| Ok, I could be a complete moron. But cannot, for the life of me, figure this out, and a search of this forum didn't turn up anything on point. When I start FeedDemon 3.0, it checks the feeds and then displays the number of unread items per feed (duh). But for each feed, the MAX number of unread items it will show is twenty (20). Huh? I can check the blog manually, and I see items that extend beyond the 20 that FeedDemon displays Went into options, and couldn't find anything that adjusts this (items displayed per page is 40, prefetch items are 1000). Went into Feed Properties for each feed, and there weren't any options in there that would affect this either. I'm sure there is an easy solution, and I'm just being slow/moronic, but it's now officially driving me nuts. Any help would be appreciated! thx, --Dennis

| Hi Dennis, Any chance you've told FeedDemon to retain only the most recent 20 items in each feed? You can check by right-clicking a feed, selecting Feed Properties, then switching to the Updating tab and seeing what the Archiving value is. Best,

| Thanks, Nick. Alas, that's not the problem. I click on Feed Properties, Updating, and "Keep the most recent: 400 items". But it only shows 20. Grrrr.... Another suggestion? Anyone? Thanks, --Dennis

| I'm afraid I'm at a loss to explain why you're seeing this. Can you post a screenshot of FeedDemon? That may help me figure out what's happening. Best,

| Totally stumped. Let some feeds accumulate over the weekend. Now, a few have self-capped at TWENTY (20), while a few now have THIRTY (30). Though all of them have more than 20/30. Grrr! I've attached a screen shot that shows the Feed Properties, Archiving = 400 screen. Dunno if this will help or not, but any guidance would be vastly appreciated!

OK, I just noticed that those are all in the root "Subscriptions" folder - what are the "Updating" and "Advanced" properties for that folder? Changes made here will cascade down (although the feed properties should override whatever's there, but I would check it).
Just out of curiousity - what happens if you create folders and add them into the folders?
And Nick, call me obtuse, but what does having the FD icon on the Subscriptions folder instead of the blue RSS ( "synched w/Google") icon mean?

critter42 (10/27/2009) And Nick, call me obtuse, but what does having the FD icon on the Subscriptions folder instead of the blue RSS ( "synched w/Google") icon mean?It means that the root folder isn't synched with Google Reader.

| Nick, does syncing with Google reader have anything to do with this issue? FWIW, I just checked the properties of the Subscriptions folder, and under Updating then Archiving, the value was set to 100. Just set it to 999, and applied it to ALL subfolders. Don't know if it will help; just updated all, and the max count remained constant at 20 for some, and 30 for 1. This is driving me nuts. Either I'm the only one suffering, or there's gotta be something easy that I'm just overlooking! Thanks for all the help, guys.

| I don't think this is sync-related, simply because I have a lot of unsynched feeds and have never seen this. Is it possible that you're running the "Panic Button" or some other feature which marks items as read? Do these feeds have read items that you've missed?

try this, go to "View" (on the menu) and make sure "Show News Items" is on (or use F11 to toggle). then go to the drop-down menu on the toolbar that probably says "Unread or Starred" and select "Show All". that should show the headlines for all the available items (200 or whatever max archive number you selected). if you are online, you can just start reading what you want at this point....but if you are wanting to save it for offline, then highlight all the headlines in the "News Items (F11)" pane that you want to keep, right-click them and select "Mark as Unread"...don't forget to Prefetch if you want to read them offline.
p.s. you might want to turn the number of "Prefetch" items down, if i understand correctly, that will be the number of hyper-linked items in each story
