I have article previews and can clip for later, but maybe I'm thinking something different than you mean. I agree the newsgator iphone app is in need of updating. I'd love to see a new release.

RE: New Google Reader iPhone app

I gotta say, I was a longtime user of NetNewsWire, and then began switching back and forth between Google Reader and NNW, until after I got my iPhone. For the first few weeks of owning it, I used the NewsGator mobile web app, and was pretty disappointed.

You couldn't see the article previews, there was no undo option for anything, no function to save for later, no feed sorting, and no "mobilization" of opened feed items.

So, I switched to Google reader again, and the mobile client was considerably better, though not perfect. You could see unread items as a list, but could only look at their summaries/abstracts one at a time, and image viewing was poor. Even so, it was still better.

Now that Reader has a new iPhone version, I'm quite pleased that they've improved it across the board. You can read item previews inline, as well as chose to star, share, or mark unread all without having to reload the page. I can choose to view my feed items feed by feed, folder by folder, or just one big chronological rush. I get through my 125ish items a day pretty quickly, able to get through most of my browsing on my bus ride home, leaving the heavy reading for a real browser when I get home.

It's frustrating to the point that I've been trying to figure out if there's some kind of way I could sync/integrate Google's online/mobile supremacy with the elegance of NNW. That said, I keep wanting to go back to NNW, but I am repeatedly disappointed by the weakness of the mobile webapp offering.

New Google Reader iPhone app

I just loaded my feeds in Google Reader to try their new iPhone reader, and I like it better than their previous version, but I still like Newsgator's iPhone reader a lot better. After marking a feed read in Google's, you have to hit Back to get to the next feed in that folder. If you have only one updated feed in a folder and mark it read, you have to hit Back twice to get back to start page so you can go to the next folder. Maybe I was using it incorrectly, but that's way more taps than I do in Newsgator.
