Hi,
I use Homesite and moved to it from AceHTML pro because of its bugs. I've become a big fan of HomeSite, even if it is outdated and not supported by Macromedia/Adobe. It is Great work (hat tip to N.Bradbury) and I'm sure most html text editors were influenced by it.

Now, I really want to use TopStyle pro because of its css, xhtml integration and up to date code -

So, some questions:
Can I customize my xhtml tags?
Can I add tags or buttons like I do in Homesite?
Can I have snippets of code?

Are there any other tips or tricks (or a resource online) to emulate the "Best of" Homesite?

I understand there won't be a quick tables or quick forms but can live without that.

-cheers!

It's been a very long time since I used HomeSite, so I may not be the best person to suggest how to make TopStyle more like it, but I can address your specific questions.

Can I customize my xhtml tags?
I'm not exactly sure what you mean, but if you mean can you add to, change parameters of, etc. the XHTML definitions, the answer is yes.

TopStyle stores it's definition files in C:\Program Files\Bradbury\TopStyle3\HTMLDefs. I recommmend keeping a backup of any modifications you make since future installations of TopStyle could overwrite any of the default filenames.

Can I add tags or buttons like I do in Homesite?
Again, not completely clear, but if you mean can you add a P tag button to the TopStyle toolbar to add <p></p>, no, you can't do this.

You can however create your own keyboard customizations and keyword replacements to achieve the same type of results. Take a look at Options | Keyboard Shortcuts | Custom Text tab and Options | Editor | Auto Replace.

Can I have snippets of code?
Yes. Snippets are stored in the Clip Library - View | Panels | Clip Library Panel. The Clip Library objects can be added to a page:
- By double-clicking the item
- Clicking and dragging
- Using Quick Insert keyboard shortcuts

To create a Quick Insert, right-click anywhere in the Clip Library panel and select Configure Quick Insert...

Thanks Jack. I'm still undecided. However, I'm begining to really enjoy the extra functionality of TopStyle Pro when working with CSS.

I'd love to have the functionality of HomeSite 5.5 and TopStyle Pro combined without having two separate apps open.

I think I'd miss the "Quickbar" in homestyle and the ability to add tags to it. I'm past the point of wanting to type <p></p> or <div></div> (for example) as needed and haven't used a wysiwyg in 5 yrs. I like html editors.

TopStyle pro could compete in the market, esp if Adobe doesn't improve HomeSite...

You don't have to type those out. TopStyle supports keyboard shortcuts that will add those tags for you. For example, Ctrl+P will wrap any selected text with P tags. You can add your own shortcuts for DIVs, etc.

I rarely type out full tags myself.
