The same happens here! It worked fine (and automatically) with v.2, but now (v.3.1.6) it keeps adding topics that count more than 12 000 in "latest news". I have changed the preferences for "archiving" back and forth, between "…until they disappear…" and "…for at least 2 days" - with no results! The number goes up every day!

What should I do (or what am I doing wrong)?

On the iPhone, there are settings for NetNewsWire in the Settings app -- you can tell it how to long to keep read items and how long to keep unread items.

Hi. I am having the same question. Unread items keep adding and I cannot find a way to configure a limit no matter whether read or unread items. This is no problem in the desktop version on my Macbook Pro but gets my iPhone 3G so busy so that I have to wait too long for NNW to open on the iPhone... I have checked keep news items until they disappear and the show items limit is set to 20 items. Do you have any solution?

Has there ever been a resolution to this question? I just started using the Newsgator syncing and now NetNewsWire seems to hang onto articles forever. For example, I am subscribed to Yahoo News (http://rss.news.yahoo.com/rss/topstories) with the persistence set to "Items disappear when they disappear from feed", but it is now up to 540 posts, which I'm sure is a lot more than are in the feed itself. This only started when I turned the syncing on.

An average of 46 items per feed is a bit high. (For me, with the same settings as you, I average 20 items per feed.)

My suspicion is that some per-feed/per-group settings may be odd. Could I get a copy of your subscriptions list file?

It's hard to help, because I'm not really sure what you're seeing. Would you do me a favor and choose Help > NetNewsWire Use Report, then copy-and-paste the results here? This will give me a good idea of what's going on.

Thanks for the reply. I am using News Gator for sync. I didn't use the news gator sync feature until I updated to NNW 3. I have it set to "until they disappear from the feed" for Keep news items in NNW.

A couple questions:

1. Are you using NewsGator syncing, or other form of syncing?

2. What are your settings for keeping items in NetNewsWire? Open Preferences, click on General, then click the Archiving tab. Next to "Keep news items in NetNewsWire" the active choice should be "Until they disappear from the feed." (This way items will disappear more quickly.)

Greetings everyone,

My subject line probably doesn't describe my issue properly. I was previously using NNW 2.1, as I didn't really need to upgrade. A feed would have a limit of say, 15 unread items. When new items would come in the oldest of the 15 would drop off and be replaced by new items, but the total number for the feed would never go over 15. This was not something I did, it was native to feed. Some feeds had limits of 20 items, some 50. but the item count would never go over those limits.

When NNW went to a free version I upgraded to the latest version. 3.1 (now 3.1.3) Now my feeds download items without a limit. feeds that never went over 20 items now keep adding them. I was on a trip for a week and some of my feeds have hundreds of items. The item limit was great because it allowed me to have a lot of feeds (currently over 200) and be able to manage keeping up with them. Now, I don't even want to begin sorting through al of these feeds. which has me thinking about another aggregator. This bums me out because NNW was the best one out there, but when I go away for a few days and come back to 7000 items I just throw my hands up. Does anyone know how to set unread item limits like NNW used to do automatically? Not sorting this out could send me packing. Cheers in advance for any help.
