NNW isn't working properly after I upgrade to leopard. It crashed sometime while clicking on the header to read link.Anyone facing the same problem ?

So I break down and paid the $10 even though I was a paid NNW customer before it was made free. Now the current version won't check for updates and tells me to check my internet connection. VT says there is a 3.2.1 version available. Is NNW going to start charging for even minor updates now? Paying twice for an app is one thing, but to immediately have all upgrades blocked is pushing things a bit.

With the release of [b]NNW 2.0[/b][b] for iPhone[/b] I have decided to stop experimenting (for the moment to see if the iPhone client continues to be developed and isn't [i]seemingly abandoned[/i] like the last version) and go back to [b]NNW[/b] on [b]Mac[/b] and [b]iPhone[/b] exclusively. The main obstacle now - annoying but relatively minor bugs aside - seems to be the lacking of [b]syncing Starred items[/b] to and from the desktop version. Any news on this feature being implemented (I've given up holding my breath when it comes to NNW)?

Otherwise is there a work around?

Wondering if Flagged Items are two-way syncing with Starred Items in Google Reader for anyone? I'm running 3.2b24/3229

If not - is this a planned feature (as it is in Feed Demon) because it's what I use to mark items to read when I get back to my desk.

Convert 'plist' to 'OPML'?

Hello, I just upgraded my OSX to enable using NNW 3.2. This procedure automatically synced me to my very old Google Reader, deleting 2.5 years of lovingly compiled NNW feeds.

I noticed that in the ~/library/application support/newsnetwire there is a backups folder — brilliant! However, it seems to be in 'plist', and Reader asks for an 'OPML' file to import feed subscriptions. I cannot figure out how to convert 'plist' to 'OPML' after 2 hours of googling and reading. The only online reference I have found I cannot make work (http://code.google.com/p/safarifeed2opml/). Would anyone have any ideas?

I was not a subscriber to NewsGator online, so I cannot look up any old OPML file.

Unable to delete a folder

I do not seem to be able to delete a folder I've created. When I choose "Unsubscribe" and click the Unsubscribe button the folder looks like it disappears. Then, about 5 seconds later it recreates itself.

This is an empty folder with no feeds. I'm running the latest beta, NNW 3.2b28 (this behaviour was also occurring in previous beta versions).

Please help!

You might ask: "Why move the forum?"

While we would have been happy to host this forum forever, I *personally* don't like web-based forums. I've been using this system for four years and have never been really adapted to it, and so my own participation is nowhere near what I'd like.

But I do *great* with email.

So the cool thing about Google Groups is that you can choose: use the web, use email, or both.

Shared feeds

I'm having trouble with shared feeds (NetNewsWire 3.2.1). Firstly I can't see any way to add news items to my shared feed.

And the shared feeds I have subscribed to aren't showing up in NetNewsWire at all. I have checked google reader and I am both following and subscribed to the rss of another person. I have a folder set up "Shared Feeds" and one subscription inside of this. The folder shows up in NNW but it is empty. Shows up fine in Byline on iPhone and Google Reader itself but the same place in NetNewsWire is empty.

NNW becomes unresponsive after launch

Hits 100% CPU usage (on one core) shortly after launch. It doesn't let up. The application is unresponsive an I have to force quit. It happens within about a minute of reopening. I can email an apple crash report privately, but can't submit from inside the app because it becomes unresponsive too quickly. No interaction is required to cause this. No tabs are open. the CPU starts to climb about 15 seconds after starting the application, maxing out one core within the next 10 seconds. I have let it run for several minutes with no improvement.

Not all feeds, just some, sporadic.

Some diagnostics:

Crashes every time start app

Suddenly all of a sudden the App freezes within 10 seconds of starting and then after about another 20 seconds the app crashes all together... I tried emailing support@newsgator.com over a week ago but haven't gotten any response so trying the forums... anyone else having this problem or know how to fix it?

1.) Wanted to "Export Tabs" -- feature is now missing. Wtf!?
2.) Can’t check for updates; function tells me "Update error!"
3.) Have to "Refresh All" more than 4 or 5 times to get all feeds updated.
4.) Syncing w/ Google Reader is NOT working properly.
5.) Syncing via FTP: dead. Killed that feature. Well, ok: it didn’t worked well - not because of the user setting. No. Because the dev couldn’t make it work. I think the sync problems (no matter if you use GR or FTP) is the main problem child of NNW.

[b]What did you expect to happen?[/b]
1.) Having the possibility to export my tabs.
2.) Getting the info if I’m up-to-date or not.
3.) "Refresh All" = "Refresh All"
4.) Syncing. Just pure and working properly syncing. Best way: SFTP/FTP; second: GR.

If I want to recreate the problem: just use NetNewsWire.

Using Vienna and www.heise.de the date/time is correct. Manually changing the updated-tags in the heise.de feed-XML-file into published-tags NNW shows the correct date/times.

Feature Request: Hide Empty Feeds From Expanded Subscriptions List

Just moved over from Google Reader less than a week ago and loving NNW so far. The keyboard shortcuts are great and overall NNW is definitely to Google Reader what Mail is to to Gmail's web interface; as I'd been told to expect.

There is one missing feature in comparison which keeps bothering me though.

I like to have my subscriptions kept in folders, but I like to keep those open so I can easily see who has updated what without needing to delve into the compound folder view (which both NNW and Google Reader would give you on the right if you click on the parent folder instead of an individual feed).

Using NNW like I do – all folders opened up and feeds ranked by number of posts – is really good, with one omission. I'd like to be able to hide subscriptions which don't have unread posts *in the left subscriptions list* as well as in the right hand folder view.

Is there an underlying issue which makes this hard to implement?

As far as I can tell, there's a 1:1 mapping between every feed you have and it being displayed in the subscriptions list (collapsed folders notwithstanding). Would altering this with a hide action break a neat symmetry which keeps the app's internal design clean?

Note: I really like being able to see previously read items inside individual feeds. They're really useful for catching up on a running story you may have forgotten from someone who doesn't update much. What I'm looking for is a way to control the *overview* rather than to obliterate everything which has been marked as read from the entire system.

I just installed 3.2 beta and now i am *forced* to look at the ads? That's on top of switching to the Google Reader, which does not even work with iPhone version of NNW.

I do not know who told you what, but i am not willing to pay for NNW yet AGAIN! I already bought it once, then i paid and upgrade price, then it went free and now back to paid version, so i have to pay just to be able to remove the stupid deck ads?

lost all my subscriptions! Why? and Help!

I have been using NNW for what seems like ever. I am on Mac OS 10.5.8 and have NNW 3.2. I have opened it some time in the past couple of weeks, but I don't remember exactly the last time. Tonight, I clicked the little "rss" icon in my Safari address field to add a blog to NNW.
NNW Opened and I could see all of my subscriptions as well as the new one. I chose where to put the new one. Then noticed that it hadn't updated all of my other subscriptions. So I clicked "Refresh All". And they all disappeared.
Ack!
Can I get them back? Where did they go? What did I do wrong??

Clippings deleted with update

I don't know when or exactly how, but my Clippings have disappeared and I would love to get them back. They were lost in the past month (probably 2–3 weeks), either between reinstalling and restoring my Mac after a couple harddrive failures, or by an update to NNW.

Even though I don't know which caused the loss, it still doesn't make sense that I can't get them as I have 20 days' worth of backups in Time Machine. I've copied the ~/Library/Application Support/NetNewsWire folder, but my Clippings never reappear.

Is something just not 'clicking'? Does a preference file need to be copied maybe? I'm pretty sure I had my Clippings somewhere within the range of my backups...

Post to Facebook

Currently, I can right-click on a feed entry or Web page, and post it to Delicious, a blog, or to Instapaper. I would like to be able to do the same to post to Facebook. Currently, I right click to open the page in my default browser, then use a JavaScript-based "bookmarklet" to post to Facebook. It's kind of a bother.

I would like to see this built into NetNewsWire. But also, I would like there to be a way to add bookmarklets to NetNewswire, such as by dropping the JS into a folder somewhere and having a new entry show up in the right-click menu.

Didn't command-W close tabs?

Up until recently I was able to use command-W to close and individual tab. Now that key command closes the window and there is no key command to close an individual tab.

When was this change made and how can I change it back?

desktop NetNewswire image caching?

I am not sure if I am blind or just missing a setting switch somewhere, but I have been looking everywhere in netnewswire desktop version 3.2b14 for image caching functionality.

I use my laptop to read news and look at image roll sites while offline, and I can't seem to be able to make netnewswire to download all images within posts for me.
all I end up with is a bunch of broken image links.

is this a feature netnewswire currently has or is this a future one?

it would greatly increase the value of this tool if it currently doesn't.

growl notifications for selected feed items needed

i have some low volume but business critical rss feeds that i'd like to sticky growl. right now RSS Growler http://osiris.laya.com/projects/RSSGrowler/ can do this, but i'd rather keep all my feeds in one app. RSS Growler has a "List feeds separately in Growl preferences" option which i think fits the bill exactly. any chances of this ending up implemented in netnewswire?

Google Reader Sync Issues

So I'm trying out NetNewsWire (v.3.2) for the first time in a really long time. Google Reader synchronization was a big selling point for me (mostly because I figured that if I had the same blog in multiple folders, I wouldn't have to mark each copy as read, which I have to do in every reader but Google's).

However, I seem to be having some more fundamental sync issues. When trying out NNW, I exported all my feeds and then imported them into NNW which I have syncing to a (then) empty Google Reader account. [b]But NetNewsWire only seems to pull in the feeds that have new items?[/b]

This is rather problematic, since I was trying to organize my feeds then in NetNewsWire, but new feeds kept popping up in old folders because they weren't there previously (because they had no new items at the time). And, naturally, it seems to make a mess of Google Reader, since feeds with new items are in a new location, but feeds without new items are still in the old.

Is there some way to force a full sync of subscriptions with Google Reader?
Also, how does NNW deal with multiple copies of the same feed? Does it do what Google Reader does, and reflect the read status of one on the other?

This is all complicated by the fact that I just haven't been able to find any significant documentation on how Google Reader Sync should work, and what I would intuitively expect to happen...isn't.

Toggling Google Reader Syncing for existing feeds

When you add a feed, there's a checkbox, "Sync this feed with Google Reader". Unfortunately there doesn't appear to be any method to change this setting after the feed has been created.

The NetNewsWire help document only references NewsGator syncing, which is a bit disconcerting.

Any way to change google reader settings for existing feeds?

NNW problem

I'm not sure what happened yesterday, but all of a sudden NNW 3.2 started using up to 100% of the CPU and I had to force quit. According to Activity Monitor the memory usage soars, so I simply can't run NNW any more. I've tried rebooting, repairing permissions, etc, to no avail.
Am I the only one having this problem?

How to COMPLETELY wipe old NNW and reinstall

I've used NNW for years. For some reason, the new version does not display certain feeds (Daring Fireball, for instance) even though the feeds are coming in correctly. Individual post have no data.

I've been able to prove with certainty that this is local to just one Mac. All others that I have access to work fine with 3.2.

But, when I attempt to wipe out all vestiges of the old NNW on the troublesome Mac, and install the new version, it still shows the problems with certain feeds. I've wiped prefs, I've dumped the Application Support folder for NNW. I've even created a new OS X user account. All with the same bad result.

So, clearly there's something bad hanging around. Any clues as to all files I should remove to be sure that the old NNW is gone, gone, gone?

How do you completely remove NetNewsWire?

NetNewsWire froze on my system yesterday, and has not been able to work properly since. By not work properly, the application will come up and start to sync. It will then freeze within three minutes. Spinning beach ball until forced quit.
I am running Snow Leapard on a Mac Pro, in 64 bit mode. I am running 1Password.

I am taking the first assumption that a data file it relies on is corrupted. Attempting to remove and reinstall the application. I believe I am missing a few files when I go on my deletion spree, as reinstalling the application shows that the feeds are all still known.

I am removing:
/Applications/NetNewsWire.app
/HOME/Library/Application Support/NetNewsWire

What am I missing here? The plan is to remove NetNewsWire, reinstall it, and tell it to sync with Google RSS feeds.
I am running 3.2a btw. Ran most of the betas, and have been running the program since I was a paying subscriber for the past couple of years.

viewing in net news wire

not sure how to best explain this, i have an RSS feed that tells me if someone leaves a message on my website. I occasionally copy and paste this info from newswire but just recently the lower half of the window only shows me the first word of the message and i cannot find anyway around this. Anyone help with this :-) ??

NNW 3 and Syncing (again)

When I sync NNW 3 (latest version) the feeds are not updating as read/unread. So I'm "reading"/marking as read the same feeds twice (home and work). This is quite annoying. Feeds and tabs appear to be syncing, just not what's been read/unread between each computer. I've also tried deleting preferences and files from the server and still get the same result.

Any thoughts on this?

Also, like others have mentioned, it takes [b]FOREVER[/b] to "sync" (which it's not even doing). I have almost 500 feeds and takes [b]well over a hour[/b] to sync. Wasn't like this before with 2.x.x.

Mac won't go in suspend mode with NNW 3.0

You can download the 10.4 compatible version of NetNewsWire, which also includes FTP and MobileMe synchronization from the NNW Beta weblog:

Newsreader malfunction

I am using Netnewswire 3.1.7 ( I use OSX 10.4.11 and cannot upgrade to 3.2)

I have been following recent announcements about newsgators discontinuance of on online synching support but I did not think this affected me.

I began using Netnewswire with my G4 Quicksilver and synched via online account to my macbook. I have not been using the G4 for some time and I connect only the macbook via Wi-Fi.

Could I be in a synching without my knowledge? Would this explain why I am no longer receiving feeds? If so, how can I fix this? I have signed up for a Google Reader account and exported the feeds to it but I am puzzled why Netnewswire no longer works.

PS. Is there any way to export the Clippings and Flagged items from Netnewswire to Google Reader?

Sorting problem

In some of my feeds, it seems that new posts are not sorted to the top, it gets tiring searching for the little blue dots to see what new posts have been made.

Anything I am doing wrong, or a new preference I have overlooked? Thanks!

Unanswered Bug Report - KCGErrorIllegal Argument

Is anyone else seeing this in their console log?

I have reported this several times, through NNW, and never received any acknowledgement, nor feedback from NewsGator...

This problem fills up the console log with multiple entries per second.... And ends up driving me crazy...

It's customer service like this that makes me think about not re-purchasing NNW, and finding something else...
