| A lot of the WeblogsInc blog feeds are bringing up duplicate posts for me in the past two days, in particular TUAW (#14778), Download Squad (#196040) and Engadget (#12926). I've checked the RSS feeds and they seem to be fine....

I think the problem may be that some feeds are updating their RSS items, adding Google Ads. When I'm on BlogLines, most feeds have a "Posted on:" date/time, but the Engadget and Download Squad feeds all have a "Posted on:" AND an "Updated on:" date/time.
Plus, I don't recall the Google Ads being in the feeds before...

| Well if it was an ads problem it would be a one time duplication when the ads were removed or added. The ads have been there for quite a while now so that definitely shouldn't be the problem...

I think Nick identified this as an issue in the blogs themselves.I'm seeing the same thing with Weblogs Inc. feeds, and it looks like the problem is the feeds themselves.
The way RSS works, each item has a guid, which is supposed to be a unique identifier - ie: each item should have a different guid. However, the Engadget feed is changing the guid, so that the same item will have a different guid when the feed is updated.
For example, the first time FeedDemon retrieved the Engadet item titled "2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser will feature NXT flat speakers," its guid was http://www.engadget.com/2005/12/28/2007-toyota-fj-cruiser-will-feature-nxt-flat-speakers/. The next time, though, the guid was http://displays.engadget.com/2005/12/28/2007-toyota-fj-cruiser-will-feature-nxt-flat-speakers/. This will cause RSS readers (not just FeedDemon, but other ones as well) to duplicate posts, and it will continue to happen until the feed publisher fixes the problem. I checked my own subscriptions and I'm seeing exactly this problem in Engadget, but I don't see any duplicates in TUAW.
