Not sure exactly what to title this post, but in version 3.0.1b18, my Smart Folders are working well. However, there is one discrepancy I'm noticing.

For example, I could have a folder called "smart folders". Say it contains 15 different smart folders, and that they have various numbers of unread items. The total number of unread items (22) appears next to the containing folder, "smart folders." What I'm seeing is that this tally (22) is correct, but if you click on the container folder, "smart folders," NNW displays a random number of previously read news items, not the actual unread items contained within.

Is this something that is my fault or is it potentially a bug?

Thanks,
Andrew Elliston

The first two of three attached screencaptures visually demonstrate what I think you're reporting. In the first one the unread count is correct when the parent group is selected. In the second one the unread count is incorrect when the subgroup that contains the Smart Lists is selected.

And the third one (which I created a few minutes ago; the others are older) demonstrates a problem with the unread count disappearing when the subgroup containing Smart Lists is selected. And what you don't see is that there are "0 news items" visible in the news item listing.

This is with 3.0.1b18 and I don't think it was a problem in 3.0 until 3.0.1b17 reverted back to the one-file-per-feed storage system.

Thanks for all the details - I've created a bug report with both sets of comments and the pictures (102094)

Thanks! If I notice any other symptoms that seem related to this I'll mail them to support with the bug ID.

Keeping Smart Lists in a folder within the folder those lists are matching is probably not such a smart (ugh) idea.

I've been waiting for months for this bug to be fixed. I have smart folders inside an enclosing folder, and while the inside smart folders work fine, the enclosing folder only works once after a restart of NNW. It was assigned a bug no. way back when, but nothing has happen since. This is a really nice feature (that used to work) and severely limits the way I work with NNW. I would hope for more responsiveness from the developer.

I've been waiting for months for this bug to be fixed.

Uh, huh.

… and severely limits the way I work with NNW.

That's how I feel about an unfixed bug that I recent attempted to get bumped up in the queue by submitting screenshots.

I would hope for more responsiveness from the developer.

I haven't seen any obvious pattern of priorities for fixing bugs and implementing features (aside from what's been explicitly announced, e.g. recent Combined view updates). Bug/features submitted years ago of relative significance remain unchanged while lesser issues reported more recently get attention. As I've said before, the uncertain status of bugs/requests tends to be more frustrating for me than knowing something is unlikely to be fixed/implemented. The former breeds anxious anticipation; the latter a sense of closure (and a subsequent for long-term workarounds, if I don't already have 'em).
