Version 1.10 is finally available on the AppStore. Haven't had a chance to download it yet. Fingers crossed it resolved the read documents not being deleted issue.

Could I just take the opportunity of saying how much NNW ROCKS! It's quite simply my most used iPhone app. Fantastic job.

Yep, I have the same problem as Steve, I also changed the setting as Steve did. But it didn't help. Is there a preference setting button on iPhone after the lastest version is in? or we need make the changes on webpages?

Same for me in 1.0.9. I have a dozen or so folders, all containing one or more feeds. When I read articles they never disappear but instead remain in their folder(s) only greyed out yet still available to be read again.

Also - and this is the [i]really[/i] annoying part - when every article of every feed in my folders HAS BEEN READ the feeds are still shown on the main NNW "Feeds" screen despite me having read every article they contain. Previous versions of NNW removed the feed from display on the Feeds screen after every article in it had been read. Which was really handy.

So at the moment my main screen has six or so folders with feeds I've read entirely (and therefore have no unread count shown alongside), together with another six folders where I've yet to read articles and the feeds are also shown along with their unread count.

To sum up; all feeds remain on my main Feeds screen no matter whether I read their articles or not. I've checked that "Only show folders with unread items" is selected via the Newsgator web interface.

Totally agree about how great Netnewswire is -- both for Mac and iPhone. And we all probably do need to relax a little but. But look, in the grand scheme of things (as you put it), everything is trivial -- this entire software package is trivial, as is the iPhone and the Mac. That does not mean it is not appropriate for people to point out (perhaps even vociferously) when there is a serious bug in a piece of software. Truly great software is something of a double-edged sword, because people integrate it into their lives. That is the ultimate compliment to a developer (I think), but the flip side is that it becomes incredibly frustrating when something that you rely upon every day suddenly stops working without any reasonable explanation. I think that is why this generates so much emotion.

Brent, thanks for the update. Everyone, Netnewswire is by far the best RSS reader out there. Personally, it's my most used app on my Mac, and iPhone. I use the online version almost as much when I'm at work on my Windows PC.

On a side note, we do need to learn a little patience. In the grand scheme of things, this is pretty trivial.

It won't - the keep unread item setting works just fine, and seems to be deleting read items as well.

I have to agree -- this is a pretty big problem with the interface. I would venture to say that for many (depending on how you tend to use the app) it makes NetNewsWire virtually unusable. I know things like this happen -- and it is understandable (though I really cannot see how this would not have been caught in testing unless not a single one of the testers opted for the "never" setting). But the lack of communication is really the part that is inexplicable. There should be some response, announcement, or reassurance that this is being addressed and that some update (or downgrade) has been submitted. Waiting for Apple is one thing, but as far as I can tell, the developer has not even submitted anything for us to wait for.

I know developers can put notes about their apps in the store. I've seen many devs post notes about updates they've submitted but that haven't gotten released by Apple yet, expressly for acknowledging current bugs. Why doesn't the develop posts a note letting folks know there's a bug? It would seem a better relationship choice than standing idly by while folks who don't read this forum continue to "upgrade" to a buggy release.

The instructions for downgrading to 1.0.8 didn't work for me. Can someone post a more complete description of how to do this?

This bug is so annoying, and it actually gets worse every day: more and more read articles pile up in my feeds list, my estimate is that there are currently a couple hundred. Unfortunately every day we have to wait this pile is just going to get bigger and more unwieldy.

I too am having the same problem. No matter what you set it to (never, 4 hours, 2 days, etc) the articles never go away. Hope this is fixed soon. Not sure how testers could miss something like this?? Pretty sure I would have caught that if I was testing the app.

Seeing as the bug occurs the first time you use it, the testers clearly did not test it and yes, it is hard to scroll through the extra articles because the newest ones are not always at the top.

They were only rushed because the clippings bug came up after they were in progress. I know how much of a pain it can be to patch old code, and I expect that was why Brent released the planned 1.1 as 1.0.9.

Something this obvious should have been caught before it was released in the first place. They should take an extra day or two to verify that things work as expected.

If this release was just to fix a clipping bug then just do that. Don't bundle untested features with a quick fix. Hopefully the AppStore will give some developers a better discipline when releasing things since they just can't post quick fixes for things.

This illustrates the inherent flaw in the App Store. Even if a fixed version of the iPhone app was uploaded by the NNW folks today, it cold take weeks before it shows up in the store.

I'm glad I checked the forum, and will ignore the updated app prompt on my phone.

To revert to a previous version;

Look in your iTunes folder then Mobile Applications Folder. You may find numbered version of NetNewsWire 1, 2, 3 etc. The highest number is the most recent. Move the earlier version to your desktop then delete the most recent version. Copy the desktop version back to the folder and restart iTunes.
