http://blogs.newsgator.com/support/2008/05/redirected-word.html
At around 10:40 this morning, feeds being retrieved from WordPress returned a permanent redirect command, sending them to the default WordPress feed.
The system checked to ensure that the new endpoint was a valid feed, and then applied the redirect. It appears that several hundred feeds have been effected at this point.
We are working to reverse the redirects, and should have that done soon. We won't be able to remove the incorrect posts from the feeds, so if you see something that appears to come from a different source, please mark it as read.
I've experienced this myself so I'll post back once I see my subscriptions cleaned up.

(Using NNW 3.1.6 on OS 10.4.11, no syncing.)
About 75 of my feeds are now hosed. In the Info box they're showing "http://en.blog.wordpress.com/feed/" instead of the feed URL. Do I need to go through and fix them all manually?

No. The Newsgator team should be going through and fixing all of them once the issue with wordpress.com is resolved.
Please note that I am not actually employed by NewsGator, and my opinions should not be taken as their official stance on any matter. I'm just a happy FD user (since pre-1.0 alpha in 2003) helping out where I can.

| Is that still going to work if I don't use Newsgator syncing? (As far as I know, I don't have a NG account at all. I've been a user of NNW since way back.)

ah, sorry about that - I misread your post.
Unfortunately yes you'll have to fix that manually, although I'd wait until NG reports the issue is fixed otherwise it might just happen again. Feeds appear to work fine for me atm but I still wouldn't trust it.
This is, I guess, a case where sync is a good thing.

If you don't use NewsGator syncing, you could restore from a backup of your subscriptions list.
Here's what to do:
1. Quit NetNewsWire if it's running.
2. Go to your (Home Folder)/Library/Application Support/NetNewsWire/ folder in the Finder. Put Subscriptions.plist in the trash.
3. Open the Backups/ folder at (Home Folder)/Library/Application Support/NetNewsWire/Backups/
Find a copy of your subscriptions list that's dated from before this happened.
4. Copy that file up a level, into the (Home Folder)/Library/Application Support/NetNewsWire/ folder. Rename the file to Subscriptions.plist.
5. Launch NetNewsWire. You should have your subscriptions back.

Thanks. I have my own backup also. Was hoping there would be a way that wouldn't wipe recent changes.
Can you please explain who made this colossal stuffup? Was it Wordpress staff? The claim that only "several hundred" feeds were involved seems unlikely given that I had nearly 100 affected.

| It was a bug at wordpress.com that caused this. It was sitewide issue so the support post obviously had a bit of PR spin; by the time the announcement was made the NG team had scripts running to keep the number around a few hundred but there are stacks of blogs hosted at wordpress.com. If you were subscribed to 100 feeds from there then all 100 were affected.
