Agree!

I strongly object to NewsGator downgrading NNW, a product I paid for, to 'free' (sinking my investment) and then introducing image-based ads that cycle! A very annoying distraction.

I've relied on NNW up to now, EVERY DAY but no more.

Above all, I'm dismayed about your shabby treatment of customers.

Forget synching with Google Reader... I'm going there (via Fluid) and I think your other customers will as well. Their ads are less obtrusive and objectionable (and can be avoided if you can be bothered).

Newsgator proclaimed in Jan 09 how wonderful it is that all it's products are free. Now your forcing ads on us? Why because you can't afford to give things away? Who is running this business?

Thanks for syncing with google reader, I can pick another RSS client. I would have gladly paid for NNW but I guess annoying users is more important.

yep. nice FAIL. NNW devs just pissed of half of the internet. reaction of TUAW users is no better than our reaction here.

So judging by all of the replies, would NNW devs please tell me which "people have told you, that they’d be willing to pay to remove the ads"? I am yet to see one of those "people".

This is a terrible change.

I already purchased NetNewsWire and now I have to buy it again to remove the ads? Sorry but that is lame.

The ads are horrible! and no FTP syncing option because syncing options are "user-hostile"!? very weak... I'll be looking for another client...

I joined this forum specifically so I could add my comments in support. This is just totally unacceptable.

I paid for NetNewsWire before it became free. I feel betrayed and ripped off.

I don't want ads and I will not use NetNewsWire if there is no way to disable them.

Nice work NewsGator, you've turned me from a happy user to a totally pissed off and alienated user overnight.

Just stupid.

Ads are crap. I already paid for this version and I'm not paying again. Now I have to look at ads!? And, oh, the Beta version totally lost all my clippings that I've been saving for years. Total FAIL. Moving along.

Wow.  Deja Vu all over again.  Go check the FeedDemon beta forums(and the comments on Nick Bradbury's blog) around December of last year - when ads were introduced in the FD beta and all of these posts look awfully familiar.  I mean like word-for-word on some of these. And here's the REALLY funny thing - while yes, there are a few FD users that are still adamantly opposed to the ads (that are in the same location of the app) in FeedDemon and won't use the product past version 2.7, the vast majority of the people who complained in the first place are now using the FD beta/RC and have noted that they don't even notice the ads anymore.

You beat me to it, Critter

We've been through all of this six months ago with FD. Don't expect much response, or sympathy, from those of us who tried to be nice the first time since past experience demonstrates we just get flamed for it. Things are changing, deal with it or move on. Choice is yours, nothing you do or say in these forums will make the ads go away.

Please note that I am not actually employed by NewsGator, and my opinions should not be taken as their official stance on any matter. I'm just a happy FD user (since pre-1.0 alpha in 2003) helping out where I can.

critter42 and Spyder: so, basically what you are saying is that the devs don't give two shits even about their loyal PAID users, and wont even even respond, let alone fix this problem? This smells alot like another software company that made incredibly usable products, yet their total lack of support and non-existent development cycle pretty much drove away their entire user base. That company is named Unsanity. I was their customer at one point, but stopped using their products completely, due to above mentioned problems. I will have no problems dropping NNW. I will miss it, YES. But i will not support this kind of disregard of users. And this method of shoving ads in your face is a huge turn off for me.
