Hopefully Newsgator will make a concession for users who previously paid. Maybe it is just an oversight.
It isn't so much the cost, I use this app all day. But more just the principle of paying for something twice.
I am also a bit concerned about paying to remove the ads and then being expected to pay again when version 4 comes out so it would be great if they could clear that up as well.

So, why would anyone bother to "upgrade" from their currently ad-free version to a paid version?
"New Features" certainly won't get me to pull out my wallet. . . again.

| How much is the upgrade - think you can only see this from your Mac, and mine is at home. Can't find anything on the website.

In the UK it is something like £6.50 so I am guessing about $10
As far as why people would upgrade from before 3.2 it is a required upgrade to sync with google reader and the iPhone app

Think the upgrade question was more "why would I pay to turn ads off" rather than "why should I take 3.2". My answer (as a previous purchaser!) would be "because ads are annoying and it's only $10"

I paid $ 29 for your 3.0, after having paid and become free for all .... and now for a stupid 3.2 want more money
then you are dishonest if you do that
you give us a free license .... we have already paid
Newsgator Items Purchased:
Software Title: NetNewsWire 3.0 (w/ 1 Year subscription) 1 x $29.95
License Key: ---------------------------------
you give us a free license .... we have already paid

Another 3.0 purchaser here. Curious if we're going to get upgraded or not.

| I originally bought Feeddemon, and when I switched to Mac, Newsgator were good enough to let me swap that licence for a NNW licence. I've bought NNW iPhone Premium, and thought it was worth paying to get rid of the ads. I probably would likewise pay to get rid of ads in NNW. But it does seem that the lack of clarity from Newsgator is a problem. I would be happy with a cheaper upgrade, although the price is quite reasonble - but not if there's going to be a charge in a few months for NNW 4.

I paid for NNW 2.1 four years ago. Since then, I've gotten a bundle of upgrades free, a lot of nice new features for free, and excellent support *for free*.
Did I mention the *for free* part?
Should Newsgator have handled the transition better? Definitely. Could they be communicating better on this? Sure.
But arguing that we're being "betrayed" or some equally vile thing is just ridiculous. If you brought version 2, you've gotten a lot for your money. A $10 upgrade fee is extremely low for v.2 owners, and reasonably low for ver. 3 owners.
Get a grip, people.
