| I thought it might be a problem with embedded video, because those are the pages l view most frequently as web pages. But FD just crashed when I was viewing an embedded jpg! When it happens, IE8 is usually open in a separate window, doing its own thing. FD stops responding, and indeed the entire laptop looks up until I can kill FD. Log attached.

| Hi Andy, Based on the event log, I think it's just coincidence that the crash looks like it involves IE8. The event log shows that the crash happens when updating synched tags, which is a problem a couple of other people have reported. This will be fixed in the next build, which I hope to release soon. But if you're willing to try a pre-release build, you can check whether the fix works by downloading this test version: http://www.bradsoft.com/feeddemon/beta/~fd3beta.exe Just install that directly on top of your existing version. Best,

| But I don't use Tags. At least, I never have created or used any for myself. Could this be a problem for me even if I never use tags? And you're saying that it's merely coincidental that the only time FD locks up is when I'm viewing a webpage? I don't think it's ever locked up when I'm in RSS mode. And most of the time, I'm in RSS mode.

| Even if you don't use tags, FD still checks whether any exist in GReader that need to be synchronized with FD. And since synching occurs in a background thread, you could be doing anything - including viewing a web page - when synching is taking place. If you look at the event log you attached, you'll see that the last entry for many sessions is "Sync > checking for updated tags," which strongly suggests that the tag synching is where FD died. This is very similar to the event logs of others reporting crashes, and the crashes went away after they updated to the test build I mentioned earlier.

| I'm skeptical, because l spend 90-95% of my time in RSS mode, and yet FD doesn't lock up then. But I'll try the beta.

There's no difference between "RSS Mode" (I assume you mean viewing the newspaper) and browsing webpages

critter42 (11/9/2009) There's no difference between "RSS Mode" (I assume you mean viewing the newspaper) and browsing webpagesThat may be theoretically true, but that has not been my experience, speaking practically. In my experience, FD has locked up exclusively when I was viewing webpages. Perhaps because the newspaper pages are better suited for FD.
