Next Page Button Issue

I'm not sure if this has been found before so forgive me if this is a duplicate post. I'm running 2.6.1.3 RC 1, and have found that sometimes the Next Page button (Ctrl+D) will bring you to the last page of the current subscription as opposed to the Next Page with unread articles.

This appears to happen when I leave my screen viewing a particular subscription and there is an update to the subsciption (new articles) added before I click on the Next Page button.

FeedDemon 2.6.1.4 RC 2 errors out when using internet browser

When clicking on a link from a RSS feed to an internal browser of FeedDemon, then trying to close that page (by clicking the "X" of the tab) I frequently get this error (it can not send the error to you because it keeps erroring out)

2.6.1.3 RC1 refresh problem after "Deleted Feeds" message

I cleaned up some old feeds in FeedDemon on one computer today. When I went to two other machines and opened FeedDemon, I saw this:

I got a "Deleted Feeds" warning box about 12% of the feeds being deleted.
I checked "Save None" and then "OK".
The Update All Feeds Button changed to the circle-X and stayed that way. The feeds were not updated.
If I clicked the Update All Feeds button a few times, it changed back to the two-arrows, and did a partial Update. A few more clicks produced more of an update, but the circle-X button remained visible; the two-arrows version appears only briefly.
After exiting and restarting, the problem goes away.

All the machines are running 2.6.1.3 RC1; I did not see the 2.6.1.4 announcement until today. Since this is a one-time problem, I can't test it against 2.6.1.4, unfortunately.

2.6.1.4 RC2: Focus when feed has embedded Flash

I've noticed a problem a couple of times today. While reading feeds using the keyboard, I usually page down using space, then hit Ctrl-D to mark them all read and go to the next one. Today, a couple of times I had articles with embedded Flash movies, such as some of the ones in the the Comedy Central Insider feed at http://ccinsider.comedycentral.com/cc_insider/index.rdf. When I get a page of those, hitting space activates the movie, even if it is off-screen, instead of scrolling the text of the page. I'm using the Surfer style with full text and articles grouped by feed.

Layer ad problem

sometimes when I read some articles from http://www.dwdl.de/ in FeedDemon, I'll get an error.
I think these errors are caused by the layer ad and it's javascript.

In Options - Browsing... I have "open new windows" as tabs checked. Yet if I'm in a feed, or regular web page and select 'Open New Window'. The article or webpage opens up in Firefox outside of FeedDemon.

I'm not sure if this is correct or not?

FeedDemon freezes when opening it from the systray

When I start FeedDemon everything's fine, but once I'm done reading I like to minimize it to the system tray in order to keep updated about new items. If I open FeedDemon from there after a long time (say one day), it shows an empty (white) browser area, freezes the computer for about 5 seconds and then shows the subscriptions in the browser area. During the time the computer is frozen, I cannot move the mouse.

Is this reproducible by you and/or intended behavior?

I use th Cleanup Wizard weekly and it usually removes about 400 feeds. I installed the beta earlier this week and today used the Cleanup Wizard and....it says it cleaned up 2,400 feeds! Now that's a thorough cleaning.....:D

POSTSCRIPT: On the next feed update, FeedDemon pulled in a bunch of older feeds. I went through and read them, then ran Cleanup Wizard again. It deleted 97 items. For yucks, I updated the feeds. Same thing. It's pulling in the same old feeds and when I read them and clean-up, 97 are deleted again. In Options, all items are checked and it's set for 60 days and 100 items.

Multiple link rel="enclosure" elements in Atom feeds

Last week I began to explore how our feed could present multiple digital media files (mp3, really) in an RSS feed item. If you'll permit me to meander a bit...

RSS 2.0 allows one "enclosure" element, which led me to the Media RSS extension to RSS. That spec provides for multiple *content* elements (grouped or not) but so far as I can tell, only Firefox knows how to display them: FD acts as though they're not there, Google's Reader rebels by dissing the whole *item*, and Safari shows only the first content item. I figure there's little point in even testing IE.

So then I thought, let's check Atom--maybe that's a better spec. Sure enough, Atom uses a *link*-like approach to media enclosures. Firefox and Safari get it right, IE7 and FD show just one enclosure in an *entry* element, and I didn't test Google. A sample Atom feed with entries including multiple media files is:

FeedDemon 2.6.1 RC1 - "Less" link in Newspaper mode focusing problem

I'm using Surfer style in Newspaper mode. There's a very useful function in this mode: when I'm viewing a feed with a few posts, the newspaper shows the first few lines of the post followed by a "more" link. If I press the "more" link, the whole post will be expanded and there's a "less" link in the end of the post. However, if I was reading a very long post after expanded, if I press the "less" link, sometimes the post I was reading won't be focused(i.e. I will have to scroll the scroll bar to find the post I was reading). I hope the post title with summary will be focused back so that I don't have to scroll(Like in google reader, by pressing the "Enter" on key board, the post title will appear at the top of the reader pane). Could you solve this problem? Thanks.

I have been having issues with the updates this morning. FD keeps showing that it is updating (spinning icon on Subscriptions) and CPU usage goes up to 80-90%. The issue is that none of my feeds or clippings have a spinning icon and there appears to be nothing happening other than slowing down my PC. During the last "update" I tried to cancel the update and it did nothing. When I closed FD (using File->Exit FeedDemon) I received an error about FastMM issuing a call after it was closed. I did not save the actual message. If I receive it again I will add it to this thread.

2.6.1.2 Beta 3 - Thoughts about Keyword View interface

I accidentally enabled Keyword View and spent a couple of minutes trying to troubleshoot a "bug" where I thought the Subscriptions list wasn't updating when new posts were downloaded.

I finally figured out that I had a bad keyword term resulting in no feeds showing in the folder tree. This got me to thinking that maybe the Keyword View needs some polishing. Some ideas:

Check for matching keywords before closing the Keyword View dialog and display an error if there are no matches. It doesn't make sense to apply a view that results in zero items being displayed.
Do . . . something . . . to give a visual indication of the View that's currently applied. Is there enough room to the right of the Subscriptions folder, perhaps, e.g.: Subscriptions - Current view type?
Not as important, but I wonder if there shouldn't be some way to dismiss a current keyword view from within the Keyword View dialog, such as a "Clear" command? Probably not necessary if the first two suggestions are implemented in some way.

There may still actually be a bug, or at least a UI nitpick here. Though I'm not 100% sure about this, I would swear that the ! (no matches found) item under the Subscriptions folder wasn't always there when the bad Keyword View was applied, contributing to my initial confusion where I thought the Folder Tree wasn't updating.

Favicon in tabs sometimes random

Sometimes, I think especially after I open FD after it's been in the systray for a long time, the favicons of the tabs that were open this whole time are not the favicons belonging to the site. The favicons shown seem totally random (but the same for each domain). Today, some favicons are even showing as the WinZip icon - I'm quite sure I've never had a site open which is using a favicon like that and I don't have WinZip installed (?!).

New tabs, opened after reopening FD from the systray, show the correct favicons.

I believe this behavior was introduced with the first beta, but I'm not 100% sure (I think I read a topic about it before, but couldn't find it).

Feature Request: Hide Feeds

I have a couple of feeds which are ~95% "noise" on which I've set up a "Watch" for specific keywords to highlight the 5% of articles I am interested in.

I'd like to somehow only subscribe to the feed for the purposes of populating the "Watch" I'm interested in, somehow discarding the feed items which don't match the Watch or at least hiding the 95% of the feed articles I'm not interested in?

You could achieve the same thing with a per-feed filter that excludes feed items that don't match specific pattern but I figure that's more difficult to implement than somehow "hiding" or even just "auto mark as read" anything not matching a Watch or Watches?

Unless there are any tips to enable me to simulate this in the existing FeedDemon 2.6.1B3?

2.6.1.2 Beta 3 - Keyboard shortcuts getting intercepted in "Find in this Page"

Looks like single-key Standard shortcuts (vs. Newspaper ones) are getting intercepted when you try to type the character into the Find in this Page field. The two default ones, P and H, are doing it and I added a custom one as a test (A for Attention Report) and it was also intercepted.

Inconsistent image handling: Full and Summary posts

I'm using the Surfer style with the following feed:

When I choose Summary posts, the image appears neatly on the right hand side of the post. The image is enabled as a link to the post on the web site.

When I choose Full posts, the image appears at the left hand side of a black-bordered box that goes the full width of the preview pane, above the post text, and is no longer a link.

I can't see why this is happening - but it looks very odd. It would be better if the Full post layout treated the image the same as the Summary post layout.

This is with 2.6.1.2 Beta 3, but I have seen it in earlier releases.

2.6.1B2: Newspaper formatting issue with Surfer

With this beta, it looks like the format of the item header changed for Surfer... on the row below the title, where the actions icons are, it used to show the date/time, the item's author, and then then name of the feed the item appears in. This was useful when viewing a folder's newspaper because you knew which feed in that folder the item was from.

In B2, it looks like it's now showing the date/time, the author, and then reproducing the item's title instead of the feed name. Essentially, the title appears twice -- once at the top in larger black letters and again in the next line with the light gray text.

Add "Next Page" to bottom too

I usually tend to read long scrolls of posts at a time, so by the time I finish going through the content, my mouse is near the bottom of the screen. It's much easier to hit the "Mark Page Read" button than the "Next Page" button, even though "Next Page" is what I really want. Can you put a copy of that button at the bottom or maybe make the "Mark Page Read" button work like "Next Page" if you hold a modifier key?

Also, when I tried to look up keyboard shortcuts, I got really confused... the online help pane worked, but because I've got FeedDemon set to open links in my external browser, clicking on keyboard shortcuts seemed to do nothing instead of changing the page. Maybe the online help should be special cased to always open in FD.

FeedStation Queue not being retained

OK, I probably should have mentioned this issue like, oh, say SIX MONTHS ago (sorry :blush: ), but I have been having an issue where FeedStation is not retaining the queue of downloaded songs properly.

It will queue and download the song fine and copy it over to the folder, but when I close out of FeedStation and re-enter, nothing since 9/04/07 shows up.

[b]Edit:[/b] Ach - I figured out what's going on. I have the history set to 99, but it is not removing the oldest items first - it is removing the newest, and there are 99 between 12/05/06 (the earliest item in my queue) and 9/4/07.

Request: More options for Feed icons

I would like FD to implement the use of bitmaps (and various others) for favicons instead of only .ico files. Many of my feeds use favicons that are .bmp instead of .ico,.

Shared Clippings folders have an RSS icon on them but they use the NG sync icon in the Add to... clippings menu in the newspaper. Appears to apply to all styles. Non-sync Clipping are correct in the menu.

Open tabs from previous sessions shouldn't open in external browser

I love the option "Remember tabs between sessions". I also have the option "Open external links in default browser instead inside FeedDemon" enabled. When I now have some tabs opened and close and restart FeedDemon, all my previous tabs will me loaded in my external browser - shouldn't they get loaded in FeedDemon again?

News Item List font

How long has FD been using Arial Unicode MS for the News Item List? It looks really blocky and hard to read without font smoothing enabled and, even if it is...it's still kinda yucky looking.

fixing Focus Browser command

For the Focus Browser command (default is Ctrl+B; I made it F9), can you please fix it where the focus gets lost intermittently? I'm using the surfer style.

First, I wish that, when I clicked on a subscription folder, that it would automatically set the focus to the browser pane.

Second, you often have to keep pressing the keystroke to get the focus back to the browser. This, tied with where NG v2.6 frequently does a "not responding" while tagging articles to show in a new internal tab, makes this part of the app where you cannot trust that your keystrokes are doing what you intend.
