Hi there,

I do have constant performance problems with specific sites, the most annoying:
www.onlinekosten.de

which I use for getting internet and IT news.
As I skim through the new news items and open single items in a new tab, often FeedDemon "hangs" / freezes and I have to wait some 20 seconds (sometimes less, sometimes more up to several minutes!) until I can do anything again.

Might this be a FeedDemon related issue? I don't think it is basically caused by the "mass" of news items, as I never had problems with Google News, or other rss-feeds. (I'll add "freezing feeds" here as I stumple upon them...)

Will there be an improvement in performance in the new FeedDemon v.2.6?

Kind regards.

What happens when you open the questionable sites in Internet Explorer? if the hang happens there as well, it's out of FD's control - it's an IE issue.

How should I be able to correctly reproduce this problem in IE7? As I never open / effectively CAN'T ever open as many tabs in Internet Explorer 7 (I can't, as there are no shortcuts like in FeedDemon and no "Drag de Go" like in Firefox/Flock. So I don't know how to reproduce this.).

But the fact is: There is no tab content freezing, just the news feed site or effectively whole FeedDemon.

Of course, FeedDemon seems to (additionally?) have problems with Adobe Flash or Quicktime, as I'm almost sure, that this is a main performance leecher. Also the fact, that some Quicktime stuff tries to hack itself into autostart / registry (which is blocked by Spybot Search & Destroy every time) might be an additional building brick in the whole picture. (To be more precise: This Adobe Flash and/or Quicktime behaviour is only present when surfing www.onlinekosten.de)

What will be, when Internet Explorer 8 releases? Will there be any changes? Or is FeedDemon build on a static IE?

I hope that helps?

Kind regards,

Philipp Grunwald

You have a site that is causing problems. Open that site in Internet Explorer. Do you see the same issue that you described in your first post? The "newsfeed site" is still a website, after all.

As for IE8, the way Internet Explorer works is that any application that uses an embedded version of Internet Explorer uses the same version that is installed on the system, so if you upgrade to IE8, that's the version that is going to be used by the application. For instance, my FD install is using IE8 (I'm using IE8 beta).

Any Flash/Quicktime content is handled by the embedded browser, not FeedDemon -it's containered in FD, but again, we need to see what happens when the same site is opened in IE.

Critter, I fully understand your point! But please try to really understand, what I wrote!
If you know Internet Explorer 7 well, you know you can open tabs, but in comparison to FeedDemon not that fast and that many. Or is that just an issue on my PC? ^^
You can see at that very first point here, that it can't just be IE that causes the problem. Because then FeedDemon wouldn't work most of the time. So maybe it's just IE's fault -.- IE 7 is really slow and instable on my PC, regularly crashes after having opened several tabs (more than ~ five, less than 12). So I don't use it normally.

In IE(7) you also don't have an extension like "Drag de Go" (please check it out, if you don't know this one yet! You won't want to miss this one out again as a additional bonus! ), so I think this error isn't reproduceable this way!

The other question would be, if you experience IE 8 beta to be more stable then IE 7 (standalone) and/or IE 8 beta integrated into FeedDemon? If you give me a positive judgement, I'll try IE 8 beta to solve my problems.

Concerning Adobe Flash / Quicktime: I'm not really happy with that, I might look in the forums there, don't know why this is a constant error and annoyance source! Currently videos are displayed without controls. I always use the lastest versions, but it constantly bugs me with errors anyway.

No, I do NOT recommend installing IE8. It is very unstable and is not ready for daily usage - the only reason I installed is because I have to support end-users who may have installed it and needed to be familiar with its behaviors/looks so I can tell while troubleshooting them if they have installed it (at which point I would tell them we cannot support beta software, then tell them to remove it, reinstall IE6 or 7 and THEN call me back ). The browser I use on a daily basis is Firefox 2 (tho' I am debating moving to Flock).
