I recently installed Newsgator Go Mobile (version 2.0.0.25419) on my Omnia (SGH-i900; firmware i900DXHK3/DZHK3). My subscribed feeds are read well; I am able to see a list of recent articles in every feed. But then, when I try to open one of the articles to read it, I cannot do it... the envelope remains closed and I do not see any change on the screen.
Maybe I am missing some point here... but I have no clue how to progress with this problems. Can somebody help me?

I know the Omnia doesn't have a traditional directional pad and select buttons like most Windows Mobile devices and I'm afraid that currently NewsGator is often better being like this even on touchscreen devices however I hope I can offer two alternatives to help you.

1) On a touchscreen device when you get to the article list I often find you need to 'double tap' in quick succession to open an item (First click will highlight the item and then second will do the open command if down in quick succession) Although if you've already got an item showing as highlighted (grey background to that item's bar) then 1 click should open that item

2) Try going into your Windows Mobile System settings and finding the settings related to onscreen pointer vs D-Pad behaviour. If you set this back to a more traditional Up/Down/Left/Right behaviour instead of Glidepad/Virtual Mouse default behaviour. That way you should be able to use your glide pad as if it was a directional pad (Many other custom WM programs may also work better in this configuration)

Not believed related to your currently problem, but v2.1.2.1 of NewsGator is currently being promoted to the latest official version of NewsGator Go, and I'd definitely recommend running this version as it fixed a number of significant bugs.

Thank you for your reply.... only unfortunately it did not help much further.

I tried to play with the mouse settings, but that did not improve anything. It seems impossible to highlight the article titles, so that opening also won't occur. What could be the reason for this?

I downloaded the program through my phone from m.newsgator.com/d and got the mentioned version. the 2.1 version did not occur in my download. Could this be dependend on the type of phone or should I install it through ActiveSync?

Sorry, I replied too quickly. I installed the version 2.1.x, but that did not improve anything.

Being able to highlight the articles is definately required to being able to then open them, but not sure why you're having that problem. On my WM6 touchscreen device it's a simple click on the item bar to highlight and then a second click on any highlighted item to open it.

Can anyone here with an Omnia comment on this?

At the moment v2.1.2.1 is only available via download from this forum through that post I linked by Nick Harris, a NewsGator developer. It's due to officially replace the older version sometime in the next week, without any other changes being made, so you're welcome to download and try it from the forums and won't have to re-install once it's available officially.

If you want to access your feeds on your mobile device while waiting to find a solution to your Newsgator Go client issue, don't forget you can go direct to http://m.newsgator.com and login you can read all your feeds from there, although the experience isn't as rich as via the client as you can't read offline, or use clippings, which are two of the download client's best features.

Sorry I can't help more directly, but this seems to be an Omnia specific issue so without an Omnia to test I'm not sure what else to suggest except trying the v2.1.2.1 client.

I have the Samsung Epix and have the same/similar problem.  Win Mob 6.1, latest newsgator.  It comes up and shows my folders and feeds.  I click on one and get a momentary flash of something on the left side of the screen.  I also see that the scrool bar on the right is 1/2 visible.  I then get the items.  At that point, I can click on any of them.  That is, I move the mouse over one item and click - nothing at all happens.  So, it is completely non-functional.

Any ideas?

Hi Scot,

Looking at the details of the Epix that too has a "optical mouse" rather than more tradditional directional pad Windows Mobile most devices previously came with. Sounds like NewsGator isn't playing very well with this alternative selection method although I'm surprised you can't still double tap on the screen to select what's underneath, the mouse pointer must be interfering in some way.

As Newsonaut could you try going into WM overall settings menu and changing your mouse pad behaviour back to the tradditional method (without the mouse pointer onscreen) and see if that helps.

That would at least confirm and isolate the problem and I could then highlight to others that onscreen mouse pointers cause problems at the moment and hopefully then ask to get that on the wishlist for a future NewsGator Go client?

According to the screenshots on http://pocketnow.com/index.php?a=portal_detail&t=reviews&id=1106&p=3 It looks like you need to go into Start > 'Settings' menu item > 'System' bottom tab and there you should find a pointer related icon. Go into there and set the option back to '4-way Navigation' instead of 'Mouse' and see how that helps.

Please let me know on here if that does or doesn't help?

Alan

Alan,

Great idea - I should have thought of that one!

Answer:  It *did* work when I went to the 4-way navigation!  I then closed the application, and just to humor myself, I turned the optical mouse back on, started the application, got to the same items, double clicked (and single, and triple, and just held) and it failed like before.  So, you are correct that newsgator does not handle the optical mouse.

Another tidbit:  In my earlier posting, I mentioned that there was a flash of something on the left side of the screen from top to bottom (where a scroll bar would be if it was on the left side), and that the scroll bar on the right was 1/2 cut off.  This did not happen in the 4-way navigation mode, but did return when I went to optical.  So, there might be something with how it handles the screen.

As you would suspect, when I went to m.newsgator.com in IE it worked just fine, of course, the interface is not very good.

Bottom line:  You got it correct.  Optical is a problem and there might be something else behind it with the flashing on the left side (might it not "know" where the mouse point is?).

I guess we try something else.

Thank you, Alan.

Glad to hear it worked for you Scot, and thanks for coming back and confirming your findings with NewsGator not handling the newer Optical Mice pads properly.

Obviously I guess it's down to how much functionality the mouse pointer mode gives you in other programs whether switching to 4-way navigation is a suitable workaround for you, but at least it gives you the option of using something richer than http://m.newsgator.com if you are willing to change that setting permanently.

I'll make sure it's on the known issues list for this client version so hopefully it'll get fixed when/if a new version of the client is released (at the moment NewsGator doesn't have a developer actively responsible for our WM client unfortuenately )
