Sometimes when I'm reading a feed, I'll leave some items as unread because I want to come back to them later when I have time. However, I've noticed that when I come back, those posts are gone. I can only get to them if I switch the radio button to Older Posts. The side effect of that is that it brings up all the old posts and there appears to be no method to mark them all as read in an effort to catch them up to where I am today.

This leads me to ask the question: Does the read/unread flag have any effect other than with synchronization? It seems like if I leave an item as unread then it should remain in the 'new posts' category until I've marked it as read or it is downloaded by a stand-alone aggregator. If it does only reflect whether an item has or has not been downloaded by an aggregator, the name of the flag should be changed to better reflect this.

I was also wondering if synchronization was maintained across locations with overlapping feeds. For example, if I have 'Home' (where I use an aggregator) and 'Work' (where I use the web interface) both with overlapping feeds and the aggregator downloads items, is that download reflected in the 'Work' location as well? This can be important if I want to read feeds remotely but have left my aggregator active at home.

Thanks.

How am I supposed to enjoy this with you crying?

A little bit of history here.

Prior to our launch of the free version of NewsGator Online, we didn't archive posts. When a post fell "out" of the RSS feed, it was deleted in our system, whether you'd read it or not.

Now, though, we archive these older posts. An off-shoot of that is the user visible fact that the post disappears from "Current Posts" and lands in "Older Posts" when this action happens.

As a sort of compensation, though, we have the My Clippings folder. I'd suggest that things you want to save for later would be best put into My Clippings, so you can look at it later. And just recently, we added folders to My Clippings, so you can even organize those clippings as needed.

We have noted that this "current posts/older posts" is probably less useful than just keeping track of what is read and what isn't read, and we're considering making some changes in this area.
