I switched over to intraVnews yesterday to test out its features, I quickly moved back to NewsGator as I feel it’s a lot quicker at retrieving the same amount of feeds and generally a lot slicker. Great work guys! However the one option I liked in intraVnews was the clean-up utility that will run in the background and delete posts that match certain criteria i.e. date posted, date downloaded etc. I know you could do this with some work on Outlook auto-archive function, but it’s about the only tithing I think intraVnews has going for it over NewsGator. BTW any news on what we can expect in the next version... Edit: Whoops I just noticed I posted this in the wrong section. Sorry!

Thanks for the great feedback! On the clean-up thing, do you feel like Outlook's auto-archive functions are insufficient for what you want to do? As for the next version, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. We should have some announcements in the next couple of weeks - stay tuned!

To be honest I haven’t really taken the time out to investigate turning on auto archive on the folders. Up to now it had been a manual process for me. Marking all items as read using a search folder, then using the same search folder to delete all posts every now and then. I just feel that is nice to have all the possible features built in to the program. Ideally a mark all posts as read button, and delete all posts button would make my day. As I have read elsewhere in this forum, this can be done via some VB macros, but it would be nice if somehow it could be integrated into the NewsGator toolbar. I am going to give the auto-archive a go, and see if it does everything the cleanup in intraVnews does. Just wanted to let you know how great this program is, and how happy I was to pay the registration fee. Keep up the great work!

Toby, Just a quick note on one of the features you requested... "mark all as read". If you "right-click" on an outlook folder, you'll see an option to mark all the items as read. It doesn't work for subfolders though. As you suggested, you'll need a macro for that. The option is also availble from the edit menu or Ctrl+Q. Hope that helps, .savas.

Greg, The problem I have with the outllook AutoArchive solution is I want to delete messages in my News pst file folders only. AutoAchive will let you set a solution but it is across all folders within Outlook. I only want to delete News. The only solution I have found is that you need to right click on each and every sub news folder and set its autoarchive properties. I have not found any way to set autoarchive for just my News pst file at the top level and not be bothered with the 230 folders. No, I don't want to put all my feeds into a single folder. No, I don't want to have to right click on 230 plus folders to set autoarchive and then remember to do the same for every feed I add. If I'm missing something in Outlook please clue me in. Otherwise, yes, I would really welcome a nice clean solution that I'm sure you could provide. Tim

Yes I know I mentioned that in my second post. I use an Office 11 search folder to list all items in all news folders, and do a mark as read from there.

Yeah, it's a shame that there doesn't seem to be a way to recursively apply auto-archive settings...and further, there isn't (at first glance, I'll have to look into it more) a way to control these settings programmatically. I've put a note about this on the list of possible future enhancements...
