Starting to look at what a 3.1 version of Inbox would look like. My ideas are to redo the NewsPage and maybe add tagging.

Would you all use tagging in Inbox? How would you envision it working? Would tags map to Outlook categories?

What would you like to see in a new NewsPage?

I told Nick a while ago that I was going to post some thoughts and I'm finally ready!

My history
Long time NGI user (even paid!).  I've looked at a couple of other tools, but having Outlook integration is a huge benefit more.

Setup
Windows XP.
Outlook 2003.
No Newsgator Online integration.

Likes
Outlook integration (duh).
No extra processes running.
No extra icons in the system tray (unless I want them there).
I also like being able to hack ngstyles.css so that I can use some smaller fonts. (Concerned about this not working in Outlook 2007 with the Word 2007 HTML viewing thingy, but I could be wrong since I haven't had to worry about it).

Dislikes
Right now, I can't right click on a feed and add it (Resource Not Found error).
Even if I could, you can not select what folder it goes into then.
I'm never quite sure when to shift-update or control-update or shift-control-update to reset a feed. (perhaps you can do one of those buttons with a drop down on it to select which update you want.
I wish that there was more granularity in the alerts, especially for the connection failure. I don't really care about occasation failures, I need to know when it's more persistant.
Test Drives have never worked for me. I *love* the concept, but I've never been told that the test drive is ending (even pre-NGI 3).

No opinion
I never use the news page, Newsgator Online, cleanup wizard or the attention data.

Suggestions
I like the FeedStation integration, but I'd rather have NGI download the MP3s for me automatically.  However, I would want this at a scheduled time like FeedStation.
Previewing feeds, unless it would require another process to be running.
For the 2-3 feed that require it, I'd love to have the option (key word: option) of using cookie authentication.
Manage My Subscriptions and I have never gotten along.  I miss the pre-NGI 3 interface where I could explicitly set which folder the feed goes into.  Feed to folder management is the one area I think needs a complete rewrite.  It's too hard to drag and drop to reorganize feeds, and even then you'd have to manually add it to the parent if you want some aggregation.  (I've seen how NetNewsWire does grouping on and I like that, but I'm sure that wouldn't work in Outlook).
