Here's a scenario that I'm thinking about trying, and I'd like to get an opinion about whether NewsGator can handle this.
I have my NewsGator base folder at work on an Exchange server. I can access that server from home through IMAP. I can access the base folder and see the posts just fine. However, it would be super-sweet if I could somehow install and use the NewsPage at home, while keeping all of the downloading and subscription management happening at work. Can NewsGator support this configuration? Two key questions I thought of are:
1) Would I need all of the subscriptions defined at both at home and at work? In other words, will the NewsPage only display information for feeds that are registered as "subscribed" in NewsGator?
2) Does the NewsGator license allow for me to install it both at home and at work? Or would I need to buy another license?

Hi Kevin,
This _might_ work. You could indeed install NewsGator at home, and configure the NewsPage to point to the IMAP store (KB article here). The part that might not work well is that the NewsPage uses some user-defined fields on the posts when rendering, and if they're not there, the items might not appear correctly. It should still work - you might just be missing the feed names on the post excerpts.
To answer your specific questions:
1. The NewsPage doesn't care about the subscriptions - it only looks at the items within the folder you specify.
2. The 1.2 license specifically allows use at work/home, as long as only one copy is used at a time.

| Thanks Greg. I'll give it a whirl. As for the field issue - are user-defined fields are not accessible via IMAP?

| Oops, sorry - I never finished that thought! I'm not sure if they come through IMAP or not.

| Well, I finally got around to trying this. No love. I was able to point the base folder to my IMAP folder, but the NewsPage wouldn't show anything, even though there were new posts. Not sure how to debug it further.

Wow, I was just thinking about this this morning, and wondering if you'd tried it.
I'll create an IMAP account on our system and see what's happening. Thanks for the update, Kevin!

| It seems to work ok for me here. I did notice some strangeness with some posts not showing up as unread, and other posts having an extra deleted copy, but the NewsPage definitely worked...

Somehow I knew you were going to say that.
I'll take another stab at it, and see if I missed something.

| I still haven't been able to get this to work. Greg, can you clue me in to how you had your test setup configured? I've tried it with posts stored in the base folder as well as in a sub-folder. Either case, I can't get the NewsPage to show the new articles. Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot the problem?
