In my blog last week, I asked for advice on a new name for FeedDemon's "Next" button.  So far I've received over 40 replies, and there have been a number of good suggestions.  If you have a preference for a new name, please vote in this poll!

Next is fine for me. The tooltip explains what it does in more detail.

Btw my FD setup is pretty simple. I have 'Next Unread Feed' mapped to CTRL+DOWN and the number of items in my newspaper is set to 100. If there are multiple pages (very rarely) I have CTRL+LEFT and CTRL+RIGHT mapped to previous page and next respectively. Works well and makes using FD with the keyboard nice and easy (for me anyway).

I tend to surf FD while lying on the sofa with the keyboard on my chest

I actually voted for Mark and Go even though Speed Read was my suggestion on the blog. It seems more descriptive without needing to learn app-specific jargon.

Sorry to see that the utterly simple "OK, Next" was not included in the poll.

Whatever the label, I'd like the same function to be in the lower-right corner of the Window where currently a button provides the "Mark Page Read (Ctrl+M) function. I can't think of a use case for this function. Read (Ctrl-D) is far more useful, but I prefer the lower position when I'm using a mouse.

I tried this a while ago, and it just didn't "feel" right.  Although it makes sense to place the button adjacent to the next/previous page buttons on the lower-right, I found it far easier to access when I put it above the browser.  I guess in my case, I never use the page buttons - I just hit "Next" to move to the next page.

You might be right, though, that it would be better to replace the "Mark Page Read" button with "Next" even if it already appears above the browser.  I'll try this out and see how it goes.

I wouldn't put the button on the outer-most edge of the app window. At most I'd place it to the left of the existing three statusbar buttons.

Hmmm...given that keeping the name the same received such a large number of votes, perhaps a new name isn't the best idea.

That was only approximately a quarter of the vote, and it could be argued that most voters are already familiar with what the button does. Turn that on it's head and your reaction might be different.

I don't think any other name is going to be "better". How about adding [Previous]?

Food for thought.
