Ever since feeddemon was updated to 3.0 and uses google reader, it freezes and crashes constantly. Its always nagging me to mark everthing as read, nearly every day. It is completely unstable now. It almost locks up my entire system quite a lot, and I have a q6600 with 4 gigs of ram. Please can you make it perform as it did when newsgator online? I may have to search for an alternative rss reader. I love feeddemon, but the changes make it nearly unusable.

I don't mean to be mean, but it keeps locking up! and it worked before. Every time It goes into check feed for errors, it says Not responding. I multitask heavily, and it wont do it! It must have locked up 10 times today.

I too am extremely disappointed with the performance in version 3. I have about 350 feeds and Feeddemon is now well into hour 2 of updating. I have a 1.6 GHz/1.5 Gig system on a very high bandwidth line, there's no reason it should be this slow. It's almost as if you're trying to drive people away from this product. Netnewswire on the Mac, on the other hand, remains a decent product and there was little or no performance degradation with the switch to Google Reader for feeds. I have a old G4 Mac at home on a DSL line and it's orders of magnitude faster than Feeddemon.

Are there any plans to improve performance or is this it?

I just have to say that FeedDemon 3.0 is far from 'awful' for me... performance is perfectly acceptable.

To be more specific, the performance issues I speak of occur only during sync. Prior to v3, Feeddemon would be slow during sync, but it would at least respond. Now it is unresponsive to the point where its window will blank for minutes at a time. This was never the case prior to v3. Once the sync is complete performance is acceptable, though a little slower than before. I just set the sync interval high enough to prevent it from syncing again in a regular work day and I'm good to go.

But better sync performance would be nice.

Can I get a copy of your FeedDemon event log (File > Export Event Log)?  That may help me figure out what's going wrong here, because many people are reporting that FeedDemon 3.0 is significantly faster than previous versions.

Also, make sure that you're using the final release (build 3.0.0.41) rather than a pre-release build, since older pre-release builds were quite slow.

Thanks, Tom.  Am I correct in assuming that FeedDemon gets as far as synching your tags, and then crashes?  If so, then it sounds like you're experiencing the same bug reported here, which I'm still trying to figure out.  Roughly how many tags do you have?

Also, your event log shows you're getting far more than the average number of new unread items with each update (for example, you had a single update which received 2500 new items, and then you received 962 new items less than two hours later).  Are you really keeping up with this much information?

I only have a couple of tags, but I have seen the occasional crash with some of the earlier betas. The log contains a sync that I terminated early, that may be what looks like a crash. I have 342 feeds, but I hadn't run Feeddemon in a couple of days, that's probably why some of the feeds had so many unread.
