| Does anybody know if the email edition is still working? Is it free along with all of the other rss readers? I'm trying to set up the email edition to download as pop in gmail, but the server is denying my access. Can anyone help??

Can you elaborate on what you're doing and the steps you're taking to do it?
Your post is a little confusing - it is reading like you are trying to set Gmail up to access the Newsgator email edition, which is not possible, since Gmail is not like a local client which can access any number of mail servers - with Gmail (and most webmail services), you're limited to Gmail's service only.

Thanks so much for responding, critter42. I'm afraid that you're wrong about Gmail - it is capable of downloading up to 5 other email addresses via POP. See http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&ctx=mail&answer=21288 for more details. Gmail does offer a free email address, but their webmail interface is effectively a web-based email client.
So with that, the way you read my posting is correct. I don't believe that it is gmail specific as I've tried to set up a apple mail.app (os x 10.4.11) POP account for email edition, and had no luck. In this case, in setting up the account, the attempt to log into the pop server fails.
I should add, that my account is free, created shortly after Newsgator and NetNewsWire were released as free a couple of weeks ago.
Please let me know if you have any information for me. Thanks again!

huh...I went looking for that info when you initially posted, but the only hits I kept getting said that it didn't support other accounts. ok C'est la vie
Well anyway, I just added it and it is working fine here.
What I did:
1. I used {username}@newsgator.com for the email address in the first box when adding a new gmail account.
2. pop server is pop.services.newsgator.com. Username/Pass is the same User/pass you would log into NewsGator Online. When Gmail asks if you want to send mail as that email address, I said No.

I did exactly what you did, and I got:
Server denied POP3 access for the given username and password.
I'm definitely using the right username and password, so the answer is still unexplained. Please keep trying to help if you can. It helps to know that it is working for somebody, as I was worried that this service was no longer available at all...
thanks
