| A few months ago, I installed an earlier (trial) version of NewsGator Go! on my Windows Mobile 5 Pocket PC device. I liked the application's feature list, but it kept crashing on me. I reported the problems on this forum. One of the suggestions was for me to prune down my feed list until the application no longer crashed. Unfortunately, my trial ran out before I could do much troubleshooting. I thereafter uninstalled the application. This week, I purchased and installed the latest version. I'm still having problems, even with only five or six feeds, totalling a few hundred entries. Sometimes the application will simply disappear and unload upon returning from my viewing a feed's entries; sometimes it will disappear when I press the Sync button. Other times, an error message will appear similar to this one: A native exception has occurred in NGMobilePPC.exe. Select Quit and then restart this program, or select Details for more information.
Pressing the Detail button oftentimes causes the error dialog to disappear and then returns me to my Today screen. Now that I've pruned my feed list down to a minimum--and I have the non-trial version installed and therefore won't run out of time to troubleshoot--what can I do to help resolve these problems? The product has great potential; I just wish it would be more stable for me.

Which device are you using? Can you please send me your OPML file to support@newsgator.com? We will run your feeds though a debugger to see if maybe one of them is causing this problem.

| I forwarded my OPML file (generated from within FeedDemon) to support@newsgator.com. I'm unsure why the OPML would have a bearing on this problem. Out of the few hundred feeds represented in the OPML file, my "NGMobile-WM" location has only five of the feeds selected, namely: I'm running NewsGator Go! on a XV6700 Windows Mobile 5 Pocket PC phone. The application and data files are stored on a miniSD card. I appreciate your help with this problem, as it is making the product practically unusable for me. Thanks! Chris

Thanks for sending in your OPML Chris... my initial thought that some unexpected data in one of your feeds was causing the problem... I'll load up your OPML and see if I see anything. If that's not the case, I'll keep digging in. Thanks for your patience Chris.

| Kevin, do you have any updated information for me? I'm still hoping to use NewsGator Go! on my Windows Mobile device.

Chris, I do have some updated info... I am waiting on a new server build to be tested and deployed and that should take address the issues you are seeing.
This fix will be in the next beta and also will likely warrant a fix release for the existing version. That will be available soon.

| Thanks, Kevin. Could NGG stability be negatively affected by the amount of free Storage and/or Program space? My device has Total Storage space of 43.50MB, but is frequently near full. My device has Total Program space of 49.20MB, usually with about 8MB free. It's my understanding that the OS is supposed to intelligently manage these memory pools, within reason. I have to admit, however, that I don't know much about these two memory pools. Last week (but long after NGG began crashing), I inexplicably started receiving 'Low Storage Memory' messages from the OS. Sure enough, Total Storage Free was 0.0MB. I uninstalled a few programs. Since then, NGG has been surprisingly stable. While using NGG, I've noticed that Total Storage fluctuates between 1.4MB and 1.6MB free.

Chris, Go! caches your feeds and the feed content down to your device so that you can still access your content when you do not have a network connection. That is most likely the culprit leading to low memory and the resulting behavior you are seeing.
Most Windows Mobile devices have support for some form of external storage. I would recommend looking into options for your particular mobile. I have a 1 GB mini SD card that I use to hold my feed content and also sore podcasts and photos. Definitely look into that as it will make your mobile much more functional and help Go! run better too
If you need some assistance with picking a good external storage option for your device, give a holler.
