I have run into this following issue for quite some time now, and it REALLY bothers me:
Whenever I launch NewsGator without using some app that starts a data connection before, NewsGator tells me that I do not appear to be connected. Technically speaking, I am indeed not in those instances, but just as the Messaging application will initiate a connection once I ask it to send and receive my e-mail messages, I would like to see NewsGator simply making the necessary request as well.
The only workaround I have found so far is to launch an applicaton that will need to establish a data connection for NewsGator to be able to work with that existing connection afterwards.
Any hope this will be fixed anytime soon?

Unfortunately development on NewsGator Go! is kind of in limbo right now, but I'll add a bug report for it.

That sounds a little worrying... as you have a great service here with just a few kinks!
Most WM apps seem to be able to make a connection by themselves so presumably (without being a WM dev!) there is a standard function that can be called in to do the connecting?

| I was just going to suggest that I know that some people wouldn't like NewGator auto connecting data sessions all the time as I know from this forum there's quite a few people not on unlimited data plans that instead sync at home/etc via WiFi and then use Newsgator as an offline reader. Perhaps a comprimise that should also be easy to develop would be that if a user has asked for a sync and there's no current data connection the current dialog that pops up would just be enhanced so instead of the current 'Connection error' text and single Ok button there would be: 'No current data connection detected. Would you like to start one?' YES NO If YES selected then start a new data session, wait a until session is established and then auto run Sync
If NO selected then drop back to home screen as currently NewsGator already has a Yes/No dialog coded if you ask for confirmation prompt before sync. For reference at the moment I tend to either click refresh on my Weather app or start Pocket IE with google as my start page to quickly establish a data session before sync'ing but agree it would be better if NewsGator had an in-app option. As Nick said however, at the moment there are development resourcing issues within NewsGator so there isn't currently an active roadmap for WM NewsGator development, which is a great shame seeing as the platform and interface choices are generally well developed with relatively few rough edges left.
