I was wondering if there are any potential circumstances I might not be considering if I move FD's cache directory to an external drive, thereby being able to take it with me while travelling without having to do a tedious copy back and forth at departure and return.

I'm aware that the actual app will need to be installed on each machine, and that some config may(will?) not be moved along. I'm fine with that.

Thoughts?

Actually, more people than you might think do it that way (less now that synching's available, but I imagine there's still a good number out there). The only thing is IIRC, FD needs to be shut down when the thumb drive isn't available (and I think the drive letter needs to stay the same for simplicity's sake). People who actually use thumb drives for cache can give better answers, of course (Jack, didn't you use to use a thumb drive at one point?)
