How about that iPhone app NetShare (something like that) that lets you connect your laptop to the Internet via your iPhone?

I'm running LittleSnitch, but as this is a laptop that I use at home I already have it configured to allow NNW any connection.

Are you running anything like Little Snitch or NetBarrier or any other software that might possibly block NetNewsWire?

Hi guys,

When trying to read my feeds the whole list cycles through near-instantly without downloading anything. No error message is given.

Connection test gives:

I’m behind a proxy which requires authentication; the username and password are set at system level in System Preferences > Network > Advanced > Proxies. Keychain never asks if NNW can access the proxy info though.

NNW: 3.1.7b7
OS: 10.5.5

Any ideas?

I have the same problem, here is the same situation.

If I try to sync with newsgater it fails.
If i turn off news gator sync it fails
I can open a new tab and browse the web
I can browse to HTTPS addresses such as https://services.newsgator.com

The connection tester says this.

As you can see this is very strange. Things had been working fine until recently. I am unsure however when this started.

It also appears that the proxy is denying all SOAP calls - That is usually a configuration error at the proxy end.

On top of that it is not allowing access to the HTTPS (secure http) channel, usually port 443. It is most likely trying to get to https://services.newsgator.com

I suppose it could just be a username and/or password error. Have you double-checked that these are correct?

403 means "sorry, you are not allowed to access this"

Maybe the proxy is denying access to http://services.newsgator.com? That would explain why NewsFire works, I'm sure NNW would work too if you disabled synchronising to NewsGator.

The fact that News Fire works doesn't really help us until we know what is causing the problem... It's kind of like saying my car is broken but my friends car works - it doesn't tell me why your won't run ;)

I don't know. This is my work computer and it's a large company. As I said, News Fire works OK.

Do you have access to a system running 10.5.x on the same network? If it works correctly in 10.5.x, but not on 10.4.11, that would be important data.

The 407 code means that you have an authenticating proxy. What version of NetNewsWire and what version of Mac OS X are you running?

This is what I get - see attachment. It's strange as I've tried [url=http://www.newsfirerss.com/]NewsFire[/url] and that works but I would rather use NetNewsWire on my Mac at work. I don't have administration access to install Authoxy :(

I'll try to give this a go – but it looks like it's designed for proxies which require authentication, which mine doesn't (as far as I know!). I'll let you know how I get on, anyway. Thanks very much for your help.

Try a program called Authoxy, install it, input your proxy settings into it then use localhost:8080 as your system pref proxy.
Should work fine :)

Hi, I have the same problem setting up synchronisation. I have OS X 10.5 and use a proxy server. I'm getting error 403 instead of 407, though.

I have the exact same problem (Mac OS 10.5.1, NetNewsWire 3.1.1). The feeds download fine but when I try to set up syncing I get the "407" error. The syncing works fine on my other computers so I can only assume this is a proxy issue? Any fix in the works?

At work, we use a proxy server for internet access. When I try to turn on synching via Newsgator, I get the following error message:

I'm pretty sure this is a proxy problem, as it's common among other Mac applications that connect to the internet. I'd suggest allowing us to set the proxy server manually in NNW, as can be done in FeedDemon.

Assuming this is not some other problem, of course. I'm on Mac OS 10.4.11.
