WM6 pda (HTC Tytn II) and I get this error message when trying to sync: "Please check your credentials and ensure you have a network connection".

I've tried reinstalling (both from the exe and from the cab), I'm using the right version (ppc), I've checked my credentials and they work perfectly on the website, the connection on my pda works fine for everything else.

I was wondering if perhaps there could be a problem with my previous installation on a different pda. Does the system keep track of the different installations?

The following error just started yesterday and the only way I can sync is by selecting ‘reset sync’ which doesn't clear read items:

Synchronization failed, please try again:

Invalid User Action Specified. Values must be alphanumeric and
follow the format [Action + Count]. Count must be greater than 0.
Ex: For single actions ‘A1’ or for multiple actions: ‘A1B1C2’

I have tried uninstalling/re-installing and changing feeds. Any thoughts?

The error message below is what I get after I have successfully installed the newest version of windows smartphone for mobile for NG.

Won't sync over wifi

I'm using NewsGator Go! for Windows Mobile on an AT&T Tilt with WM6 Pro. I don't know the NewsGator version, but the file NewsGatorAPI.dll is at version 1.0.2930.18261. Aside from the occasional crash, the worst problem I have is that the program won't sync over wifi. It syncs fine over the cell network or when it is docked to the computer using ActiveSync, but when I try to sync over wifi nothing happens. I don't get an error. Other programs, like Internet Explorer, Opera Mini, and XpressMail work fine over wifi.

Suggestion for NewsGator Go

In a future release, is it possible to develop via Microsoft Voice Command a means to read via Voice Command some part of each clipping.

Microsoft has done this with email, Nuance has been able to have PDA read text messages.

It would improve the use of Newsgator Go for Windows Mobile, for example you could have NG Go read new feeds as you are driving, if there were options to save a feed, it would allow a way to cull articles that you want to save for further reading.

I am a happy user of the Feeddemon, Newsgator and Go! applications. There is something that I would like to propose for integration in the Go! application.

I am using my Go! application to download podcasts to listen to on the road. I would like the ability to set to auto download media content (podcasts and the like). Then I would like the ability to set to keep the most resent [setting here] (for instance 3) number of media files of that feed.

What do you think about this proposal?

Feature request: Connection dependent sync

Hello all,

I am a happy user of the Feeddemon, Newsgator and Go! applications. There is something that I would like to propose for integration in the Go! application.

I have three type of connections available on my smartphone, GPRS, Wifi and ActiveSync. For my GPRS data I have to pay pre used byte. That means that I cannot sync automatically whilst that can be very expensive. I would like to propose that I can choose at the auto sync option menu, which connections can be used to auto sync. Meaning that if I am on the road (onlt GPRS available or none) auto sync will not run. When I am at home (ActiveSync) or using wifi auto sync will run.

What do you think about this proposal?

New Build for NewsGator Go! for Windows Mobile (Version 2.0.0.25419)

We introduced an update for NewsGator Go! for Windows Mobile today. We also have a new way of downloading all of our mobile programs. Just follow [url=http://m.newsgator.com/d/]this link[/url] and agree to the terms of service and you are on your way. Our servers should recognize your device type and serve up the appropriate download.

Here is a list of some of the fixes in the latest build. (Not comprehensive)

* scrolling in post detail view crash resolved
* mark all read - if you are on the post list view and select "Mark All Read" it takes you to the next feed or back to the feed list if you are at the end
* index position after detail view - after closing the post detail view we have fixed the defect that was not preserving the selection and scroll position
* post detail screen - if you select next and are at the end of the feed list it now brings you back to the feed list
* description overlap in post list view - we removed carriage return line feeds from author element to prevent text overlap
* progress bar - vertical position causing an unnecessary scroll bar on the feed list view
* list drawing - fixed misleading whitespace at bottom of post list view when there are more articles present
* selection was getting hidden in post list view on scrolling
* click on a post to view fixed on Pocket PC

Program Crash - No Error

I have an O2 xda 2i with windows mobile 2003

Newsgator Go! installed ok but when I run the app it closes automatically and doesn't give any errors.

I have used both the desktop activsync and .cab installers

Any ideas?

Issue with NewsGator Go 1.5 on HTC Advantage

The software installs on my HTC Advantage fine.

I un-install NewsGator Go 1.1, then install 1.5.

The feeds download 1st time, when I try to sync the dialogue box comes up to sync, when I press “yes” it closes.

Why is this happening, this is the second request for assistance.

I am still a paying customer for NewsGator Go as well as NewsGator desktop products, I would appreciate some assistance.

Sync while in flight mode but with active WiFi connection not possible

How resolve the constant crashes?

A few months ago, I installed an earlier (trial) version of NewsGator Go! on my Windows Mobile 5 Pocket PC device. I liked the application's feature list, but it kept crashing on me. I reported the problems on this forum. One of the suggestions was for me to prune down my feed list until the application no longer crashed. Unfortunately, my trial ran out before I could do much troubleshooting. I thereafter uninstalled the application.

This week, I purchased and installed the latest version. I'm still having problems, even with only five or six feeds, totalling a few hundred entries. Sometimes the application will simply disappear and unload upon returning from my viewing a feed's entries; sometimes it will disappear when I press the Sync button. Other times, an error message will appear similar to this one:

A native exception has occurred in NGMobilePPC.exe. Select Quit and then restart this program, or select Details for more information.

Pressing the Detail button oftentimes causes the error dialog to disappear and then returns me to my Today screen.

Now that I've pruned my feed list down to a minimum--and I have the non-trial version installed and therefore won't run out of time to troubleshoot--what can I do to help resolve these problems? The product has great potential; I just wish it would be more stable for me.

Deletion of single news items not possible?

Client Shows No New Posts

For some reason on my Newsgator Go! client on my Windows Mobile 6.1 AT&T (HTC) Tilt/Kaiser, I am not getting any updated posts. The client is able to sync, and goes through the motions of contacting the different feeds but doesn't actually show any new posts. It just shows "There are currently no unread posts in your feed list." If I fire up my FeedDemon client it shows plenty of new posts. I have tried uninstalling the old client and making sure the Newsgator Go! folder is gone, then installing the latest Beta with no luck. Any ideas?

Isn't an offline mode one of the features in this program? I got my feeds and all of them are just capsule texts and they all only have links to web pages online. The whole point of this thing is to read things on my PDA when I'm not online!

Question/Feature Request access to clipped items on Mobile?

Hi,

Been using News Gator via Web, FeedDemon and Go! (on WM5) for a couple of weeks now and it has really helped cut down on wading through the duplicate posts between home, work and mobile! Also had a go with your Windows Media Centre plugin which worked quite well although not officially supported anymore?

Anyway my question was I know I can add clips now to multiple folders (after adding them online, then sync the device and then 'Refresh Folders' option while adding a new clip on the device) but is there anyway to read clipped items on the device itself?

As I monitor a lot of feeds I tend want to scan through and clip those of interest, but sometimes I'll be away from a PC so actually have more time to read articles on the mobile than while at a desk, so would really like this feature.

Hopefully you can tell me that either I've missed an interface option, or it's a planned feature?

I'd like to report some bugs that I found. All these are found in v1.5.0.18262 on HTC Kaiser with PPC version. NewsGator Go! is installed on device but feeds and media are stored on storage card.

1) Pressing left direction key on HTC Kaiser causes NewsGator Go! to crash

Create a folder named "Finance"
Add the feed: http://www.aiderss.com/rss/great/getrichslowly.org/blog
Expand the "Finance" folder
Press middle key to view Get Rich Slowly feed
Highlight one of the posts and press middle key to view content
Press left direction key and you'll see that NewsGator Go! disappears. Task Manager shows that it's no longer running.

2) Read posts status is lost after going to another feed

Press the Menu key to bring up the NewsGator Go! menu
Press "Settings"
Click "Feeds"
Press the Menu key again to get the menu
Press "Options"
Uncheck "Mark read after navigating through"
Add two feeds (any feeds)
Click the first feed to view all its posts
Click one of the posts
Click OK and verify that the post is now indicated as read
Press down until the program brings you to the next feed
Press OK to return to the list of feeds
You'll see that the read posts from previous feed is no longer marked as read

3) I also experience that sometimes while viewing a post pressing down direction key causes crash but I don't have a consistent repro. Are there ways to enable debug logging?

OFF-line sync between PC and smartphone

I have seen discussions around this in the forum, but still can't figure it out.

Newsgator Go! works for me and syncs with FeedDemon without problem. But that requires my smartphone to make a connection to the Internet. I would like to use NewsGator Go! being [u][b]100% OFF[/b]line = no phone access to the Internet [b]** NEVER **.[/b][/u]

My NewsGator Go! databse is on a MiniSD card on my phone. After closing NewsGator Go! on my phone, I eject the card and plug it to my PC. From FeedDemon, I went to "Manage Cache" and pointed to the MiniSD card folder.

But this does not work, it looks like FeedDemon cannot recognize the NewsGator Go! database and vice-versa. :pinch:

So I am still scratching my head to find a way to synchronize the database between PC and phone without using the Internet. If the MiniSD card with the common database is plugged into the PC, then I want FeedDemon to handle it and synchronize the database (for example, display a folder called "MiniSD" in the feed bar, containing all feeds that are on the card). I also want FeedDemon to fetch newest feed items from the Internet and dump them into the database on the MiniSD card for later viewing on the phone. Note that I am not talking about Microsoft ActiveSync which is buggy and I never use anyway.

Do you think that such a thing is/will soon be possible?

Eventually, how about having 1 common database on a MiniSD card, being legible by both FeedDemon on the PC and NewsGator Go! on the phone? If the MiniSD card holding the database is on my PC, then I can open it with FeedDemon. If it is plugged into my phone, then I could open it with NewsGator Go! on my phone. That would be the easiest way to use it for me. All update via the Internet would be done by the PC, never by the phone.
I do not have conflict issues like "file changed on both phone and PC", because the database on the MiniSD card can only be plugged either into the PC or into the phone at once, never into both at the same time.

Offline Mode

After installing version 2.0 I noticed two major problems that I did not have in the 1.5 betas. First, the offline mode seems to be gone. I was using Newsgator extensively during my commute but because of several tunnels and dead zones along the way I needed to switch to offline mode so that the software would not hang up waiting to download images. Now I have to wait up to 30 seconds while switching between articles. Please put the offline feature back in and put it somewhere that it is easy to get to so switching can be done quickly. I have had to stop using Newsgator GO because of this issue. The second issue is the settings screens on a landscape VGA device are not formatted correctly. All of the options crammed so close together that they are overlapping and some are barely legible.

Using Scroll Wheel with Blackjack II

I've got the latest version of the client installed on my AT&T Blackjack II and most of the app appears to be working. It pulled down my feeds, and I can view the headlines just fine. The problem comes in when I'm viewing an actual news item and try to use the BJII's scroll wheel. If the first thing I do in the article is spin the scroll wheel to scroll the window down, the app immediately crashes out silently. However, if I use the D-Pad once and click down once, the scroll wheel will then work fine. Any ideas?

I'm using NewsGator Go! on Windows Mobile for Smartphones on a Samsung Blackjack on AT&T. It works fine, but I find it annoying that when it starts to Sync it brings the application forward and makes it active. I set it up to automatically sync so I have my most recent posts. But, when it starts to sync, it should stay in the background rather than becoming the active application. It did this when I was composing an email, and I found it annoying.

Another annoyance is the two-level menu stucture. I tend to read posts by drilling down to the first one and then hitting 'Next' to step through my unread posts one by one. When I am done, it would be great to have one menu to bring me back up to the top level rather than having to hit Done on one menu and then Done on another to get back to the top level so I can manually Sync again.

Crash Opening New Item

Using Moto Q9M. I open any item in Newspaper view from the root folder and as soon as it opens I get a spinning wheel that soon results in the the item closing and returning to Newspaper view with the item marked as read.

Great feature set - but terrible implementation. I have been searching for a great RSS reader for Windows Mobile for a long time. Yesterday - with much glee - I put newsgator go on my shiny new samsung blackjack II. I love the feature set - but I had all kinds of problems with the app crashing frequently. I tried removing some feeds per the suggestions here. Finally - I just tried to uninstall it. It looks like you application has bricked my phone. I can't get it to boot. I will now have to do a hard reset and reconfigure the whole thing ... Thanks newsgator ... this is going to cost me hours of work to reconfigure and reinstall everything.

Please -- try to make sure the quality bar is higher before you put out apps.

A couple of other people have reported getting the following error on starting up Newsgator Go! for some time now, but there doesn't appear to have been a solution offered so far.

"Please check your credentials and ensure you have a network connection"

I get this message on one of my devices, although it works fine on another device. Both devices are Windows Mobile 6 Professional.

I tried the current beta, and get exactly the same issue.

The funny thing is, if I type in the WRONG password - I get a different error: "Please check your Newsgator credentials" so it seems to actually accept the username and password, but obviously that still doesn't help.

Did anyone manage to find any solutions?

1.5 Beta or Out of beta, 2.0?

For Windows Mobile (we know this isnt the case), but just thought you might like to know it wasn't an error in reading from the person who posted the thread i link to below below.

In this topic here (http://forum.newsgator.com/Topic34706-56-1.aspx - regarding the 2.0), Jonathon states that 1.5 is out of beta, but neither the NG Go! beta forum or the NG Go! for windows mobile forum reflect this in anyway, is it out of beta? I'm waiting for the download email to turn up from both the Beta download page and the non-beta download page to check what's going on, but you guys could really do better in communicating what's going on here. Nick does an excellent job of this with Feed Demon, so i kind of expect the same with your other products.

Also, nowhere that i can see on the newsgator site is the version number number for Go! Windows Mobile actually mentioned, where as the other client products all have their version numbers stated clearly on their product page.

Sync Not working

I upgraded yesterday, have 2 PDA's, 1st one syncs perfectly, my 2nd one will not sync at all.

I have reloaded NewsGator Go 1.5, when I reloaded, it synced 1st time.

When I hit sync button in bottom left, will not sync at all, I have tried both connected to activesync and via wifi, will not work.

The unit is HTC Advantage 7501.

BTW, I am still a paying customer, why does support@newsgator.com not work for me anymore?

Error retrieving full post

I am using NewsGator Go! For Windows Mobile; I am running Windows Mobile 6 on my HTC Mogul phone (from Sprint). It has the latest ROM installed, dated November 2007.

I installed NewsGator Go! yesterday when I learned it was now available for free.

My Feeds were populated and update without issue.

However, when I go into a feed, select a story and then select "View Full Post", I get the error "The file 'http://www.google.com/gwt/n?_gwt_nolmg=0&u=http://rss.cnn.com/~r/rss/si_topstories/~3/214131415/index.html' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring the file."

I have uninstalled this app, deleted the installed folders, and reinstalled but to no avail.

What do I need to do to get this to work?

On the screen the information is : "There are currently no unread posts in your feed list". I know that but I want to see the posts read too.

I've got a Dell Axim X51v, and I'm hoping the new Windows Mobile version of NG Go is compatible with my device. I tried installing it, but it did nothing when I tried to run it. I've rolled back. Am I missing something here?

automatic sync

Right now I have to manually request a sync and that by itself can take a while.

Wanting to get rid of that extra step thru the 'Menu' key.
