Hello,

I'm a new user of TopStyle.

I'm working on a site that requires all paths be coded to the root directory. (ie: /images, /index.html, /style.css etc)

I've tried to setup the site in TopStyle a dozen times, and specified the root directory, and TopStyle never recognizes the root. So none of my pages can find their css styles or images within the program. I'm not generally a Dreamweaver user, but did a test in that program, and Dreamweaver mapped to the root without a problem.

I also am never able to access those site settings again once the site is set-up.

Can someone please help? I think this is a great program, but I'm really frustrated that something so simple isn't working. And I can't find anything in the Help information -- except that it sounds like the program should be able to find the root.

Thank you in advance,

Craig

What values are you using for your site configuration? What are the paths, etc.?

To change a Site's settings, click File | Recreate Site...

Hi,

Thanks for the info about "recreating the site".

For my latest test, I pulled the site onto my local machine (from my network). So it's on my desktop currently. The path in the Root Folder field is:

C:\Documents and Settings\Craig\Desktop\build

Thanks,
Craig

Hi there,

I'm still trying to solve the problem where the TopStyle preview can't find the root directory.

Can anyone offer any suggestions? Please?

Thanks so much,

Craig

I must confess I don't understand what you are trying to do.

Do you mean ./images or ./ or ./style.css but this would fail since on a local computer it would relate to the document root, typically the head directory of the hard disk.

Topstyle supplies the relative paths to the document root, treating as the document root the head directory of the site; for example ../../images/image.jpg or ../../ or ../../style.css for a document at the third level.

If the problem is viewing using a local server, it may be necessary reset the document root in the servers config file. In any case the  path from the document root set in the config file of the server needs to be used when creating the site.

Ignore if not applicable

Hi,

I'm probably not asking the question in the correct way. I'm attaching 2 screencaps (jpgs) which I hope will demonstrate my problem.

The first is a screencap from Dreamweaver (on my Mac). This shows the site "set-up window" with the root path specified. It also shows the split screen view with the code above and the site previewing correctly below -- the preview is finding the correct root path.

The second screencap is on my PC with TopStyle. This shows the site "set-up window" with the root path specified. Beneath that it shows the code above and the TopStyle preview below -- which is NOT displaying correctly because TopStyle can't find the root directory.

Perhaps TopStyle just doesn't allow you to work this way, but I believe it should from the info in the help directory and from messages that pop-up that refer to the root.

Thank for your help.

Craig
