I'm running a Verizon Treo 650, with IBM's newest J2ME up and running fine (I use Opera Mini, so I know it's working right).

If I go to http://ngmw.mwap.at via the default mobile browser, it says I can't install on a Palm via OTA (Over-the-Air). If I go via Opera Mini, it says I can't use that client at all.

If I go to the same URL on my desktop, I can grab the raw .jad and .jar files -- but how does one install these on the Treo? I can't use HotSync (not supported media), so I have to transfer them to an external card. But once they are on board, I still can't copy those to main memory. Is there a compiled .PRC file out there somewhere I can install?

I would use the m.newsgator.com if it had clipping functionality on the Palm, but otherwise, I have to stick with Google Reader Mobile or Bloglines Mobile so I can save and share posts while I browse... which stinks, because it's not synced with the rest of my Newsgator ecosystem.

What to do? .PRC anyone?

Thanks!
Paul

I spoke with the developer about this situation. He said that he has considered clippings functionality in the Mobile HTML reader, and may implement that at some point in the future.

We do not have a reader for the Palm at the present time, but we may have one some time next year.

Keith,

Thanks for looking into it... however, being stubborn, I did get NewsGator Go installed on my Treo 650 after a few hours of research on the forums (ended up having to email myself the .jar file and then the J9 Exchange recognized it as an attachment on the Palm). Nice trick.

Now, I get the error "No license key associated with user" which is fair because it's a trial ... So how to I enable my trial? Note, I am trialing FeedDemon as well at the moment (it's all or nothing); might that be an issue?

It also says "11 Communication error: Could not establish connection: 64.78.155.120:80 - socket closed by peer (0x1214)". Is this related to the above error?

Thanks for any insights, I really appreciate it.

Cheers,
Paul

Send an email to support@newsgator.com and I will hook you up with a 30-day trial. I'll need you to create a NewsGator Online account first. Please tell me what the username is and reference this thread.

Does your Treo run Windows Mobile by chance? I have another user with a Treo 750 who is running the Pocket PC version of NewsGator Go! for Windows Mobile.

Just to let you know guys, I've been working with the Java version for the past 2 week with no problems on mi Tungsten T3 (yeah I know it's old, but still does the trick eh?). I was unable to make the direct download with any browser (it installed, but every time I ran the Newsgator, it would crash with a Fatal Exception), and then I remembered that the IBM Java Enviroment I have came with an extremely jar2prc application (and a jad2prc app, just in case. This worked like a charm.

I tried the JAR --> PRC converter that came with the IBM Java tools, but to no avail. I wonder, if we convert it to a PRC, would it run off a SD memory card?

For reference, here's the process I used to get it up and running:
* Install IBM Java Virtual Machine (J2ME) from your PC
- http://www.palm.com/us/support/jvm/
* Install NewsGator Go! For Java on your PC
- visit http://ngmw.mwap.at, and click 'download files for desktop sync'
- download 'NewsGator.jar for MIDP 2.0 phones (English)'
- since the phone won't recognize this file natively, you then need to email yourself the .jar file from a desktop email client
- then, open the attachment from an email app on the Palm OS (Snapper, Chatter, etc), which will open via J9 Exchanger

I've noticed that in the global java settings (IBM icon), you can't set it to high resolution for NewsGator, needs to stay low res. And it helps if you bump up the memory allocation setting all the way up (I think 1MB?).
