NetNewsWire (2.1.1b1) constantly consumes about 3% of the cpu of my iMac G5. It fluctuates a tiny amount, but is most often right at 3%. Of course the usage goes up when it's checking subscriptions for updates, but I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about its using cpu when it is apparently doing nothing. Why would it need to constantly use such a large amount of the cpu?

Whenever I've seen this, it's the result of a browser page that uses JavaScript, Java, or plugins (such as Flash).
You might try going through your tabs -- you should be able to find the page that's using the CPU. You might also consider disabling JavaScript and plugins, to prevent this from happening in the future.
