Hi there,

I don't know if I missed it or if there is a manual for FD (would love one, even though I know FD good), but I found nowhere an option to make the "Open in new window" a background operation (like "Open new browsers tabs in...") so I could continue to surf / read through my other FD news items?! I think this is a pretty basic & important feature! It could be that it works like that when I configure FD to open every item in the browser, but why then use FD? So I didn't try that.

Another thing I'm wondering, why aren't items marked as read when opened in a new tab or the external/standard browser? I can't work with feeds properly if I have to mark them read manually! Yet "auto-mark as read after x seconds / scrolling" is no option for me either - who uses such a strange feature? O.o I just want it to (auto-)mark what I actually clicked on - not more not less!

Thanks for you help in advance...

to open a new tab within FeedDemon in the back ground, click the interlocked squares icon at the end of each post title;

As far as opening something in an external browser and keeping the browser in the background, this is not a FeedDemon issue, especially with Firefox. Some people have had luck with TabMixPlus extension, and one the board members wrote a little utility to try to force the browser to the background, but this is something that is an issue with the external browsers and nothing Nick has control over.

"auto-mark as read after x seconds / scrolling" is no option for me either - who uses such a strange feature? O.o
A lot of people do, actually. Especially if they use Google Reader a lot. Now I haven't looked at those options you mention, but mark as read while scrolling was dropped from an early beta.

@critter42: I know about the tabs...so ok, then I might check my browser again. I remember it working fine in the old times. ^^

You commented on the stuff I don't want to use anyway, how about the issue I mentioned - that the items don't get marked?! That is not normal, is it? Did I configure sth. wrong or why was it dropped without even the option to let it work "the old way"?

*edit* Ok I did not actually try/use the icon behind the news title, at least that marks the item read! What I'm btw. also wondering about, even if I specifically select one single news item in a news feed I can't click on the FF icon "Open in external browser".
It does only work when the content is already opened in a FD tab!

I'll have to doublecheck - I was going off of memory since I'm not at home where FD is (can't install it at work)

one the board members wrote a little utility to try to force the browser to the background

Nitpicking: technically it tries to force FD to the foreground (keeping it "ontop" & focused) whenever it founds out that the user default browser is in the foreground.

I'm a bit surprised that only 1 user have downloaded my app. I know this from the download figures.

I know that Nick Bradbury tested the first version, it didn't work for him for some reason. He didn't answer back when I asked him couple of questions (due to the time needed for finalizing FD3.0?).

The 1 other user who had the "courage" to download and test it, was very happy with it. People complain about this but don't want to try a possible solution. Ok, like I said before in other thread, it's your loss folks.

I've been using my app daily.. it really has made a difference; it speeds up so much the reading process that otherwise without it, I would have succumbed and drastically lowered the feeds I read.

To the OP grunwald2.0: if you're interested, check the app from here.
