We are trying for the end of the week, but may have to push it back to next week. There are a lot of new features, and to be honest, development is taking longer than we originally anticipated. We apologize once again for this delay, but the wait will be worth it. :)

RE: How resolve the constant crashes?

keith - any status update on the beta?

RE: How resolve the constant crashes?

Our apologies for delaying this new beta for the Windows Mobile device. We were forced to push it back due to a commitment to the new iPhone reader. That reader has been officially released today and we are now shifting focus to the beta.

Look for this beta to be released early next week, barring any unforeseen obstacles. We appreciate your patience and look forward to your feedback. There will be a lot of new features to look forward to.

RE: How resolve the constant crashes?

Hi Kevin,

Any further update on when the new beta will be available? That will be something like ...\Program Files\NewsGator Go! and let me know the full name of the executable in that folder. It will look something like NGMobile.exe.

Thanks Chris.

RE: How resolve the constant crashes?

Thanks, Kevin. I have a 4GB miniSD card installed in this device. I have the NGG application installed to this external storage. I am also using this external storage to store the feeds.

Just now, I wanted to confirm that NGG was configured to use this external storage. NGG was still in memory, at the feed tree. When I pressed the Menu button at the bottom right, NGG immediately disappeared. These are the kinds of annoying crashes that I'm referring to. Obviously, NGG was still loaded from the last time I used it--which was yesterday morning.

Anyway, upon re-launching NGG and then going to Menu > Storage Location, I was able to confirm that the Storage Directory is set to my 4GB miniSD card--specifically, Storage Card \ Program Files \ NewsGator Go!

How do you suggest we proceed at this point?

RE: How resolve the constant crashes?

Chris, Go! caches your feeds and the feed content down to your device so that you can still access your content when you do not have a network connection. That is most likely the culprit leading to low memory and the resulting behavior you are seeing.

Most Windows Mobile devices have support for some form of external storage. I would recommend looking into options for your particular mobile. I have a 1 GB mini SD card that I use to hold my feed content and also sore podcasts and photos. Definitely look into that as it will make your mobile much more functional and help Go! run better too :)

If you need some assistance with picking a good external storage option for your device, give a holler.

RE: How resolve the constant crashes?

Thanks, Kevin. Could NGG stability be negatively affected by the amount of free Storage and/or Program space?
My device has Total Storage space of 43.50MB, but is frequently near full. My device has Total Program space of 49.20MB, usually with about 8MB free. It's my understanding that the OS is supposed to intelligently manage these memory pools, within reason. I have to admit, however, that I don't know much about these two memory pools.

Last week (but long after NGG began crashing), I inexplicably started receiving 'Low Storage Memory' messages from the OS. Sure enough, Total Storage Free was 0.0MB. I uninstalled a few programs. Since then, NGG has been surprisingly stable. While using NGG, I've noticed that Total Storage fluctuates between 1.4MB and 1.6MB free.

RE: How resolve the constant crashes?

Chris, I do have some updated info... I am waiting on a new server build to be tested and deployed and that should take address the issues you are seeing.

This fix will be in the next beta and also will likely warrant a fix release for the existing version. That will be available soon.

RE: How resolve the constant crashes?

Kevin, do you have any updated information for me? I liked the application's feature list, but it kept crashing on me. I reported the problems on this forum. One of the suggestions was for me to prune down my feed list until the application no longer crashed. Unfortunately, my trial ran out before I could do much troubleshooting. I thereafter uninstalled the application.
This week, I purchased and installed the latest version. I'm still having problems, even with only five or six feeds, totalling a few hundred entries. Sometimes the application will simply disappear and unload upon returning from my viewing a feed's entries; sometimes it will disappear when I press the Sync button. Other times, an error message will appear similar to this one:

A native exception has occurred in NGMobilePPC.exe. Select Quit and then restart this program, or select Details for more information.

Pressing the Detail button oftentimes causes the error dialog to disappear and then returns me to my Today screen.

Now that I've pruned my feed list down to a minimum--and I have the non-trial version installed and therefore won't run out of time to troubleshoot--what can I do to help resolve these problems? The product has great potential; I just wish it would be more stable for me.
