same problem on S60 devices as the problem experienced and reported in the BB thread.
Any update as to what causes the problem?

I remove then re-installed NGGo but the problem is still there.

Offline feed browsing

Coming from the world of windows mobile, one feature which proved highly valuable was the ability to browse my feeds while in offline mode (in the underground or when a network connection is not available). I have since moved to the Symbian platform, and this feature doesn't seem to be available on your java client - am I missing something?

Overall the Windows mobile version is more powerful than the one for traditional smartphones - will you update the client to include (i) offline reading, (ii) the ability to sync all feeds at the same time?

Samsung Instinct Support?

Will there be support added to the Java version of NewsGator Go! to accommodate the touchscreen and lack of physical keyboard on the Samsung Instinct (SPH-M800)? I'd love to use my synced account to read my feeds on this device.

The app downloads and runs, but like all other Java apps that don't support the device, you can not enter text into the input fields to login and start using the program.

Can't close on Nokia n95 8gb

Just installed the lastes version onto Nokia N95 8gb. I have a number of problems that I can't resolve.....

1. I can't exit the application and have to "reboot" the device to close it.

2. Updates seem to take forever (using default settings) with no feedback of whether the application is operating properly. During updates the browsing and options seem to be inoperable.

Any thoughts, ideas suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated :)

Problems sending a feed by email

I run NewsGator Go! Java Version 2.2.7 on my Nokia 5310 XpressMusic.
After choosing "Send" for a feed and entering an existing email address, the program confirms me back, that an email was sent, but unfortunately I will never receive that email.
Please help!

Newsgator folks don't seem to be monitoring this forum at all. The only moderator level person to respond anytime in this forum in the past few months was Keith Franklin. He last logged in on June 19th and the ability to send IMs/emails through the board system are disabled for us lowly folks.

What used to be a good company with great support has recently gone downhill.

Invalid gzip format (SonyEricsson w880)

Hi,

In the last 6 months I have tried a number of times unsuccesfully to get the Newsgator Go! client installed on my SonyEricsson w880.

The most reason attempt was with version 2.2.7.

The installation procedure works fine, as does the log in. Once I log in it shows the titles of all of my feeds. When I click on one of the feeds to open it however, I always get the following error message:

20 Communication error: invalid gzip format (java.io.IOException: invalid gzip format).

I'm wondering if anybody knows what the solution to this problem is. I have installed numerous other J2ME apps on my phone, including Google Maps, Yahoo Go! and plenty of games without any real issue.

Ability to pre-fetch all feeds and then read them offline

Hello,

I really like the Go client on my Nokia N95. But I am missing one feature that I would really like to use.

When I am at the location where a fast WiFi network is available, it would be great if I could launch Newsgator Go on my mobile and tell it to fetch all the latest content for all feeds. Then, when I will have time and no WiFi around I could just read all the pre-fetched content without a need to connect to the internet at all.

I can see that there is a Flight Mode already available, but it doesn't seem to solve my problem (please correct me if I am wrong), since the client only tries to download the feed (or not) when I click on it, I can't find a way to tell it to download everything at once.

NewsGator Go for the Sprint LG Lotus

I installed the Java version of the mobile NewsGator Go on my Sprint LG Lotus but it does not work properly. I can read one article but when I want to go back to the previous screen, parts of the old screen are still there so that it is a mess of letters and numbers on the screen and nothing is readable.

Any suggestions? Fixes?

I noticed that I cannot assign permissions of "never ask" for internet access to the NewsGator Go! on my Sony Ericsson K790. I dug into the application properties and compared it against Opera Mini and Google Maps. The big difference appears to be that the NewsGator Go! bits are not code signed. For $100ish you can get a code signing certificate and seems like an easy win. Can we get this to happen in the next release?

'Next Unread'

It would be good if the result of pressing 9 was 'Next Unread', like in NetNewsWire, rather than going through the previously read items and then back to the list of feeds. It's really hard to read through updates to a few hundred feeds that each have one or two new items, at the moment.

LG phones with Newsgator Go! and Newsgator Online

I found two other threads in which people report problems with LG mobiles. I've just got a new LG KC910 Renoir, which on the whole is a great phone (though I've a nagging feeling that I should have got an iPhone instead - ah, next time...). But anyway, LG runs a proprietary OS, and although Newsgator Go! works in a fashion, it's unreliable and not very easy to use. And for some reason Newsgator Online returns a fatal error every time I try to login - I think this might be a certification error, and I don't think it's going to work no matter how many times I try. I think the problem is on LG's setup, and not with Newsgator.

However, the phone does have a serviceable RSS reader built-in, so I'm wondering if there's some way I could aggregate my unread items from Newsgator and then subscribe to that single feed on the phone's built-in browser. Can anybody help? Is this possible - and do you think it would be a workable way of reading my feeds on the go?

I have Netnewswire on my iPod Touch, but access to wireless networks is not as easy as connecting on my phone.

Newsgator Go acting strangely on LG CU500

Hey All,

Just discovered the newsgator online reader, and it has quickly become my reader of choice. Until October (blasted new iPhone upgrade policy!) I'm stuck with my java phone, a CU500 from LG. I downloaded the "Go" app so I could use my newsgator account.

Installation and setup went fine. it connected and got my unread count. That's where strange things started to happen...

As I clicked through to feeds and marked as read, the main screen wouldn't update. I would mark all as read, only to find that it labeled all my feeds as having 1 unread article. Clicking through to the feed showed nothing.

If I click the feeds folder to close it and expand it, I'll get different read counts on the feeds, which are not correct. I quit the app, opened it up and got nothing. Not even my feeds folder was visible. Closed it again and reopened - all feeds marked with one unread.

Any ideas here? Thankfully I can use the simple but always accurate online mobile reader at m.newsgator.com, which runs just fine in opera mini, but I'd love to use the native java app while I wait until I can snatch up the new iPhone.

I have a Sony Ericsson W960, operating in the UK on the Vodafone network. I downloaded Newsgator Go successfully. Each time I launch the program I receive a message that reads "A MIDlet in the untrusted MIDlet suite Newsgator Go! is attempting to connect to the Internet. Allow this?" The options it then offers do not include a 'allow for ever more' button. It would be good to know how to turn this off forever, but this isn't my principal query.

When I click a "Yes, this session only" button I see my Newsgator feeds all up to date and ready to go. But as soon as I click one of the feeds I either see a few of the expected headlines and then receive the error message: "21 Communication error: 0 (java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException: 0)", or it simply jumps straight to the same error message. Initially, this also sent the phone into 'flight mode', but I have successsfully turned that option off. However, I haven't been able to get any further. Anyone have any suggestions as to what to do next?

I'm so close to getting the benefits of news on the go I can't wait!

ps. I'm not a software engineer!

No Full Page on Sony Ericcson w850i

I'm using Newsgator Go! 2.2.7 on my Sony Ericcson w850i. It works fine except where full pages are concerned.

If I'm looking at an abstract (that is I've selected a headline) I see it OK, but when I select again to get the full page I usually get a blank page. Occasionally, I get an Error page saying "Error loading an article record: null address". What I don't get is the full page. Choosing "Update" lets me see the orange progress bar, but still no full page.

Once, I did get a full page (although I don't know how) and then I could consistently get full pages by going to the page after that and going PREV and then NEXT. This workaround is no use now since I can't get a first full page.

I'm working around this by showing the full page in the w850i browser which is not particularly good. I usually use Opera Mini to avoid it, but that doesn't seem to ne an option with Newsgator Go!

I've tried rebooting, re-installing, and fiddling with settings.

Can anyone help?

Trouble installing NewsGator Go for Java on Palm

I'm running a Verizon Treo 650, with IBM's newest J2ME up and running fine (I use Opera Mini, so I know it's working right).

If I go to [url=http://ngmw.mwap.at]http://ngmw.mwap.at[/url] via the default mobile browser, it says I can't install on a Palm via OTA (Over-the-Air). If I go via Opera Mini, it says I can't use that client at all.

If I go to the same URL on my desktop, I can grab the raw .jad and .jar files -- but how does one install these on the Treo? I can't use HotSync (not supported media), so I have to transfer them to an external card. But once they are on board, I still can't copy those to main memory. Is there a compiled .PRC file out there somewhere I can install?

I would use the [url=http://m.newsgator.com]m.newsgator.com[/url] if it had clipping functionality on the Palm, but otherwise, I have to stick with Google Reader Mobile or Bloglines Mobile so I can save and share posts while I browse... which stinks, because it's not synced with the rest of my Newsgator ecosystem.

What to do? .PRC anyone?

I would try NewsGator Go!

After installation (from the website) I go into applications folder on my Nokia N73 and when I "click" the icon of NewsGator Go! simply nothing happens!!!

Any solutions ?

is there any way to hide feeds that have already been read? While you can identify between read and unread feeds, I don't want to have to skip through feeds that I've already read (and want behavior like the full windows mobile NG Go app).

Would like the ability to toggle between displaying and hiding already read feeds

Uninstall does not work

I have tried many times, but every time it tells me that "NewsGator Go! cannot be deleted". This is when selecting the NewsGator Go Icon on my Nokia E50 and then using the "delete" functionality from the menu. I use this way because there is no option to uninstall within the NewsGator Go! application menu.

I have also tried other options, to delete all feeds first, to update before deleting the application etc. Nothing works.

This is annoying as I don't want to reset the entire mobile phone just to get rid of one application. :crying:

When opening a feed from the list of feeds, the list of items opens up with the cursor at the top. The new, unread items then load above that point, so you have to scroll up through the list to get to the top before you can start reading down through them. It would be good if the cursor could automatically move to the top unread item once they've loaded.

I've found that scrolling down through the list of feeds sometimes gets stuck and won't go any further down (though the cursor will go upwards again). I'm not able to reproduce it always so haven't got much more information that that, sorry, but wanted to report it anyway.

Feed update - unread items?

When feeds update, does Go! download the whole feed from the original source, or does Newsgator's server provide just the newest unread items?

I'm asking because of bandwidth costs which, with a lot of large feeds, could get quite high.

Note: Because of the name change, if you don't uninstall you will get a series of 5 questions during install that ask if you want to overwrite. You need to say "Yes" to each prompt.

Changes

- Fixed bug #406 - When Feed Tree is Expanded -- Post Counts Don't Change with Arrival of New Content

- Increased the maximum full story cache size allowed from 1024 to 2048

- Now use the "NewsGator Go!" name in place of "NewsGator"

- Took out debugging code

Older fixes:

- Blackberry: Fixed a thread deadlock that could occur during full story cache overflow cleanup.

- Reproduced and fixed a regression bug with the focus scrolling getting stuck.

- May have fixed the issue with focus skipping over (again). Please check it out.

- Fixed a bug where the feed hierarchy was getting expanded incorrectly when in articles view.

- Greatly improved the performance of expanding and collapsing folders, especially when dealing with large feed sets.

- Finally was able to reproduce an UnhandledException in the debugger (no it wasn't fixed before). Now it's fixed.

- Fix for the uncaught exception error. Please test and let me know.

- Fixed NoSuchElementException at startup on the Java build

I have the honor of being the first poster in the forum. Yay me!

I'm using a Nokia E61 via T-Mobile USA. I opened the NewsGator Go for Java welcome email message on my phone and opened the link http://ngmw.mwap.at. My phone automatically opens the connection via T-Zones (instead of T-Mobile Internet (EDGE) or asking me for another connection) and times out loading the page.

I can open the page on a Mac using Safari. I am presented with links for downloading versions for Blackberry or MIDP.

The download link for Blackberry works. The download links for JAD and JAR files send me to the home page of FreeRange, not to the software. Needeless to say right-clicking for "Save to Desktop" saves the HTML for FreeRange's home page.

Any suggestions on how to download the Java version?
