I am using NNW (3.1b21, but the problem has been happening for a long time) to follow Atom feeds on a password-protected server on my company's intranet. NNW prompts me for the password for the feeds fairly often (but not on every refresh); when I look in the keychain, the password is there. And when NNW prompts me for the password, it does display the proper userid.

The userid is my intranet email address, which has a '@' in it (as well as several periods) -- could that be causing problems? The password has no non-alphameric characters.

Try this:

- Go to Applications/ utilities/Keychain Access.app
- Search for the XMLUrl of the feed, and you should see an entry that is an "Internet Password"
- open the entry and go to the Access Control tab. Make sure NetNewsWire has access

If it does, try removing NetNewsWire's access and re-adding it.

OK, I did it; I probably won't know if the problem recurs until tomorrow, as I usually only get prompted once a day per feed.

In case you see something else suspicious, I've attached before and after shots of the Access Control tab -- the "before" is "Picture 2.png" and the after is "Picture 3.png".

Thanks!

Additional info -- right after I made the change, I got an update on NNW. After accepting the update and getting the prompt to change items in the Keychain, NNW's version in the Keychain now shows as "unknown" again.

Very interesting!

When you first start NNW after a new version and Keychain prompts you for access, I assume you are telling it to allow all?

Let's try this:
Delete your current NNW app and empty the trash - make sure there is no trace of the app left except for the user files. Redownload the latest beta from the

OK -- I deleted NetNewsWire from /Applications; I deleted the relevant items from the Keychain; and I emptied the trash. Then I downloaded the newest beta from the beta site, copied it to /Applications, and fired it up.

I was prompted twice for one feed of the four protected feeds I follow, and not at all for the other three. I had just gone through a feed refresh cycle with the old copy of NNW, so maybe that's relevant.

The item in the Keychain for the protected feed does show the most current version number for NNW.

I'll let you know what happens as time goes on.

Can you see if the NNW version number has disappeared from the keychain entry?

Since this seems to only be happening to you, I have to think something in your keychain is a little screwy - can you try this test:
- Create a new user profile on your Computer
- Install the latest version of NNW 3.1 beta to the desktop (it'll be easier if we just leave it there), but don't install any other programs
- Put in a few of your credentialed feeds, and a few regular ones into NNW (you don't need your whole subscription list)

We'll see if the same thing happens in the new profile.
