Hello, I just upgraded my OSX to enable using NNW 3.2. This procedure automatically synced me to my very old Google Reader, deleting 2.5 years of lovingly compiled NNW feeds.

I noticed that in the ~/library/application support/newsnetwire there is a backups folder — brilliant! However, it seems to be in 'plist', and Reader asks for an 'OPML' file to import feed subscriptions. I cannot figure out how to convert 'plist' to 'OPML' after 2 hours of googling and reading. The only online reference I have found I cannot make work (http://code.google.com/p/safarifeed2opml/). Would anyone have any ideas?

I was not a subscriber to NewsGator online, so I cannot look up any old OPML file.

Thanks in advance.

Fortunately, NetNewsWire automatically makes backups of your subscriptions, so you can restore your subscriptions from before this happened to you. Here's what to do:

1. If syncing is on, turn it off. Open Preferences, click on Syncing, then make sure the box next to “Sync with Google Reader” is not checked.

2. Quit NetNewsWire if it's running.

3. Go to ~/Library/Application Support/NetNewsWire/ and delete the Subscriptions.plist file

4. Open the Backups/ folder, and you will see a list of your subscription files with backup dates.

5. Copy a file (from before this happened to you) back into the NetNewsWire/ folder, and rename it to Subscriptions.plist.

6. Launch NetNewsWire and your subscriptions should be recovered.

To turn syncing back on...

Go to Google Reader in your browser and delete any feeds from there you don't want. If you want to make it easy and just delete everything, that's cool.

Then, in NetNewsWire, go back to your syncing preferences. Check the box next to “Sync with Google Reader” and then click Merge Subscriptions. That will send your NetNewsWire subscriptions up to Google Reader.

Also: please switch to the Google Group -- we'll be closing the NetNewsWire/Mac forum in favor of the Google Group here:
